    I love this bird. They are so cute and playful - with a charming laugh. Also, being a ground parrot from New Zealand (a cold climate with few predators) they are not very heat tolerate, love investigating, and are very trusting.

    What a great video, I picked up a pair of pied kakariki about one month ago and I now have them eating from my hand and playing on my shoulder or head, they really are fun birds to keep,
    Do you know the size of the leg ring for them?
    Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Please let me know how to tell the gender as I have one single green kakiriki with red head

    • @rbentrdr
      @rbentrdr 3 года назад

      It's the size of the beak. Get on Facebook and join a couple of kakariki groups. Submit a photo and ask. I wasn't sure of my girl until she laid two eggs at about 14-15 months old. You can also get a DNA test for $20 in my area. Let a professional breeder help you, though. Or a vet.

    When it says reward with treat my bird isn’t comfortable enough for me to get near her to give a treat . So does leaving her favourite seeds out in her bed sort of like that while she gets used to the new home since she’s under a yr old and only had her for about 3-4 weeks

      yes do that leave the seeds near the bird. Just wait for some days till it gets completely comfortable with the ambience and then go around

    Actually unless hand reared kaks are nearly impossible to tame unfortunately

      I'll second this I have one now that will come out fly around but shows no interest in human interaction at all!

      That’s not true at all, my kakariki wasn’t hand reared and I got him at 9 weeks old, he’s 13 weeks now and settled in beautifully , he comes on to your hand, on your head, takes treats. I let him fly around and he goes in and out of his cage when he wants, patience and understanding are key to winning over these little balls of feathered energy.

      @@mleoche potentially that’s because you got him at a young age… i wouldn’t be surprised if that wears off though as he gets older
