Amid the many equations of ideals a reflection of Beauty itself, this universe as one poem holds closest to its heart what I have heard here today, the Divine Instant intoned through the art of Music with Ivan as its soul's conduit. There is no separation between him and the source as there are no words beyond the Word itself a singular creation to adequately describe the miracle at work in him every time he sits down to play the piano. And make no mistake, it is a miracle we are witnessing here. Gone is this troubled world we have come to know, replaced now by 30 minutes of Heaven. Thank you Ivan, God bless you!

Sometime ago, I predicted that Ivan would be the one to bring Bach and Mozart to audiences of this century. He is able to plumb the depths of both these composers, musically and emotionally and has the unequalled technical facility to realise his mature and profound interpretation of their work. His exploitation of the modern concert grand piano and his incomparable 'touch' enables him to finesse his performances so as to capture the hearts and minds of enthusiastic young 21st century audiences, as well as those of us who thought we had heard everything that Bach and Mozart had to offer. He has proved us very wrong! The future is bright - thank you Ivan!
Completely agree with you. From his very young age, Ivan is able to feel Bach, he sings all the voices and make us discover the true orchestral nature and peaceful joy of these pieces. For me, he is the most promising pianist of these years.

Listening again but this time, to the Bach Prelude alone and any leanings I have held towards the vocation of a monastic life, my entire life over, is made evident to me all the more through Ivan's own connection with Bach and the cosmic message his music conveys. What transcends above all is the Truth of Who We Are not so much of human form however humane our actions, but the act of Spirit itself in the realisation of our purpose here on earth, wholly as holy nothing less than Divine, each deed refined through Faith. Ivan, again I thank you for the angelic gift to Music that you are and to this world. I am at peace here as much as when I am in a moment of prayer. God bless you!
I love your comments and reviews, Mr. Wilcher. But do you not agree that the 14 year old Aksinya Potemkina, also a student like Ivan at the Central Music school in Moscow, is not uncommonly gifted, playing extremely treacherous passages with the greatest of ease and understanding?
@@samuelsamson8210 I have not heard Aksinya Potemkina play. I will search her out, with pleasure. There are many "uncommonly" gifted musicians. I imagine it all depends upon what best speaks to your condition. Thank you for the recommendation. I will listen.
@@PhillipLWilcher I can't wait for your reaction to a performance by her. Sometimes when I close my eyes when listening to her (which I rarely do given her arresting appearance, I think I'm listening to Ivan as was the case during her performance of a portion of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier in the recent All-Russian competition captured at youtu.be&v=EkW1LCvA7x8, starting at 4:05:30 or thereabouts (at the end of the competition following another magnificent performance by Ivan, the winner).
@@samuelsamson8210 Samuel, the link you offered opened to a page about animation, so I listened to a different performance on which you commented, and replied to you there. Yes, she is quite extraordinary! And, she is so young! Heavens, the standard of playing these days, and not just from pianists but violinists also (Ivan's two brothers!) is mind-boggling stuff. I attribute such a vast leap ahead to technology, RUclips and the like, where students can actually see and study legendary musicians at work, so to ascertain how they did what they did. Decades ago, all we had to rely upon were recordings and broadcasts. We couldn't actually see the mind of the musician at work, in communication with the spirit of Music itself, then shaped by the hands to produce whatever effect was required by the composer. I agree with you about her facility, the ease of execution. I would suggest that she differs to Ivan in that the more robust aspects of her playing are grounded in intellect, to almost be defiant in nature, that nothing could ever faze her. This is a wonder in itself given her age. For me personally, the sound that Ivan produces seems to be of another world, angelic as if from Heaven itself. I do not think I have heard any performance of his, whatever piano he is playing, where his tone production is not elevated and so pure that the sound itself seems to be disembodied from the piano. It is not so much for me that his playing is electrifying, rather more illuminating. Where once because of pianists such as Lipatti, Cortot, Hoffman, Gilels and Cziffra, we had the Golden Age of the Piano, with Ivan, I have felt that we have arrived at what can only be the Age of Enlightenment for the Piano. Although some differences might appear subtle, they are certainly there. But I do not like to compare, not really, because we do not hear what others do in much the same way we rarely see ourselves as others do - if that makes sense. Ivan is my ideal pianist, the vibration of sound as Music lives in him a gift of Divine Love, of that I am sure. There was not one note of Ivan's performance of Chopin's A minor Mazurka (the first piece I ever heard him play) that he did not engrave upon my heart in gold as he played it, that it will be with me to the end. Russia! Honestly, where would the world of Art be without her, as well might one ask where would the world of ballet be without the music of Tchaikovsky, my first great love in Music as a child. Music is in such fine and capable hands with these young performers, yes? If only we could say the same of the political scene. Perhaps politicians the world over should study counterpoint, so to realise that theirs is not the only voice! Continued blessings, Samuel. Thank you for the exchange. @@PhillipLWilcher Apologies for my clumsy misdirection. And thank you for taking the time to write such a profound response to my query about your thoughts regarding Aksinya Potemkin's pianistry. Ivan, of course, remains in a very special place, playing at a rarified level characterized, as you have noted, by the very purest of sounds imaginable and which seem to emanate from an almost magical source rather than from a piano, beautiful, black and gleaming though it is. Watching carefully his face, arms, hands and fingers as he plays, I wonder from whence that magic springs. Like all genius, it remains, as it should, a mystery to far lesser mortals than he, like myself. Arthur Koestler endeavored to unravel the act of creation in his fine book of the same name and suggests that it occurs when rational thought is suspended, like dreaming while asleep, and therefore free of the conventional routines and practices of ordinary life. It does seem that Ivan is dreaming at the piano at times. This much is sure: Ivan especially and others too (so many at the Central Music School in Moscow) inhabit a very special and different world than the rest of us, who can only watch and listen at a referential distance as their music tugs at our hearts. Again, thank you for your wonderful insights and observations. I only hope we find ourselves sitting in choice seats at a beautiful concert hall one day to hear him live.

Да, возможно, там не всё еще получилось, как задумано, но КАКОВА интерпретация! Ну просто очень интересно!
Это. кстати, первое "почти публичное" (то есть без публики в зале!) исполнение Иваном этой сонаты - весной по известным причинам сорвались по крайней мере четыре сольных концерта, где она была заявлена в программе.
Хотелось бы полегче и поигривее, без страсти, Моцарт, он как дитя, гениальное, но дитя. Колотить не нужно. Простите, это мое субъективное и непрофессиональное мнение. Ивану удачи !
Ещё простота и ясность мысли нужны. Думаю, у Ивана не было времени поработать, он очень много исполняет новых произведений. Потрясающая память, конечно. Всего доброго!

Я, напротив, в данном случае вполне солидарен с мнением об игре Моцарта Иваном, высказанное уважаемым профессором Санкт-Петербургской консерватории А.М. Сандлером, далее цитата: "...ля-минорная соната Моцарта, полная драматизма и контрастов - сыграна очень свободно, с полным пониманием стиля и содержания".
И вот это там действительно есть!
