The Optomax 35mm f2.8 goes by various names, as was informed by a commentator below. If you find one in good condition, it might be unknown enough to snag at a bargain. I hope you enjoyed the photos! Thank you :)

This lens goes by many names. I have the FOCAL (kmart) version of it but there were many store brands of it (Bushnell is another name). Its from the early 80's. It flares like crazy and is kinda soft. Is it terrible? In my use its average. Its not bad its not good. Its worth $35 or under. Very cool to see a review of this lens.

Great info - thank you! I still have a lot to learn but I don’t think my copy was particularly soft. Maybe it’s because I’ve been dealing with a lot of super soft lenses, rendering me a bit insensitive to it.

@@NatalieRosellaBoonzaier its a decent lens. If you can afford it, find a Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AI-S lens. Not only is it one of the best vintage lenses under $200 but it also focuses at 20cm! I used to find 28mm lenses weird and preferred the 35mm as well but then at thrift stores I kept on finding 28mm for cheap when I finally took the plunge and bought the nikon 28mm f2.8 and its amazing. Worth it to buy, play with a bit and sell if you do not fall in love with it.

@@classic.cameras thank you! I will look out for that lens. I have a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 attached to my Nikon F2. I recently got an adapter so I will be exploring that lens soon in mean time. Hopefully as awesome as you describe the 28mm to be. I haven’t yet developed the film from the F2 :)

@@NatalieRosellaBoonzaiernikkor lenses are amazing but the 28mm f2.8 AIS (has to be AIS) is insane and even has an extra element. It was so good it was made up tp 2020!
