Replayed the game recently and it's strongly implied by the text in his Edge Master mode that he succumbed to his injuries from the final battle. But I remember always thinking he had nunchucked himself to death as well due to the way the he keels over midway through his victory animation. Remember it used to make me laugh as a kid because it felt like such a ridiculous way to die.
