Bulgaria's former king Simeon II arrived in the capital Sofia on Saturday (25/4), ending a fifty-year exile. Thousands of Bulgarians with flags bearing the royal family's coat of arms turned out to welcome the 58-year old former monarch, who was accompanied by his wife Marguerite. He arrived from Madrid,
where he has been living in exile. The former king had been exiled as a nine-year-old by the communist regime after World War II.

expelled from his country as a child, then returns years later and becomes prime minister of the country that expelled him. What a giga chad move
Somewhat different than the case of Romania's King Michael, but similar in that Simeon (a child at the time) was also dethroned by an illegal Communist takeover. I still believe that this compromise solution should have been followed after the fall of Communism in Bulgaria. Simeon could have been declared Head of State without any actual political powers, merely a symbol of national unity (and probably would have refrained from that unwise venture into the mire of party politics). Subsequently, after his death or retirement, a proper referendum would be held on whether to officially reinstate a constitutonal monarchy. If by that time, the royal family has not been able to win over a majority of the population, and the choice of a republic stands, then so be it, the people have spoken.
Bulgarians dont want republic we want monarchy but communist and some politics in west europe who receive money from from them .....
No one really wants a real monarchy, people want the glitz and glam that a figurehead monarchy gives.
Communism and monarchy are contradictory terms. There is no such thing as a communist monarchy. A monarch represents nobility, and cannot represent the proletariat. But kudos to Simeon for returning and becoming a prime minister.
