I really liked that the show didn't just remember that Ivy was a biologist, but that Harley was a Psychiatrist. She's given full on sessions with Bruce to help him with his issues. Maybe not a lot of them, but it's there. I wanted more of that from her character if nothing else. The animated Suicide Squad had a few quips referencing it and why she was a part of the team but mostly kept her as sexy side piece to either Joker or Deadshot. This was the start of new territory for her even if it should have been there from the beginning. At least if they get a new season it will be very clear from the get go if they are going to do anything new with her character or fall back on old stories.

I was with you up til the end. Your detailed descriptions of Harley's characterization flaws are actually the character flaws she has to overcome. Her arch for the entire series has been about her finding out who she is and what she wants to be, and they've woven in the various 'popular' aspects in a manner that is a bit more cohesive. She's still figuring things out for herself and we are on the ride with her.
I like that they expanded Harley's backstory, with her childhood, family, and gymnastics background. Establishing without a doubt that Joker didn't make Harley who she is, he saw who she was and brought it out.
I like the idea that Harley finds out that her true calling is through the support and service other people, like that’s how she finds her most actualized self is when realizes that she’s ok with being a support character even in her own story
I feel like I belong to a minority who really liked Birds of Prey. I do like the overly serious, wannabe edgy superhero movies from time to time, but in the movie Harley was an absolute delight and the movie was so fun! I was honestly confused why all of my mcu-loving friends waved it off as just being 'mid'. I hope superhero movies try different things and branch out, otherwise I feel like the superhero movie scene is just going to get dragged down by everything just being the same thing recycled over and over
I like that it was different. In a movie universe that made the Red and Blue Boy Scout edgy and depressed it was nice to have a fun movie with really cool characters and I hate how it was hit with the "mid" label by fanboys who hate women and just enjoy men being brooding badasses for 2 hours.
birds of prey was super fun, im with you!! my only "major" complaint is how huntress was written, but even that is a non-issue seeing as it's an adaptation and she's a different version of herself. hoping to see more superhero movies show genuine friendship and compassion in their group again.
@@juanitacanon3120 I saw a bunch of people hating on it because of the fact it seemed too man hating??? I was confused about that because the characters had very good reasons to hate the men in the movie. It's not like the movie went out of It's way to hate on men's existence.
I've been kind of isolated from the world of animation for a bit. I was in prison for 4 years, so the offerings were pretty slim. This channel is a MUST WATCH to get back into series that I missed. Every review has been really accurate, and I really appreciate you Lily.
Ya this show was pretty good from the start. I like Harley actually using her psychologist degree to help Bruce. This is the first series that actually presents her as a competent medical professional. Joker as a suburban step dad was a lot of fun.
Usually, I'm not the person who likes superheroes. I never got into DC or Marvel and only ever heard about their properties from memes. But this show was the first time I sat down to watch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters had such fun chemistry and bounced off each other very well. On reflection, I did realize Harley herself had very little goals which sucks big time. But honestly, I'm just really glad we got a soft gay love story out of a show that says fuck, like not even the "supposed to be kids shows" can handle that and instead push abuse into people's faces
I loved the first 2 seasons, thought season 3 was actually lacking in terms of story and comedy but was still overall a fun watch, season 4 has had good ideas but in execution a lot of it hasn’t landed… Harley is actually the best part of season 4 so far and even then her 2 major plot points so far have been pulled out of thin air 1. She’s sleepwalking and problems come from it 2. She’s seeing a second Harley, which everyone just assumed was part of the sleepwalking but it actually just stems from a joke and when it’s finally addressed it’s just used to reveal Harley’s sleepwalking hijinks to herself and them get rid of the 2nd Harley
Oh that self-realization you had at the end hit me hard I laughed, yes Mikaila’s inheritedly very cool and you’re very lucky to be married to such a lovely queen XD I’m glad you really enjoyed Poison Ivy and also Clayface as arguably those two are my favourites in the show for much the same reasons as you, and Stephanie just takes the cake for me as she’s just so much fun to watch. Also btw I did not know Sylvanas voiced Ivy in the The Batman show but in hindsight it makes sense as to why I found her voice sounded cool back when or maybe it was the baby gay crush i was having on red-heads at the time Ariel included
Harley Quinn is a result of giving villains plot armor, and the show is so much better for it. It's kind of cool seeing heroes lose from time to time as a result
To be fair, Harley becoming an unequivocal hero and teaming up with the Batfam IS a new step for the character. Basically, these three seasons have been Harley figuring herself out. Season 1, she was desperate for validation to herself that she was worth something on her own. Season 2 was about her figuring out her own feelings. And Season 3 was her figuring out what she herself actually wants to do. Her acting like Ivy's henchman was her clinging to the familiar role rather than acknowledging the fact that she's changed. But in Season 4, we'll be seeing a brand new Harley, which I'm excited for.
I’m so sorry you never get to catch a break. I’ve been a channel lurker for years. I appreciate you critically analyzing the media you and I both enjoy, and have brought me to analyze media myself more carefully. Thank you
I love what they did with Joker in this show , giving him a healthy relationship, a family and now he's the mayor of Gotham and is actually doing a great job at that also he's funny as hell

This is reason why I love Pattison Batman because he tries to be the edge lord all about vengeance but that fucking backfires cause he learns that he inspired the Riddler and his cult and indirectly cause deaths of hundreds he learns that he must be a symbol of hope cause that only way he can save Gotham
Yes, you’re Harley. That’s why you’re cool. Exploring aspects of who you are as an individual but being vulnerable enough to admit where you’re struggling is fucking admirable. There are some interpretations where Harls goes back to being a professional therapist because that was her passion. But because DC never commits to anything it’s hard to pin that down as definitive. But most books- most _interesting books_ are playing around with her antihero status as well. I think what you said about her desire to be a front runner but not really hacking is interesting tho, cuz there _isn’t_ anything wrong with that, but maybe that’s the conflict? Juxtaposition of her desire for independence but ultimately she measures herself against other people. That’s kinda what you’re forced to think, like you’re not accomplished or fulfilled unless you’re a standout in some grandiose way. Iunno, I’m spitballing…
@@tobsonasanya4765 Never saw this but, as far as I can recall the New 52 (which is no longer canon) is the only time where she murdered callously. In the show, I’d say it goes out of its way to show that she doesn’t like killing people _unless_ they wrong her first. I feel like that contextualization is vital. Because it informs her morals. Cuz normally I’d agree… but that’s me.
This series probably has one of the most violent and vile versions of the Joker outside of some comics. Some, mind you. It also weirdly gave the best reason why Batman shouldn't have killed him all these years. What even is this series?!
This show really saved me from an abusive friendship! I think season 4 is gonna be really interesting as (spoiler) by the end of season 3, she ends up working alongside the Bat-Family after Bruce/Batman is in jail
i think having harley dip back into being a psychologist would be interesting, but lord knows they wont let her do that unless its to serve another character
One thing is to write something new for spiderman Another is making him an private child soldier for iron man "Anyways" this show is fucking awesome I don't know why I took so long to watch it
I wanna see season 4 where she works with Joker in his villain rehabilitation program and at the same time is giving Batman and other heroes therapy, and also soft dates with Ivy naturally
The last time a lot of these main DC characters were interesting to me was in Justice League Unlimited, because that was the last one where it felt like the characters were allowed to smile for a while
lily talking about the poor state of batman media reminded me of one of my favorite episodes of the batman animated series. batman needs to find the joker after he escapes again. in an effort to do this batman follows and beats the shit out of one of jokers goons in front of his family. realizing that what batman is doing is wrong the first robin abandons batman to become Nightwing. my favorite part about this episode is that batman realizes he he was wrong and changes because of it. he ended up getting the guy he threatened a job at Wayne industries and presumably changes his approach to crime fighting, because as it turns out that goon was just some guy down on his luck and joker offered him money he desperately needed. the old animated series was full of moments where his worst qualities are actually treated as such and he spend more time just being a good person instead of a "Symbol of fear" or whatever. i miss the old animated series, i think that is when batman was at his best.
Oh ya there’s a ton in the dcau that lily kind of overlooked. Like the episode Harley’s day out where Harley actually tries to quit crime without the much needed therapy ( pretty typical of the US prison system) but is pushed by just bad circumstances to crime and Batman is incredibly helpful and sympathetic. Or the episode baby doll where at the end of facing down the villain has a psychotic breakdown do to her dysphoria and all he does after fighting the threat just hugs her as she is sobbing. So many examples of Batman actually being a compassionate human which gets overlooked in recent times
Ya know, I just realized I'd TOTALLY be the friend in a friend group who who gush about their favorite things like Dinosaurs and stuff! XD Speaking of Dinosaurs: *Did you know there's a Dinosaurs named Gigantspinosaurus, yet despite the name, it's a Stegosaurid...* *No I don't know why either! :D*
I think that in the future (I’m hoping a new season will come out for this show) they will start to introduce new ideas for Harley Quinn’s character and story. In the final episode, Harley realized that her job is to help villains and heros “get their shit” together. This realization is something I hope the creators explore! It would be wacky to see her handle villains and their issues, giving them some “tough love” to figure out their own morals and how to get their issues in line!
It's so cool hearing this show just praised, it's so slept on and it's like the funniest show I've seen! It reminds me of how I like setting up jokes with roleplaying/writing with my friends. Focusing on characterization.
I love ivy’s personality in this show and I’ve gotten so used to it that I find it kinda jarring when I see her original “femme fetal” personality in anything else.
I think what they could have done is maybe lean more into the psychiarist part of Harley like with the scene with bruce or when she is literally talking to herself, thou i have no idea how they would do that
I absolutely loved Birds of Prey. It was fun, it was campy, it was actually colorful. And while I love the Harley Quinn show, I have to agree that the main reason I don't check out Harley stuff (or Batman stuff) is because it's just the same stuff over and over again. I do love that the show takes the time to remember that Ivy and Harley have doctorates and actually let them show their skill in their respective fields. It's nice being told something about a female character and it being backed up instead of just vaguely referenced. Side note: That end with Lily gushing over Mikaila was cute.
I think the show shines the most when the do a 180 to the characters or go more indeep with them: -Clayface goes from simple goo monster to a charming actor. -Jocker becomes a good stepdad and his worst enemy is a Karen. -Ivy has more detail added to her. -The show acknowledge Batman needs help. -Cat women is a elegant mess. -Mr Freeze was a really good character and the show allows him to die, his wife comes back and we get to see more of her later.
The Matt Hagen and Basil Karlo incarnations of Clayface are the best versions of Clayface since they're both actors who became Shapeshifting Supervillains.
One reason why I love this show is that they dig deeper into already established lore. Like Harley’s relationship with her father, Bruce’s trauma from his parents death.
@@danl5086 She literally gets a whole arc in season 3 about not wanting to be a villain anymore, how do you people miss that? S3 - She doesn't know what to do, realizes she doesn't really want to be a villain anymore, starts a new journey to be something else.

Until finally in season 3 she rejects being a villain and starts going down a new road of being something else.
excuse: 'it is more difficult, to do more with Harley: - a good story stands on it's own - everything obvious about her, (outfit, name) is obviously joker-based so anything beyond: - 'is a joker-sidekick/fangirl', - 'suffers for it' - or 'gets out of it (usually by finding a better alternative, usually the same alternative)' is significantly more work' response: 'yes, it is more work... do that work' (or alternatively, stop giving a shit about the history of comic-book characters that goes back forever)
I was watching this video for the second time and something that I didn't comment came back to my mind: I'm really hoping that the fourth season explores more of Harley's role as a hero/anti-hero. In the comics she's pretty much one of Batman's allies, but she never got a lot of comics or any sort of media exploring this characteristic and how she got to this point besides "Well, I'm not dating the Joker neither Ivy. I don't have any reason to hate Batman anymore. Guess I'm not a villain." Sure, she had some conversations about this, but still, this NEEDS mre devolopment. It falls on that state of knowing how the character got there but also sort of wanting more development about it. Now that in the series her relationships with Bruce and Barbara are well stabilished I think she might have a more interesting role as a memeber of the batfamily and as a protag in general. If we are lucky this might even make her alliance with Bats a more known and accepted fact by the fandom. I really crave more attention to Harley being ocasionally a part of the batfamily and more interaction with the rest of the cast besides Batman.
I think Harley might have a better arc in the fourth season. To be honest Harley's characterization never really bothered me in this show. I get what you're saying and it does make sense but even without a clear objective the writers were always able to fill this holes with other stuff (like Harley's obsession of proving herself better than the Joker, her love for Ivy and now her crisis in her relationship and with her role as villain), it isn't the best way to write a character, but the show does not give this vibe that "something's missing", atleast not for me.
Only you would be able to slip two excellent Marvel critiques into a video about a DC property! Honestly, after watching this, I would love to see a Spider-Man video from you (only if you wanted to, though). Great work as always!
Honestly dc fanboys moaning whenever people decide to do different things with the characters outside of what's already established is such a huge issue. As bad as Catwoman 2004 was, I LOVED that movie BECAUSE it was so different! It wasn't a stupid rehashed Catwoman and Batman love story for the 100th time but instead was a movie that gave Catwoman an interesting and unique origin story, gave her her own set of villains to defeat while staying as an anti-hero and even gave her cat superpowers for good measure. It was a breeze of fresh air next to all the other catwoman incarnations where she has no substance other than being Batman's girlfriend.
@@tobsonasanya4765 I didn't say that Catwoman 2004 was good, literally just mentioned that it was a bad movie. But that I personally loved it because *storywise* it was a breeze of fresh air compared to all the other catwoman stories we see where 90% of the time she's just Batman's girlfriend and that's it
@@tobsonasanya4765 there is more to catwoman than being Bruce's GF but most Batman media don't fucking show that. When it comes to catwoman we barely know shit about her backstory, her life before crime, what she does in her freetime when she's not robbing stores, how exactly she became catwoman. Only two movies explored that and that was Catwoman 2004 and the Tim Burton Batman movie.
Actually just came from another video because I'm procrastinating. But I can't emphasize enough, just how much Lily and Mikaila make me laugh. Y'all are so fun, and your video essays are wonderful and engaging.
"Best thing to come out of the batman franchise in a long time" ah cmon, we had.... oh shit the Brave and the Bold cartoon, DC rebirth and under the red hood were all over half a decade ago jesus christ.
I think Harley getting back into Psychotherapy is a cool new direction I feel like they could explore further in S4, with Harley being Bruce's therapist.
Definitely agree about the critique on DC's Grim/Dark. The stuff I've enjoyed have been on the more lighter/comedic side on the comic book characters getting hit with the reset button and retracing the worn-out path, I imagine it's likely due to writers and companies going with the safe bet. It's a harder sell to pitch a new idea or character than it is to watch Batman and Spiderman loses their respective family members for the umptenth time.
I feel like the reason Harley's public perception is either "Joker's girlfriend/victim" or "Ivy's girlfriend" is just because no one reads comic books anymore. The primary pieces of Harley media to really hit any sort of the popularity are BtAS and its associated works (wheres she's Joker's girlfriend/victim) this show and its comic (where she's Ivy's girlfriend) and the new live action movies (I'm not even gonna mention suicide squad, BoP was great though). Harley's modern solo comics are fantastic characterization for her outside of the influence of Joker or even Ivy most of the time, allowing her to really shine on her own. And the result of this is a more crystal clear view of Harley as an individual, which turns out to be that Harley really just wants to help people in any way she can. There are so many great Harley stories about her trying to do something simple to help people out while it spirals into more and more dangerous territory for her as the stakes raise. Harley is so often characterized through her relationships with other people because she loves surrounding herself with friends, she's always got at least 1 buddy with her at any given time. And while you can argue this is a weakness of the character, I really think its a strength. We learn so much about Harley in these comics through the relationships she forms and the interactions she has.
I think ppl tend to forget that harley isn't rly an old character. I mean this year is her 30th year of existence. characters like batman, spiderman and honestly even ivy have been around for much much longer. yeah 30 years is still a while but I understand her character not being as expanded yet. even if she hasn't developed more in her story than we've seen before, it's clear that they're going there. honestly aside from the live action adaptations, this show might even be the first introduction of harley to some people she's still that new. especially considering this show has a good portion of its audience not being very big comic book fans. Harley is my favourite comic book character and I do want them to do more with her but if we go beyond generalizing, this show does do a lot to expand her character like give her a backstory about her family life and incorporates her career as a psychiatrist in unique ways. hell they even changed her origin story quite a bit. and now she'll be working with the bat family which has been done in the comics a bit but not enough for people to know exactly how it plays out. I agree with this entire video but I think there's much more to harley and this show isn't the same without her. Like I said I do think they can do more and I have faith that they will. I mean despite most ppls opinions I rly like her new 52 run where she's a psychiatrist by day and vigilante with her own harley crew by night it was something fresh and exciting for the character. but I think it'll just take time for Harleys character to expand whether that is even necessary or not I do think we shld be patient :)
@@LilianOrchard I agree but I'm trying to see from an industry standpoint why they haven't I mean if it took them 50+ years for the other characters I'm not surprised they haven't with Harley. like I said I'm not saying I don't want harley to be expanded more but I also try to understand why she hasnt. there's also the fact that like she didn't originate from the comics she's from batman the animated series, a character who was supposed to be a side character to the joker for one episode that fans ended up loving so much they made her more of a central and independent character. everything about her has kinda been improvised and not planned out at all. but I totally agree I want more for her
Maybe that's what the show is trying to say about Harley. She wants to be the main lead, but ultimately can only ever be a side kick. She can try, and maybe even succeed. But does her current situation come from those around her, or her self. Or perhaps a combination
Personally I disagree with Harley not doing new things. Harley has a few aspects of her character that are being expanded upon and deepened in this show. Obviously the show seems to be aiming towards Harley becoming an antihero/hero. Something she has done before, although a bit different from other comic adaptations, especially with her relationship with Ivy. There is also a MUCH bigger focus on Harley's skills as a therapist. It's pretty clear she is leading a lot of characters, especially Batman, as their personal therapist of sorts. This to me is really good and interesting, since very commonly and annoyingly Harley being a therapist is either some passive skill she pulls out of her ass to use as a villain, or some last minute thing they tack on at the end of a Harley Quinn story. It usually isn't as fleshed out as it is in this show, especially in season 3. Obviously I cannot speak for the show writers, but I have a feeling Harley's role in the story will continue to be one as a support system for other characters, in which by helping them she will actually be helping herself. Which is honestly a kinda unique position for a character like Harley to be in.
The parts about MCU Spider-Man resonates with me so much because I've been saying these things and everyone on Spider-Man Twitter loves pretending MCU Peter is bad, and that his character is fundamentally broken (a criticism someone actually tried to make). He was my favourite hero in the MCU and then he got destroyed by dipshit fanboys and writers. I wish people would just let characters do new things.
The other thing they showed was that she at least tried to use her psychiatrist degree to actually try helping herself, poison ivy, and Bruce. But that's probably just three examples of doing something different.
Overall great review but it seems you glossed over Harley being part of the Bat Family which is a significantly less explored angle compared to the usual angles of her being Jokers gf and/or victim or Ivy's gf. I for one am mostly hyped for the next season based on where season 3 ended though I'm also a touch nervous because I found season 3 to be a bit of a step down compared to the previous 2 (not an unredeemable dumpster fire by any stretch but save for a few episodes I find it a bit of a slog to watch through compared to the first 2 seasons). I'm hoping that dip in quality is due to something something pandemic reasons and not due to the writers not knowing where to take the show Also I'm firmly in the camp that very much enjoyed BIrds of Prey. It's easily in my top few live action DC films and the phrase "idiot masses" comes to mind to explain why it got so much hate.
I think one of the reasons no one has done much with Harley is because she has a young history as a B:TAS original character. Heck, Calendar Man has more comic book history to work with than Harley. And her original medium only gave her the 3 story threads: Joker's girlfriend, Joker's abuse victim, Poison Ivy's friend/roommate. This show only really changed it by condensing the first 2 into the first season and switching up friend for girlfriend as a new addition. I guess they've just been too scared to add any new stories to her character.
There’s a lot of DC comics on WEBTOON, but my absolute favorite is Batman family adventures where all of Batman’s adopted kids and sidekicks all interact and it is the sweetest thing imaginable. There’s an episode Dick Grayson asks Batman for advice on how to comfort a kid who has lost her parents, an episode where Tim Drake gets a boyfriend, and lots of great slapstick episodes with prank wars and snowball fights between the kids

I hope superhero movies try different things and branch out, otherwise I feel like the superhero movie scene is just going to get dragged down by everything just being the same thing recycled over and over
I know right it feels sometimes like I am the only one who saw ans throughly enjoyed it!
I honestly loved it , don’t really get the hate .
I’m still shock that Karen was able to eat that entire dish, including the bones 🦴, in under a minute.
Ya this show was pretty good from the start. I like Harley actually using her psychologist degree to help Bruce. This is the first series that actually presents her as a competent medical professional.
Joker as a suburban step dad was a lot of fun.
You can’t imagine how long I’ve waited for you to cover this show.
Love how you references Shera 😭 it really didn't end well did it
@@tobsonasanya4765 bro
I loved the first 2 seasons, thought season 3 was actually lacking in terms of story and comedy but was still overall a fun watch, season 4 has had good ideas but in execution a lot of it hasn’t landed… Harley is actually the best part of season 4 so far and even then her 2 major plot points so far have been pulled out of thin air
1. She’s sleepwalking and problems come from it
2. She’s seeing a second Harley, which everyone just assumed was part of the sleepwalking but it actually just stems from a joke and when it’s finally addressed it’s just used to reveal Harley’s sleepwalking hijinks to herself and them get rid of the 2nd Harley
I never knew or learned about Clayface’s Stephanie persona and now I want more.
Oh that self-realization you had at the end hit me hard I laughed, yes Mikaila’s inheritedly very cool and you’re very lucky to be married to such a lovely queen XD
I’m glad you really enjoyed Poison Ivy and also Clayface as arguably those two are my favourites in the show for much the same reasons as you, and Stephanie just takes the cake for me as she’s just so much fun to watch.
Finished S4 and your prediction on Harley's character development was spot on, hope the writers go back to the drawing board for this one.
This review…. This is EVERYTHING I wanted in your videos. You gushing with joy. I can tell you enjoyed not only watching the show, but scripting, editing, you must have had a ball with this.
I genuinely hope we see more like this in the future. I already love your Craig of the Creek videos.
@@tobsonasanya4765 I'am so glad that Harley in this show is NOT voiced by Tara Strong, her Harley sounds a bit too childish for me.
@@tobsonasanya4765
Never saw this but, as far as I can recall the New 52 (which is no longer canon) is the only time where she murdered callously.
In the show, I’d say it goes out of its way to show that she doesn’t like killing people _unless_ they wrong her first.
I feel like that contextualization is vital. Because it informs her morals. Cuz normally I’d agree… but that’s me.
@@tobsonasanya4765 Hatley???????
This series probably has one of the most violent and vile versions of the Joker outside of some comics. Some, mind you. It also weirdly gave the best reason why Batman shouldn't have killed him all these years. What even is this series?!
This show really saved me from an abusive friendship! I think season 4 is gonna be really interesting as (spoiler) by the end of season 3, she ends up working alongside the Bat-Family after Bruce/Batman is in jail
I like that Harley gets to actually use the skills she picked being a therapist.
That's the one thing I was sad they didn't use.
Genderfluid/Gender-curious clayface? Genderfluid/Gender-curious clayface.
"Wait a minute... Am I Harley????"

i think having harley dip back into being a psychologist would be interesting, but lord knows they wont let her do that unless its to serve another character
One thing is to write something new for spiderman
Another is making him an private child soldier for iron man

The reason why I never cared for the Penguin is the fact he isn't an actual penguin
I wanna see season 4 where she works with Joker in his villain rehabilitation program and at the same time is giving Batman and other heroes therapy, and also soft dates with Ivy naturally

@@adriendowd476 I had very mixed feelings about that season
Lovely work as always Lily. I especially got a chuckle out of that last bit!
Ya know, I just realized I'd TOTALLY be the friend in a friend group who who gush about their favorite things like Dinosaurs and stuff! XD
Speaking of Dinosaurs:
*Did you know there's a Dinosaurs named Gigantspinosaurus, yet despite the name, it's a Stegosaurid...*
*No I don't know why either! :D*
King Shark looks like he'd give good hugs
I think that in the future (I’m hoping a new season will come out for this show) they will start to introduce new ideas for Harley Quinn’s character and story. In the final episode, Harley realized that her job is to help villains and heros “get their shit” together. This realization is something I hope the creators explore! It would be wacky to see her handle villains and their issues, giving them some “tough love” to figure out their own morals and how to get their issues in line!
“How did I do that?” I’m pretty sure there’s a market for people who have learned who they are and are unapologetic about it.
What I love about this series is that everyone's got something fun about them. Like no character is put to waste. That's skill if I've ever seen one!
"wait a minute, am I Harley?" GIRL I DFJSHKFJHSJFD
Your wife is a legend tho fr
I think what they could have done is maybe lean more into the psychiarist part of Harley like with the scene with bruce or when she is literally talking to herself, thou i have no idea how they would do that
"Wait a minute am I Harley -- *cut to end card" I GUFFAWED
Marvel has this same problem. They are even making Wanda a bad character, especially with her "backstory" and her motives
I think the show shines the most when the do a 180 to the characters or go more indeep with them:
-Clayface goes from simple goo monster to a charming actor.
I hope Harley's version of King Shark become the standard going forward. It won't but hey a guy can dream
Idk what it is about the “Sophia has asthmaaaa” line that kills me
I have a meter that has edgy parody to the right and funny kids show to the left, this show is sitting between robot chicken skit and venture bros.
Would love to see you revisit this after season 4 wraps up

Fucking nailed it. I'm there for Harley/Ivy; everything else is a wonderful bonus.
But I agree, Harley could use some character development.

S2 - She kills villains and wants chaos. Gets the chance to rule the world and succeed as a villain, but rejects that.
S3 - She doesn't know what to do, realizes she doesn't really want to be a villain anymore, starts a new journey to be something else.

Another Wonderful, thorough video as always. Especially at the end when you praised your wife, that was very sweet. ^_^
I was watching this video for the second time and something that I didn't comment came back to my mind:
I'm really hoping that the fourth season explores more of Harley's role as a hero/anti-hero.

Yes!!! Such an underrated show
I think Harley getting back into Psychotherapy is a cool new direction I feel like they could explore further in S4, with Harley being Bruce's therapist.
What Harley needs is her own personal evil plot goal that makes sense for her character.
Definitely agree about the critique on DC's Grim/Dark. The stuff I've enjoyed have been on the more lighter/comedic side
on the comic book characters getting hit with the reset button and retracing the worn-out path, I imagine it's likely due to writers and companies going with the safe bet. It's a harder sell to pitch a new idea or character than it is to watch Batman and Spiderman loses their respective family members for the umptenth time.
I really appreciate it when you rant about how awesome your wife is, it's adorable.
I don't know how to explain this to people who read comic books, but 30 years is more than enough time to move past a single idea.
@@LilianOrchard I agree but I'm trying to see from an industry standpoint why they haven't I mean if it took them 50+ years for the other characters I'm not surprised they haven't with Harley. like I said I'm not saying I don't want harley to be expanded more but I also try to understand why she hasnt. there's also the fact that like she didn't originate from the comics she's from batman the animated series, a character who was supposed to be a side character to the joker for one episode that fans ended up loving so much they made her more of a central and independent character. everything about her has kinda been improvised and not planned out at all. but I totally agree I want more for her
the ending brings me such joy
hearing good people gush about their happiness

Honestly knew the show had to be good after seeing tons of people crying about how "they ruined batman!"
Maybe that's what the show is trying to say about Harley. She wants to be the main lead, but ultimately can only ever be a side kick. She can try, and maybe even succeed. But does her current situation come from those around her, or her self. Or perhaps a combination
@@botluckproductions W take. Based and academia pilled

I wish I had more to say because I know you like long reads, but I just really liked this video. Thanks for sharing.
honestly i started watching the show cause i was bored and then like half an season in i started hoping for an ivy-harley relationship
I now have new appreciation for writers trying new things
I'm hoping that dip in quality is due to something something pandemic reasons and not due to the writers not knowing where to take the show
Also I'm firmly in the camp that very much enjoyed BIrds of Prey.
It now makes sense why you don't like Harley in the show cause she's a reminder of you Lily 😂. Love this video and will check out season 3 I kinda stopped at season 2 but imma get back on it.
Pretty good vid. Thanks
Good representations of Batman are really only the DCAU, Adam West Batman and Brave and the Bold Batman
