yeah wrong calculating, if 25% of the sensor is used with 8k in reds then it's not 2k. 2k is 16x amount of pixel than 8k not 4x... really weird to have such a essential mistake as a selling point for 8k in a video by panavision...
I'm not sure if I follow your logic. Sensors with a Bayer pattern array have 50% Green, 25% Blue and 25% Red photosites. When filming with only red light, only the red photosites are being utilized. The DXL has a resolution of 8192 x 4320. 25% of that is 2048 x 1080. Which is 2k. Is this wrong?
