  • Installing Server 2019 Hyper-V Core Step By Step.
I have always wanted to build a Hyper-V core server because you can use it on an unlimited basis for free. I currently run Hyper-V in my lab on top of Windows Server with desktop experience. That is limited to an evaluation period of 180 days. You can run slmgr -rearm up to 5 more times, extending the evaluation period up to three years. But why hassle with that? Let’s make a bootable USB stick to install Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V core server. We will configure a fixed IP address, enable remote desktop, and partition the drive to provide a separate data disk to store the virtual machines.

Once again, your tutorials are sensational, your knowledge of PowerShell is incredible. Yesterday I had installed a Microsoft Hyper-v 2019 Core on an HP DL 370 G7 Server for my POC. And your article helped me to connect and manage remotely, thank you very much.

Excellent. Always happy to read good news! I still need to make remote admin work on Win11! :( Best wishes.

I'm just curious what remote software you use on the video, it's seem good.

Thanks. It is Microsoft Remote Desktop from the Microsoft Store app. It let's you save a list of credentials separately from the list of machines so it is easier to assign credentials and switch them on the fly if needed.

I have done a little work here and there on the side. It really depends on the scope of work. I know a little about a lot of things and a lot about a few things. I am mostly proficient at AD, PKI, Entra ID (Azure AD) and other services around these. Email address in the About section here on the channel. Thanks.

Hi! Your videos are very helpfull, hope you get more viewers!
I have a question... what about the drivers? I mean, how to install the motherboard, chipset, video card and lan drivers in this hyper-v server instalation? its needed for better hardware work and stability, right?

Hello. Everything for my hardware is in the video. It is not so much about loading drivers in the O/S, as it is using compatible hardware for Hyper-V. The CPU and board must support virtualization. There are BIOS settings you need to consider. Video card drivers are not really relevant for a virtual host. You're not playing video games on this box. And the network cards you install need to be compatible.

@@ShotokuTech no, I'm saying what files are required for the default video card installed, like server desktop experience?

@@NossyDrelich Hyper-V Server does not have desktop experience. I just had to make sure the hardware was compatible. I did not have to install drivers. Everything is in the video.

What about injecting the Network driver?

Certainly that is worth it if you are spawning multiple servers. I'm still on this same server after almost two years. Time to make a Server 2022, Windows 11 video. Thanks.

    Hi!
I currently have a Server PC running with Windows server 2019 in my office. All the staffs use thinclients to remotely work on the server. Currently I don't have a failover solution to this and I thought installing Hyper-V core on 2 server PCs and running Windows server 2019 as a virtual machine on the main server PC. On the other server PC using Hyper-V replica I can create a failover VM of Windows server 2019.
I understood the concept of it but not very sure on how to implement it. Also from the networking aspect what will be the requirements.
It would be great if you could guide me with it.
    Regards,
    Ashish

Hello. This is a good question. I would have to look to see if my hardware will support virtual Hyper-V servers. It would be hard to talk about something I have not done myself. Thanks!

Oh sure! Yes. I have done it in my PKI lab videos to see auto enrollment of computer and user certificates. Best wishes!
