What I particularly like about this one is that the people in that cafe/bar are actually in to it, there's a lot of these where it seems like people just don't care when they really should, like the Bon Iver one where people are just walking away.
This guys whole point in making filming things is to find super unknown bands and film them. He does this lots of bands. I think it makes sense that he would have filmed this before they had an album.

the only explanation for me that people don't go absolutely crazy in the videos, after watching all these take-away shows, is that good music hasn't arrived in france yet (i jest, i jest)

But besides the point, they aren't amazing musicians, so if I WERE insulting their musical abilities I may be pretentious and a jerk, but not incorrect. But I did not insult their musical abilities, I simply assessed what is going on in the video. If I said something judgmental (like the chord progression is sub-par or the way he strums is elementary - I am NOT saying those things though) THEN I would be insulting
I love how resourceful CT is! First he is playing guitar, and then he is drumming on the back of a chair. Freakin' brilliant.
That fact that it's out of tune and the beat gets off a few times adds character. I thing that the Walcott performance, at least, is beautifully done.

To be fair, they didn't know what they were seeing or hearing. In 2008 VW was barely making waves in the US, let alone in France.
