  • The 6809 trunking controller is up and running! I'm one short on VHF mobiles, so I can't have a voice channel yet, but the control channel and such is working perfectly. The APX6000 is able to affiliate, and gets as far as it can with acquiring a voice channel without the controller having actual radios on it. Effectively, this proves the controller works, and that this project is possible, I just gotta get more VHF radios, and some DB15 connectors. I'll also have to get another VHF type II radio since that APX is the only one I have at the moment, considering doing it in UHF as well since that frequency range is less packed here.

    Oh wow I immediately recognize the digital noise from analog scanning. I wondered what those were.

    This is such a cool system! How did you program the controller itself? Also, did you just find the pieces you needed and put together a the whole cabinet or was it as a whole lot?

      Got the whole unit (apart from the unused at the time "MATRIX" card) alongside it's modems as a lot, had the seller leave out the power supply and cabinet to make shipping costs reasonable. The channel assignments and system ID are burned into the U48 EPROM on the CSC board, but pretty much all the other configurations of the controller are done over the CSC's serial terminal interface. Whenever I get around to working on this again (time and motivation is hard...) I'll go over how to configure it and the rest of the setup in better detail.

      @@KJ7BZC totally get how hard it is to get motivated for this sort of stuff, I hope you can eventually get it all worked out! I’ve recently been playing around with a few MTS2000s on 33cm. My unrealistic goal is to setup some sort of small trunked radio system just for fun eventually.

    You shouldn't have a unsquelch light on at all until there is a radio keyed. I have the same system in my basement with 6 Quantars connected to it.

      Oh interesting, any idea if it being on all the time would be an IRB card issue or would it be a problem with how I'm interfacing a receiver to it?

      @CHS1997 8 месяцев назад

      @@KJ7BZC it probably needs to see a receiver. Do you know if your trunk system came from a 800MHz platform?

    • @KJ7BZC
      @KJ7BZC  8 месяцев назад

      @@CHS1997 Yeah it was originally an 800 system. Not entirely sure what other signal it would need from the receiver as there isn't any more data lines to connect. I did have this set up with GM300s and CDMs after this video, it didn't have any issues decoding inbound packets from radios and would pass call/page/emergency without any retries.

      Mainly just want to get a fully functioning system, where I can talk between radios and such, but ideally I’ll get the phone patch to work where you can make calls in and out.

      @@KJ7BZC will this be a public ham repeater or are you going to get an FCC business license for it? I don't believe you can do trunking with ham.

    • @KJ7BZC
      @KJ7BZC  Год назад

      Well I’m definitely not planning to run it 24/7 considering the sheer amperage it’s drawing from that power supply even when idle, it’s a really good space heater. I’ve been running it HAM in my tests so far, but it’s not really something that others can use because you would have to ID on multiple frequencies. When doing affiliation and data transmissions like paging the radios only TX to the control channel. But when you do a voice transmission, the radio has to send the request on the control channel, and then switch to the voice channel that the controller allocates for the request. You would have to somehow ID on the control channel and on the voice channel, which just isn’t possible when using the system normally. In my last setup with this unit which I didn’t make a video on, I had a MCU that was connected on the controller side, it would interrupt the control and voice channels periodically to send CW identification, and I would manually ID with voice on the reverse frequencies. Not really something that could easily be used by more than one person on HAM, I do have a few LTR trunking controllers that I plan to use in a HAM repeater though. With the way LTR trunking works it’s absolutely possible to use it with a single pair of frequencies.

      @@KJ7BZC Doesn't fucking matter you have been reported to the FCC and they are aware of this video as it was included in the email had sent to them you have no business putting anything trunked on the air that you are not licensed for including amateur radio frequencies that do not allow trucking whatsoever you damn well know that and because of it you will lose your license not joking either especially when they show up to confiscate your equipment there's enough proof for them to legally get a warrant and seize all your stuff‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
