I feel like the "you really got a hold on me" version during the get back session should be on this purple album. I just love that version even though they weren't putting much effort into it.
Must disagree. That was the most cringey part of the Let It Be movie. They're in the wrong key, so John doesn't know where to sing it. No one can remember the words, the chord changes or the correct tempo and as you say, they weren't putting much effort into it. It's probably the worst of all the cover material they did during the sessions. There's a quick shot of Billy Preston and the look on his face is like, "Wow this is shit."
Thank you so much, Matt, for pointing out what a lot of us diehard fab fans knew could have been done with the Let It Be box set. True- the fans often 'get it right', whereas the 'fab powers that be' miss the boat
I also was really hoping the Lennon sung version of I've Got a Feeling would be in the box set. He gives it a different feel with his unique voice. Almost sounds kinda sad yet happy
It would have been nice to have seen the Beatles stick it out for another 2 or 3 years. There was so much good stuff put out on Imagine, Plastic Ono Band, McCartney, Ram and ATMP. I'm convinced it (the breakup) was due mostly to Klein.
I agree that was the major issue, also although Yoko wasn't the total cause of The Beatles' breakup it was an issue and would have just become a bigger issue over time. Also I think they didn't take a long enough break after The White Album. Taking a proper breather to do solo projects and get Apple and business stuff sorted would have been a big help.
Just one more double album - Beatles '71. Opening song? It Don't Come Easy. They could have released four singles simultaneously - It Don't Come Easy, Imagine, My Sweet Lord, and Baby I'm Amazed (with a much better mix).
It seems like such a waste to not use anything from Twickenham for the boxset. They expect people to make such a ginormous investment in these boxsets when they don't put everything necessary on them. It's pretty much why I steered clear of this last one.
I feel like on this one and a bit on the White Album box they're punishing the fans for collecting bootlegs. The White Album box set should have had the take 20 version of Revolution and the Let it Be Box should have had stuff like the Castle of the King of The Birds jam.
They didn’t completely ignore Twickenham in the boxset. The rehearsals of I Me Mine, Gimme Some Truth and Concentrate On The Sound were all from Twickenham. But I agree they could’ve used more.
12:52 That song's actually called "Well Alright" (or "Well... All Right") and it's one of my favourites of Buddy Holly's. What's really interesting is this is in the same key (and similar arrangement) as Blind Faith's (the one-album-only supergroup between Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Steve Winwood) cover of the song that appeared later on in the year. I'm definitely thinking George had a little bit of a hand in that now.
Thanks! I wish I knew music theory to discuss things like Key Signatures, etc. But years ago I discovered that the verses of Strawberry Fields remind me of the chorus of Maybe I'm Amazed, especially the instrumental backing.
6:29 That's John! John plays notes or chords ... George bends the strings! You'll distinguish their styles by their technique approach (John tries to get the melody, George tries to get where he can play a solo).
Thanks alot for ruining my Let It Be box set! LOL I think someone at Apple she put you on the payroll as a consult. I must admit I was a little disappointed by my box set to begin with love your selections, hopefully we will get a soundtrack how to get back movie! Keep up the good work, this is one of my go-to Beatles Channel.
Great video, Matt, thank you. Your inclusion of Let It Down brought to mind the Wikipedia entry for Wah-Wah. Under the paragraph titled “January 1969 at Twickenham Film Studios” it describes the argument between Paul and George during “Two of Us,” but also John and George regarding John deriding several songs that George brought to the initial sessions, and of course, more issues with Paul’s overbearing behavior. Also mentioned are George’s issues with Ono speaking for John and her constant presence. It says that George was the lone Beatle who voiced objections to Ono’s presence. Ultimately, there was supposedly a severe argument between George and John during lunch on January 10 in which George berated John for contributing nothing positive to the sessions. At the end of the day, January 10, George quit the band. There is also mention of John and Yoko going to see George on Saturday morning, and then the band meeting at Ringo’s house on Sunday. Since you’ve listened to the Nagra tapes, and have the Sulpy and Schweighardt book, are you able to confirm any of this? If true, it does change the narrative from what we see in “Get Back” and certainly paints a clearer picture.
I am not aware of a visit to George by John and Yoko on Saturday and the Suply-Schweighardt book makes no mention of it. I don't see how that would change the narrative because it appears to be a move to make amends and get George back. I have great hope that the Mark Lewisohn Vol III will touch upon these issues in greater detail, but we'll have to wait for them!
@@popgoesthe60s52 ok, thanks. As for the narrative, I should’ve elaborated more, that I think it changes (or should say adds?) to the narrative a bit as to George’s reasons for quitting the band on January 10.
I missed that January 11 fact. Hmph! There's a site with the actual page from George's diary recording that on January 11, "“Got up - John and Yoko came and diverted me at Breakfast.” Since George had in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" rhymed and associated diverted with perverted and inverted, and considering he was still firmly out of the band, that's not a positive entry at all. Every time I think, gee, I know quite a bit about the Beatles, BOOM!, a fact pops up, even one that I should've paid attention to, that I just flat out missed. Well! No wonder Mark Lewisohn is taking a long long long (pun) time to release Vol.2. Here's the site: theymaybeparted.com/2021/04/20/jan-11-how-he-was-diverted/
John is doing the guitar noodiling on that version of Strawberry Fields with Paul playing and singing it on piano...its in the Get Back Doc.The acoustic version og BYE BYE LOVE with Joh and Paul harmonizing is breathtaking! Gives me chills. ThevBuddy Holly song is called WELL ALL RIGHT...It was covered by Blind Faith and even SANTANA at one point.
Although I enjoyed the Let It Be box set when it came out last October, there were some glaring omissions that should have been included on the official release. Your Get Back Sessions & Jams really fully complemented & would have given the box set a better representation of Get Back/Let It Be. The actual unreleased songs & compositions such as In the Palace of the King of the Birds", "Isn't It a Pity", I Lost My Little Girl", "Watching Rainbows" & "Suzy Parker" etc., should have been included. The medley you suggested would have been perfect. Your artwork is very creative & complementary to the set. It is tantalizing as your album that never was would have been wonderful and made the official release essential. Thank you for another great presentation!
Top notch Matt! I truly was into your fantasy double album! I loved your picks, especially I Lost My Little Girl; which is one of my absolute favorites from the sessions! Beautifully done cover too sir!! Sadly, I think you are right...it will be a long time until we see more official Let It Be session stuff. Take care friend, Matt Street
The unfinished songs give your brain a musical workout because you spend the time imagining how it might have been put together. And, of course , there’s the transient brilliance that just goes with the Beatles recording anything, even for a laugh.
A missed opportunity by Apple. So much they could have done. Nice work, I like your selections, other than the horrid Maxwell's. Thankfully, we have the boots....
Wow...I had no idea they were already working on some of these tunes...Imagine? Really? You have done it again Matt...Blown my mind with your detailed research and analysis. Great job...
Thanks Matt, just brilliant to hear the boys just having some fun & throwing around ideas. This stuff is just pure GOLD, by the GREATEST BAND in history !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the book Get Back, The Unauthorized Chronicle . . ., which chronicles day by day in January, 1969 what the Beatles recorded and worked on for songs. Think that there is probably enough, if permission could be granted by Apple (and the recordings cleaned up), for at least two or three more Beatles albums, which could be put together.
You make so many valid points. It seems to be a bit of a missed opportunity. Here is my scenario for a May 15 1969 Get Back LP release. Using existing mixes at the time. My one caveat is imagining George Martin taking the same songs Phil Spector scored and scoring them himself over the months of March and April,1969. Side 1 (Using all studio versions) The Ballad of John And Yoko Old Brown Shoe Two Of Us Across The Universe* For You Blue The Long And Winding Road* You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) Side 2 Get Back** Don't Let Me Down** I've Got A Feeling** One After 909** Dig A Pony** I Me Mine* Let It Be* The single being the studio versions of Get Back and Don't Let Me Down (*Arranged/Scored by George Martin) (** Rooftop) I know I Me Mine wasn't finished till early 1970. I'm allowing myself a little creative license :-) Take care Matt, RNB
Hello Matt. Another home run in both concept and presentation. I like the fact that you are not overly concerned with audio quality. If the song, or snippet of a song has potential, it's fun to hear it. It's usually only non Beatles fans that complain about "scraping the bottom of the barrel" and other such slurs. We are at a time in history that all of these incompleted gems are precious reminders of the once in a lifetime synergy of four ordinary guys from an unusual place who shook the world. One other such compilation that may genuinely surprise fans is the terrific "at the beeb" vol. 3 that one of your fellow tubers has compiled. It's honestly worthy of an official release. Your efforts have the value added fun of the excellent cover art work that you provide. Very sharp indeed.
Much thanks, Charly. I have seen official releases happen from suggestions like this. Will Apple take notice? We'll see. I appreciate the warm comment.
Yeah what a crap release was the official Apple Sessions etc LP. Couldn't even give us colour photos. They just want to bash the same songs to death over and over.
Another great video. Very frustrating that the rooftop "performance" is only on streaming services (which I don't use) and you can't just buy it as an album. Huge mistake to leave it off the Let It Be box, but I'd buy a stand-alone album the minute it becomes available.
Another home run Matt! We need you to add ordering links to your version! Let It Be 50th was a let down. Not much effort, my opinion, was put into it. We'll never get to hear or see, most of it. You have a great talent Matt. Thanks for using it!
I loved that version of Paul doing Strawberry Fields from the movie. I’m surprised Paul never thought to do a John tribute album throughout his career.
The box set had five criminal omissions. 1. Rooftop concert. 2. Hard Rock version of "Two Of Us". 3. Hard Rock version of "Get Back". 4. Best band take of "All Things Must Pass" and 5. "Suzy's Parlour. I did like the alternate version of "One After 909" and the, "there will be no sorrow" take of Let It Be. Those were nice surprises. But, all in all, The Let It Be box set ended up being the only Beatles box set so far, that I'd consider sub-standard. The Pepper one was great. The Abbey Road one was good. The White Album one was incredible, and a home run. The Let It Be box would have also been great if they'd added nearly all of your suggestions to it. Yours is a good compilation!
While I like the part 1 end credits version of Palace of the King of Birds, the version played by Paul solo on piano at Twickenham is pure magic. That should have been in the box set.
The thing is the snippet of so-called "Imagine" was recorded at the beginning of the session when John was still absent, and it was Paul at the piano, playing that tune.
@@popgoesthe60s52 Definitely played by John. It was called 'John's Piano Piece' on Fly On The Waĺl included with Let It Be Naked. Matt here has stuck it on the beginning of 'Palace of the King of the Birds' from the session on 9 January. Doesn't mean it was from the same session.
Good points, I feel the same way. I was not that pleased with the Box Set. Too much was left out on the studio floor, especially when you have the waste of space with the EP that has only 4 songs. An "Oldies but Moldies Medley", like the one on Abbey Road, would have been nice. Thanks for the link to your podcast. Good job and good effort.
Agreed. The EP was a lousy idea considering the material not used. I thought maybe those 4 singles tracks could've been like bonus tracks on the original LP
Greetings Matt ✌ This Episode should be called:Box Sets that Never were, and in the case of the Let it Be Box set that I and Other Beatle fans waited for with great anticipation last year, it is for me very underwhelming and I consider it the most dissapointing of all The Beatle Box sets that have been released, I feel That Apple really dropped the ball Big time on this set and as you have shown Matt in this video with your fantastic selection of Get Back/Let it Be songs this could have been a real treasure trove and the Mother of All Box sets had Apple given us More unrealeased gems, especially That great version of All Things Must Pass.
This could have been release in separate pieces: The remix, roof top performance, Glyn Johns mixes in one set and all the alternate takes, rehearsals and unreleased songs in a second box. Apple seems to be trying to release a simplistic version that appeals to the most people in various configurations. They are not taking care of the rabid fan. On the other hand, we have box set of f*cking Wild Life and Wings At the Speed of Sound! Where's the justice?
Wonderful additions to the released material. Well done. I hope more is forthcoming. A big laugh, and love, of this was at the ending with "Why don't you put it on the toast". Years back, I was in a supermarket with a new friend who held up a tin of Heinz Beans and sang perfectly in a strong Korean accent "Why don't you put it on the toast". It was a heartwarming moment. Love her for it.
With the new technology Peter Jackson used with Get Back, the quality of the tracks you chose could have been greatly enhanced by Apple. Hoping they use it to do something with the Hamburg tapes at some point.
I’ve always been frustrated by the lack of music releases by Apple. The Beatles fans are the only fanbase who get treated with such disregard. There are two things that we can all agree upon. First none of us is getting younger and secondly the Beatles have attained a point where they belong to history. Like most other historical treasures their tapes should now be donated to a nation archive like the library of congress of a British equivalent. They can maintain and preserve these tapes for future generations rather than sitting in a dusty basement as the Let it Be reels were. Then these tapes are available to anyone who wishes to listen to them. However if Apple still has monetary desires then release them all online in either a monthly subscription model or an Apple model where you can purchase any take of any song you wish. I’m tired of the drip by drip releases by Apple and then which take to release decided by Giles Martin who can be described as a pseudo fan at best. With Ringo and Paul both in their 80’s it’s finally time to let the Beatles fans have it all. The Stones and Dylan have long emptied their vaults.
I am completely in the dark as to how the 4 Beatle estates will handle business going forward. The key word I guess is "business" since the Beatles assets are treated as if it is only product to be sold and not historical artifacts to be shared and revered.
Absolutely no! I'm for one grateful their intellectual property rights are being respected. The idea that their music should be treated as a "national treasure" is insane. That's just means nationalizing whatever that's popular.
Matt, went to see Paul McCartney last night (5/31) in Knoxville. There were a lot of young (I'm 63) Beatle fans there. My take was I'm glad I went, but It was an expensive endeavor and I wouldn't go again, perhaps I'm not the fan I thought I was. There were plenty there, and that was good to see. I went with my sister, and we had a good time together, we have the shared experience of playing The Beatles as we grew, so that was nice enough. Paul talked a bit from stage, as I guess is normal, he was speaking about Hendrix covering the Sargent Pepper album the first weekend it was released. I would attend a gathering like that again, Paul and Ringo talking and maybe going over the Get Back sessions and playing some music without hitting the high notes, just play and reminisce. But both Paul and Ringo appear to be healthy and can still perform, so why not hit the road with new material. The stadium was full and the fans were exuberant. I did feel something when he performed Blackbird, the effects were well done and he sang it well.
Great video, love the mock ups you make of the alternative albums. To my ears, that early 'galloping' version of Two of Us sounds reminiscent of the early take of Ob-La-Di on Anthology 3. I'm probably alone in that🙂
There is a an Apple iTunes exclusive (I think) demo of Isn't a Pity on the George Harrison compilation Let It Roll. I don't know if that's the same as what you played there.
It is true. I wish I had bought the 2-cd version. It is not worth it to buy the boxset. To be honest, with most boxsets I listen to the outtakes only once.
Great job Matt very good selection. I aways felt the original Let It Be album was poorly ordered. Side 1 should have opened with Let It Be and closed with Long Winding Road. Side 2 should have opened with Don’t Let Me Down and Dig a Pony.
The covers album idea is great. They covered stuff superbly right from the early albums. This was borne out when they reunited (minus John of course) for the Anthology in '94. The very brief Blue Moon of Kentucky was a great unplugged rendition.
Imagine if Apple were to employ Peter Jackson's software to get separation and do proper mixes of some of these tracks. They could put together a "Let It Be Rehearsals & Jams" standalone CD along the lines of Let It Be Naked. Two points and an "inspiration" credit to Matt.
PERFECT!..as usual..great imaginary album, great design, perfect compilation. and another one, as /I belive , I already write, /I adore Your, and Anthoniys /Glass onion/ shows...really BRAVO!! You two are my favorite Beatles podcasters/ experts..tnx again Ron from Ljubljana...excuse my English...much llove...oh! I'm reading Johns letter by Hunter Davis...love this booch, as John would said. ..🙃
Thanks for doing this video. So, when is the “Purple Album” going to be released? :) Like fans’ requests for more “Get Back” footage, have there been any fan-led efforts or petitions to ask for more audio releases? I understand the surviving Beatles/family members might be hard to convince, so I’m wondering if it’s worth contacting Apple Corps. But it seems to me they released the rooftop concert on streaming to appease some of us greedy fans. :)
Hi Matt, Thank you for another excellent episode. Just when I thought I had heard it all, you of course bring something new to the table. The two recordings here that I heard here for the first time that I wish they had completed & released are the slow version of Three Cool Cats (the faster version, which I’ve heard is charming, but the slow version would indeed have been…..cool.) George’s singing on Well, Alright sounds perfect! Kind of surprising how they only ever released one version of a Buddy Holly song in their lifetime, because “Words of Love” sounds excellent. But I digress, anyway, thanks again,Matt!
They do a Buddy Holly medley too the day before they go on the roof which is excellent starting with 'Mailman...' or was it 'Maybe Baby' and includes 'Peggie Sue Got Married', 'Crying Waiting Hoping' and they throw in their own 'Thinking Of Linking'. So many Beatle albums remain to be made. The Let It Be so-called super deluxe was pathetic.
Just seen this one as part of a catch-up of your previous episodes and would like to echo Matthew Street's comment. Top notch good sir! Incidentally there is (or at any rate there was - a good few years since I went there) a Beatles shop along Mathew Street in Liverpool, near the Cavern, selling all things Beatles. The original album had only hints of the good humour and goofing around (i.e., mainly when they break into Maggie Mae) and it came in a poor and uninspired album cover. You've rectified both situations - well done! Plus all that great "new" music. Paul completed Step Inside Love and gave it to their friend, our beloved and much-missed national treasure Cilla Black, for her TV show at that time. It suited her vocal talents down to the ground. Do give it a listen!
@@popgoesthe60s52 I was intrigued by that gentleman's name as well as agreeing with his comments. Re. Mathew Street in Liverpool: of course you can Google every location these days to see what it looks like. The current Beatles shop - why am I telling you this - is called The Gallery, on the corner with the main road. (Not to be outdone, the Stones have THEIR shop in Carnaby Street back in London.) Ciao!
Matt (or channel subscribers) can you shed any light on how much actual input Paul, Ringo, Yoko & Olivia had in track selection on the official box set? 🤔
I've heard absolutely nothing about this. I imagine Giles Martin may know but he is merely hired by them/Apple so he may be loathe to talk about who wanted what?
I know that we are talking about "what if questions", but some thoughts came to my mind watching your very good review. First, it's very good finally having notice of the rhythm version of "Two Of Us" (also called "On Our Way Back Home"). I'll always say that, for me, this version is too much better than the slow version. It's possible to feel the band's energy in this interpretation. Second, I suddenly thought that it could be happened in this time an album like a kind of "With The Beatles Volume 2", with very early compositions and versions of other composers (like the quoted Buddy Holly song and "Three Cool Cats", also recorded in the Decca auditions). Three, every time I have notice about those Get Back sessions, make it more clearly, in my opinion, how good were the Harrison's songs from that period, and how these compositions could be used in the Beatles' albuns. Finally, I think with myself that could be much better one of the Glyn Johns' mixes had became a Beatles album than that Phil Spector production. Spector's work wasn't bad, it's true, but we could feel listening much more a band in those early mixes. I know we can imagine a lot of things!
I like the oldies idea Matt. And also I think you mentioned in an earlier episode cobbling together a live album from their early years and the Hollywood Bowl. stuff. That's a bit of a goldmine. That version of Let it Be at 21:51 has a terrific McCartney vocal.
I’d listen to all four sides. Pretty good. If only they stayed together…we would have “ child of nature “ , “ back seat of my car “ “ imagine “ “ come and get it “ isn’t it a pity “ “ all things must pass “ & many more as Beatles songs …..
I have two bootlegs bought in Spring/Summer of 1969. I've always wanted to know the origins of both - I've believed that Paul had something to do with both, and the actual 'leak' to record-plants was done by either Mal or Alex. Or maybe one did one, the other did the second.
you really should learn the softaware called Izotope there is a function called Music Rebalance, that you can isolate parts of the songs (voice, drums, bass and rhythm) I think you would like to mess around with this quite a bit you could turn up the volume of the voice on Strawberry Fields Forever, for instance ;)
Great selection overall. I also think the Commonwealth jam would be a good thing to include. Fun little bit, but maybe a little too political for some. I hope someday to see a 'live album' release of the Rooftop Concert. I too wish there was a lot more of that on the album re-release.
They have recently released the Rooftop Concert in its entirety on streaming services (it seems the brief jam of I Want You wasn’t recorded, as it’s not there)
Strawberry Fields sounds fascinating - - I wonder if Apple, or Giles Martin, were self-conscious because so many Strawberry Fields feature on Pepper Superdeluxe. It should still be on LET IT BE, and if they'd gone with your extra choices, I'd have sprung for the box set. As it is, I don;t feel I'm missing much by dropping out of Apple's latest cash-in bonanza. The galloping Get Backesque version of Two Of Us is an interesting take in the evolution of the song, and the evolution of Beatle compositions has two worthwhile merits that make early versions worth including. Musicologists can't get enough of how one thought leads to another musically. And budding songwriters and new bands, instead of being intimidated by genius, get to see all the speculative false starts on the way to enhanced versions that didn't just spring out of the box ready-made. The Vonnegut estate felt the same way about publicising Kurt's early forays into his unique style and abandoned drafts of what became classics: it makes lowlier writers feel less like something the cat dragged in by comparison, because editing is part of composition, proof that mistakes are part of the process, even for a genius.
Great points, 4-D. The mistakes and collaboration that lead to the final output are as interesting as the final output! Not everyone agrees with that statement but musicologists eat this stuff up and rightly so.
Aye Matt I have a suggestion for a band review. Dr. Hook. Not sure if they were a rock band or country western. Lol. But I know they started in the late 60s and didn’t disband to 1985.
The Buddy Holly song you have listed as It's All Right, I've always known it by the name Well All Right. I knew it first from covers by Blind Faith and Santana than from the Buddy Holly original.
That's correct - and also it is a truly amazing song compared to all the other pop/rock happening at that period - Buddy Holly really was a ground breaker so no surprise how influential he was not only on The Beatles, but thousands of others who followed in the 60s and onwards.
Hi, Matt...glad you're doing one of these what if vids once again... are you familiar with George's song, Plug Me In..where he just jammed with Eric Clapton and another guy..which to me just made me wish he'd done this number with the Beatles instead. lemme give you my final track list of what if 14th Beatles album...see what you think: 1. Smile Away (Paul) 2. My Sweet Lord 3. It Don't Come Easy 4. Imagine 5. Maybe I'm Amazed 6. Gimme Some Truth 7. All Things Must Pass 8. Instant Karma! 9. The Back Seat of My Car 10. Let It Down 11. Love 12. Oh Woman, Oh Woman 13. Isolation 14. Art of Dying 15. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey 16. Plug Me In Was it possible to have a 16-track album back in 70-71..? If 14's the limit, then I'd take out Isolation and Art of Dying. by the way, really nice purple lp cover there.
As to why they failed to include the complete "All Things Must Pass," I suspect they didn't review everything as carefully as you did, Matt. They probably missed it.
I feel like the "you really got a hold on me" version during the get back session should be on this purple album. I just love that version even though they weren't putting much effort into it.
That is another great one. It would be easy to assemble another album, there is so much stuff.
Totally agree, SA Explorer. I would add the piano duet that Ringo and Paul put together.
There's a quick shot of Billy Preston and the look on his face is like, "Wow this is shit."

i was very underwhelmed with last years box set... with your tracklist and concept it would have been awesome; they should employ you at Apple ;-)

I appreciate the feedback, Drew - much thanks!
I also was really hoping the Lennon sung version of I've Got a Feeling would be in the box set. He gives it a different feel with his unique voice. Almost sounds kinda sad yet happy
Damn straight. "The fans get it right." I like the purple album. Nice selection.
Klein and Ono
I love that heavier, faster version of Get Back you picked , that I think should have been released.
John’s version of ‘I Lost My Little Girl’ makes me think he’s channeling me Lou Reed and The Velvets.
That groovy lounge thing they slipped into toward the end of side 3 reminds me of the Stones' "Waiting On a Lady."
6:33-- Right here is where Paul gets the idea for MAYBE I'M AMAZED...
Good point - now that you mention it, I hear it. So it was potentially inspired by Strawberry Fields... not bad.
Thanks! I wish I knew music theory to discuss things like Key Signatures, etc. But years ago I discovered that the verses of Strawberry Fields remind me of the chorus of Maybe I'm Amazed, especially the instrumental backing.
That so-called bit of 'Imagine' was released on the Fly On The Wall bonus disc (that came with Let It Be...Naked) as 'John's Piano Piece'.
6:29 That's John! John plays notes or chords ... George bends the strings! You'll distinguish their styles by their technique approach (John tries to get the melody, George tries to get where he can play a solo).
Putting my order in for the purple album ! Definitely wanting more than the anniversary music that they gave us.
Hey TOM - hopefully my version will be out one day and can be gently added to the Apple quickie version! I appreciate the warm comments.
Good choice for the more rockin’ version of Get Back! I was surprised none of those takes made the box as they’re high energy performances.
There's another high energy performance with John Lennon singing lead...cocks up the words of course: ruclips.net/video/DSS9Qa_IaYU/видео.html
@@hejla4524 Yeah, that’s a good early one. The lyrics were incomplete at that point so Lennon can be forgiven. Also has the “Pakistanis” third verse.
Hey Dennis - thank you for the warm comment!
Mr. Street! I'm always glad to hear from you. I'l have to learn some of that great new software to enhance these songs - then I'll release it myself!
Great video. The Rooftop concert is now streaming in great quality, but for those of us who love physical media would love it on CD and Vinyl.
I’ve just seen the Roof Top gig at the cinema. I crave a straight audio visual of the show without the cut ins from the people in the street.
Bravo Matt ! Thank you again for sharing this with us ! 👍🙂
The unfinished songs give your brain a musical workout because you spend the time imagining how it might have been put together. And, of course , there’s the transient brilliance that just goes with the Beatles recording anything, even for a laugh.
Thank you for including "Let It Down"; for me that song is right up there with "Something" in my list of favorite George Harrison songs.
That version of "Two of Us" suddenly sounds like it belongs on "Pipes of Peace"
A missed opportunity by Apple. So much they could have done. Nice work, I like your selections, other than the horrid Maxwell's. Thankfully, we have the boots....
Wow...I had no idea they were already working on some of these tunes...Imagine? Really? You have done it again Matt...Blown my mind with your detailed research and analysis. Great job...
Thanks Matt, just brilliant to hear the boys just having some fun & throwing around ideas. This stuff is just pure GOLD, by the GREATEST BAND in history !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Let It Down” made my jaw drop. So jazzy and you can hear almost a desperate stretch to the 70s in it. I’ve got to get it.
This is a great idea and could have worked. Spector only spent 6 days on the mixing so it could have been done.
@@popgoesthe60s52 Thanks Matt. I'm going to watch your Zombies episodes tonight. I'm looking forward to it very much. Cheers, RNB
this is pretty good, so many missed opportunities
@@jaroko1967 Thanks James. Cheers, RNB
Hello Matt. Another home run in both concept and presentation. I like the fact that you are not overly concerned with
audio quality. If the song, or snippet of a song has potential, it's fun to hear it. It's usually only non Beatles fans that complain
about "scraping the bottom of the barrel" and other such slurs. We are at a time in history that all of these incompleted gems
are precious reminders of the once in a lifetime synergy of four ordinary guys from an unusual place who shook the world.
Child of Nature sounds like it was used again for John's Jealous Guy.
Always a fun listen Matt. Keep up the great work.
Another great video. Very frustrating that the rooftop "performance" is only on streaming services (which I don't use) and you can't just buy it as an album. Huge mistake to leave it off the Let It Be box, but I'd buy a stand-alone album the minute it becomes available.
Yeah, they should really get fans opinion for these releases.
I had NO idea that John already came up with IMAGINE around this time of this session..!!
wow...it COULD'VE BEEN a Beatles tune!
Love this series 🔥
Another home run Matt! We need you to add ordering links to your version! Let It Be 50th was a let down. Not much effort, my opinion, was put into it. We'll never get to hear or see, most of it. You have a great talent Matt. Thanks for using it!
I appreciate the kind words, st.rose. I love to share this stuff with other fans.
I loved that version of Paul doing Strawberry Fields from the movie. I’m surprised Paul never thought to do a John tribute album throughout his career.
I just want a song track release of the Get Back documentary.
That is ANOTHER thing that would make total sense. I thought the same thing when watching it the first time through.
"It's All Right" by Buddy Holly is actually titled "Well... All Right." Blind Faith covered this on their only album, as "Well All Right".
Matt, your content is always a must watch!
Thank you, fish - much appreciated!
Ah - thank you. I was unsure of who was playing that. Much appreciated.
@@popgoesthe60s52 which is a strange thing, in fact. Considering it was Paul playing the melody John Lennon is known for.
Great job as usual Matt! Thank you for all your research and dedication to the greatest band ever!
Much appreciated!
Thank you Pat Cat!
Agreed. The EP was a lousy idea considering the material not used. I thought maybe those 4 singles tracks could've been like bonus tracks on the original LP
Geeez - I love your work ! Your new album creations are great ! Would love to have those ! : )
Another of your brilliant videos. Thank You!
I appreciate the compliment. Thanks for watching!
@@popgoesthe60s52 Yep, Exactly.
I had to use the toast parody somewhere!
@@popgoesthe60s52 Well done, you! Loved it. Warmed my heart with great memories.
If they could be unmixed and remixed (a la Peter Jackson's GET BACK audio crew) this would be VERY worthwhile!
Excellent video as usual. Great song selection.🍏🍏🍏🍏
With the new technology Peter Jackson used with Get Back, the quality of the tracks you chose could have been greatly enhanced by Apple. Hoping they use it to do something with the Hamburg tapes at some point.
I have to delve into some of that type of software to do the enhancements myself. I'm sure others are already working on them.
Great stuff Matt. Thank you. 👍
These are some great songs you got on here!! Wish they were included wow
Hold on - not yet - Paul's still only 79.
Absolutely no! I'm for one grateful their intellectual property rights are being respected. The idea that their music should be treated as a "national treasure" is insane. That's just means nationalizing whatever that's popular.
Phone Yoko and tell her
Matt, went to see Paul McCartney last night (5/31) in Knoxville.
I LOVE this version of Three Cool Cats! Such a great contrast to the one in Anthology 1.
If you listen to the piano at 7:08 you hear three chords of Lennon’s “Imagine.”
Great video, love the mock ups you make of the alternative albums. To my ears, that early 'galloping' version of Two of Us sounds reminiscent of the early take of Ob-La-Di on Anthology 3. I'm probably alone in that🙂
Thank you, Phil! Yes, Paul seemed to like those rousing intros.
Watching Rainbows is a cool jam. Lacks bass as George wasn't there but has some really cool guitar from Paul and improv lyrics from John.
I love Watching Rainbows too
There is a an Apple iTunes exclusive (I think) demo of Isn't a Pity on the George Harrison compilation Let It Roll. I don't know if that's the same as what you played there.
Today I learned there is a podcast!!! Yes!!!!
Thanks Matt, excellent episode Mate 👏
Yes, the album could do with some better sequencing with the addition of Don't Let Me Down.
FAR BETTER THAN THE OFFICAL BOX SET
WELL DONE!!!
Thank you Andres!
I will probably do some additional work on 'finishing' All Things Must Pass. THAT should have been the 'final Beatles song'!
I dig your double album, really solid choices but maybe I would have left off Maxwell. Never need to hear that one again. Rock on
As Buzza Wuzza dismisses a song, a sound comes from behind…. :-D

Great episode Matt. I sincerely prefer your selection to what they released. Maybe in the future they can consult you. :o)
They probably couldn't afford me :)
Excellent.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for another excellent episode.
My pleasure, David!
12:57 actually titled well all right. Covered by Blind Faith the same year.
Thanks for watching, Tony!
How about doing a video about The Cyrkle!
They are on my very long list!
Or maybe one did one, the other did the second.
you really should learn the softaware called Izotope
there is a function called Music Rebalance, that you can isolate parts of the songs (voice, drums, bass and rhythm)
I think you would like to mess around with this quite a bit
you could turn up the volume of the voice on Strawberry Fields Forever, for instance ;)
Excellent! I want to experiment with software to enhance these recordings. I appreciate the tip
@@popgoesthe60s52 Izotope is exactly for this. It can clean up clips, hummings, background noises, etc. Basically make bad audio sounds better.
Great selection overall. I also think the Commonwealth jam would be a good thing to include. Fun little bit, but maybe a little too political for some.
I hope someday to see a 'live album' release of the Rooftop Concert. I too wish there was a lot more of that on the album re-release.
Definitely Commonwealth -- always enjoyed that one !!
They have recently released the Rooftop Concert in its entirety on streaming services (it seems the brief jam of I Want You wasn’t recorded, as it’s not there)
Your choices were nice. I liked when they sang "You win Again". I liked the Afgani version of "Get back".
I prefer the Azerbaijani version
The Buddy Holly song you have listed as It's All Right,
I've always known it by the name Well All Right.
Thank you for that correction. Much appreciated.
Let's face it chums, greasepaint really is the life!
I have the rooftop concert on cd and DVDplus on cd as nature intended. What do you think about thease?.
I’d buy your version!
Fascinating!
Hi, Matt...glad you're doing one of these what if vids once again...

1. Smile Away (Paul)
2. My Sweet Lord
3. It Don't Come Easy
4. Imagine
5. Maybe I'm Amazed
6. Gimme Some Truth
7. All Things Must Pass
8. Instant Karma!
9. The Back Seat of My Car
10. Let It Down
11. Love
12. Oh Woman, Oh Woman
13. Isolation
14. Art of Dying
15. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
16. Plug Me In

If 14's the limit, then I'd take out Isolation and Art of Dying.
by the way, really nice purple lp cover there.

As to why they failed to include the complete "All Things Must Pass," I suspect they didn't review everything as carefully as you did, Matt. They probably missed it.
What about WATCHING RAINBOWS?
