Helpful hint: go ahead and fill all your bottles with water and refrigerate, then when you want something fizzy, charge the COLD water. It really makes a difference, and you may find it helps enough to go down a setting on your bubbles. I always charge pre-chilled water, and I never need to use the “3” setting.
Great review Colton and Steve! I have a Soda Stream that I love. One of my favorite concoctions comes from Lindsey Murphy. Take a tall glass, put in a scoop of Perfect Keto Strawberry MCT oil powder, then add carbonated water and stir. Add a splash of heavy cream and some ice. Yummy Strawberry Cream Soda! ❤️🥰❤️
I have an oldschool Sodastream languishing in my closet, along with a couple of new cylinders (if they still work). I may have to drag it out... I haven't touched it since I've been Keto. Might be fun to see what I can come up with.
You did it again Steve. I got another kitchen gadget after watching you! I've been researching Soda Stream for several years now. This new one looks so much quicker and simpler. When I followed your link I saw that they had a starter one with a Soda Stream and a CO2 cartridge for 44% off making it $89.99. There are so many extracts available that I plan to use some of those to save on cost. I also plan to make my own out of berries, citrus and ginger. I have my own sodium, magnesium and potassium powder to make my own electrolytes. Now I'll be able to add flavoring and have my own electrolyte soda!. Thanks for sharing this and finally prompting me to get one!
For you Keto folks and/or diabetics, you can buy a wide range of extracts with no sugar (some have trace alcohols). You can then experiment with sweeteners such as Allulose (liquid) or Stevia to make "healthy" and maybe Keto Soda. You can just add a smaller dose of the extract to make flavored carbonated water. Of course you can extra reusable bottles if you need more volume. I noted Steve you used refrigerator (i.e. filtered) water. This is important as tap city water with chlorine can effect flavors.
I used the same (but non powered) Terra Soda stream. While the electric is cool the regular Terra is half the cost (at full price of the E version) and take maybe 5 seconds extra time to press the button yourself. So with the discount this might be a good idea but if the E is at full price I'd recommend the regular manual Terra. It's not much effort at all to save $100 or so.
Great video, Steve (and Colten). I have the Sodastream Art and love it. I drink plain seltzer and use 5 'pumps'. The Art doesn't require electricity and is beautifully designed. The manual says to use chilled water for best results and it's true. I keep 2 extra Sodastream bottles of plain water in the fridge as well as one already carbonated. Retails for $149.99, but I got it on sale at Kohl's for $109.00 minus my 30% coupon = a great deal!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I appreciate you and your wonderful family for helping with the set-up demo and the taste-testing. This was very helpful in that it shows us what goes into using a Soda Stream. Again, thank you so much! Have a great rest of your week! 😊💖🙏
I just got my soda stream as well and love it. To mix the flavor I gently tilt the bottle a couple times and it mixes quite well that way I don’t disrupt the carbonation
I had the sparkel soda maker for about 3 years, using 1 tbsp citric acid powder and baking soda, use to make soda with orange mio. It was awesome, the only thing I didn’t like about it was, one you have to plug it in and two it need to be cleaned every week or so. Now I got soda stream terra ( the one you don’t have to plug in) and love it. I use it every day.
This really makes me want to get one of these. See folks say that Coke Zero isn’t available, but when it is I might pull the trigger. Leaving the camera going after the sign off is the best 😂
I use the soda steam that uses the glass bottles but is a manual pump. I also modified it with a real CO2 canister with an adapter off of Amazon. I'm addicted to the diet tonic water.
Think of all the cans and bottles you're keeping out of the landfills. Thanks for using your platform to reintroduce this tool for us. Colton is DARLING.
I live in Alberta Canada and we have a recycling program. All our cans, plastic soda bottles, and glass alcohol bottles are crushed and chopped and broken down for reuse by manufacturers. I guess I just assumed most North American cities do recycling as well. But the cost of using the soda stream does pay for itself.
I bought my Sodastream back in 2015 and still use it constantly. Mine is older than the "old" screw-in style! I never use the syrups that are meant for it. My usual go-to flavorings are either no-sugar electrolyte powder or fruit flavor crystals from "True" - TrueGrapefruit is my fave. I also like using the fizzy water to make Jello - I find the slight acid in the sparkling water helps counteract the artificial sweetener flavor of sugar free Jello (and yes, I know about the maltodextrin).
I have had soda stream for the last 5 years since I became keto - love sparkling water. I modified my machine with parts from amazon to hook up to a 5lbs CO2 bottle from my local brewing store which costs 25 dollars to refill, I literally have never refilled the soda stream canister. I would definitely recommend the modification.
I have found that the pink CO2 cartridge only does about 20 liters on the lowest setting (instead of the 60 that they claim) The Two Krazy Ketos did a hack, recently, to make it actually cost effective for me using a cylander that equals 5.5x the pink cartridge.
What a hoot Steve. Kids keep us honest. Love the stats and the review, all useful. New Topic: I have an interview suggestion: Have you thought about Chris Cooking Nashville as an interview subject? He seems pretty creative and does his best to put together well thought out videos. It's an idea. Steve I believe the second line is for flavors but I regularly fill the bottle to the line. Several of our local Walmart and grocery stores carry the refill CO² I've been using my Soda Stream for about two years and I LOVE it.
Love little Colton!! What a great taste tester!❤ Thanks for sharing this product, sounds like a real cost saver. I love drinking the flavored unsweetened carbonated waters.
Thx for the review Steve. Very interesting to see Terry’s reaction to the Pepsi Zero. If they come out with Dr Pepper Zero concentrate, I may consider it. Colton is such a cutie. He looks just like Conner. 😊
I'm glad I watched this. I didn't know they made a pepsi zero for the sodastream so I ordered some from Amazon. Comes out much cheaper than buying 2 liter bottles from the store and added bonus that I don't have to lug them into the house.
You could hear that fizzing when you poured into the cup which helped confirm how fizzy it was. Trying to stop drinking soda in our household in general. I really like to drink spindrift and would like to recreate that. I have to imagine you have tried spindrift... but highly recommended. I am not sure what kind of insulin spike it makes but its only 5 calories and 1 or 2 sugars. Only has water and fruit juice no natural flavors with the after taste. I would like to see that video and the effects! Thanks again for the great video.
Not sure if you ever watch 2 crazy ketos but they just did a review on the soda streamer.Thwy had some additional information about it. I would recommend watching it. By the way your granson is the cutest.
I love grape too. Root beer and orange mixed together is my favorite. At our A&W back in the 70s it was called swamp water. Then my next favorite is cola.
LOL! What a cute kid. I've had a soda stream for a while. Don't like the idea of things in plastic getting heated in the sun or a truck and leaching plastic chemicals. *Don't personally care for the soda stream flavorings, but that's me.
Ditto! I use mine for my own creations. Try it with some organic powdered lime, lemon or other fruit or extracts & mix with favorite sweetner for your own Italian soda 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 sooo good.
@@mikeshay4866 Oh. I think you misunderstood. I meant I'd rather not buy water or seltzer in plastic bottles from the store that might've been heated etc. Yes, I use glass containers at home.
I got the Sodastream Art two months ago. I use 5 pumps every time, drink 1 bottle per day with Redmond ReLyte. The canister lasts me about 30 days. After adding the Redmond the cap must be placed on immediately or it will bubble out all over.
I don't know if you said this. You can always add more carbonation. We have the original and it's no big deal to push the button down to charge the bottle.
I get such a kick out of watching the two of you. Great review! To bad we can't take back all our plastic bottles for exchange. I remember as a kid, taking our glass pop bottles back to the store.
Great video! I've thought about this for a while, but finally pulled the trigger today. FYI, Sodastream has another bundle (one less CO2 cartridge) for $119.99. I gave them my email info and got an extra 10% off.
I think it was a couple of years ago I was looking into getting one. Figuring the cost of the diet pepsi or pepsi zero was still slightly more expensive then just getting bottles. Now I bet it is not the same. Soda prices (and just about everything) has gone way up. Might be time to look into it again :) If I could make my own Dr. Pepper flavor, then it would be a super win haha
Just FYI it only makes 60 bottles on the low 1 bubble setting. On 2 bubbles it makes 30 and on 3 bubbles it makes about 15 bottles from my experience. It’s a better deal to buy the 1 litre bubbly water for 99¢.
Thanks for this. I’ve wondered about how well this worked. Curious why the flavor is added? Could it be added prior to bubblizing? Great job, Colton! You’re becoming a pro!
Also, I don't know the instructions posted for the flavorings (I assume Steve is following the instructions) but you do lose a lot of the carbonation if you shake the bottle. If you want to give it an extra mix I would say one turn upside down and back should be enough. But I also think the carbonation itself will provide its own degree of mixing on its own.
So, I bought a special cable, and a 5lb CO2 cannister. This refills for $20. It lasts me 90 days. Whereas the little cannisters cost about $15 to refill, and last 30 days or less... The flavorings also contain Aspartame a lot of the time. But I have definitely recouped the cost. Although as a heavy user, I have broken 2 of them. The plastic button BREAKS after many hundreds of bottles. Luckily Etsy has 3D printed versions FTW.
I got the old version soda steam a couple years ago and it doesn't get used, I could never really get bubbles to form and stay and I got frustrated and gave up
I use the non-electric version of this one and make my LMNT cold flavors with it. I don’t shake it after I add flavors. I just put the flavoring in my glass and add the carbonated water. That mixes it just fine. Then I can just refill my bottle with water and stick it in the fridge to chill for the next use.
Need to buy the stuff to connect a 5 pound CO2 tank directly or to refill the Soda Stream tanks. I refill the Soda Stream tank. A lot of money up front for the connections and filled 5 pound CO2 tank, but I should come out ahead after I refill the Soda stream tank maybe 10 times. Don't know how the temp of the water coming out of the frig spout compares to water you put in the frig, but the colder the water the better it takes the CO2.
i've been using the Sodastream for a couple years now. Not dealing with the recycling is well worth it. One "upgrade" I made was switching their CO2 bottle with a much larger tank from the welding store. The larger tank costs around $18 to refill and holds like 4-6 times more CO2?
I know its been a year, So wondering do you still use it? i have the older ones and 1 thing I noticed was that the carbonation doesn't last long I mean its flat in 10 min or so is it still that way? i like that this unit does the work for you! so no guessing lol please let me know if it stays carbonated for more than a few min? Thanks great video and Cute Grand son!!
I wonder if the 60L they claim is only using the 1 bubble setting and using the 3 bubble could be 1/3 if that? Id be interested in how much you actually get from a cylinder.
We got one of the older models, it's the same style and uses the same canisters as the one you found, I got an adapter off Amazon that lets me use the 5lb CO2 canisters from a local brewing supply store - makes the economics ever better. The one downside is you now have a large CO2 canister that needs to hide somewhere.
I noticed that ShopRite started selling the little bottles of flavors for Soda Stream down by the pharmacy. I have never gotten a Soda Stream before but this looks so simple. I also saw the CO2 cartridges and everything you need for it. I noticed that it was pretty costly per small bottles of the flavors.
The cool thing is you can flavor the carbonated water with whatever you want. You could just use flavored stevia drops if you wanted, or a squeeze of lemon and some electrolyte drops.
I was looking at soda stream at Walmart one day... They don't do coke zero, for some reason, I guess you can buy a 2.5 gallon box of Coke Zero Syrup for like 100bucks, though that is bound to be messy... I'd have to transfer it to another container...
Now I buy Sodastream flavors, usually from Wallyworld but they have been very short on the diet flavors I use, so I ordered several four packs of the flavors directly from Sodastream. BUT I cannot drink carbonated beverages, and I use the well diluted flavors in my well water. So instead of 9 liters per bottle I get 9 gallons... there being no bitter carbonated water flavor to overcome, less is needed. So no more buying soda and waiting (and shaking) to get it to go flat. I use their flavors mainly because their concentrates are much more concentrated than that of other brands, a 10-20 parts water to one part concentrate rather than a 5-10 parts water to 2 parts concentrate (varying by vendor and flavor). I find the soda flavors much more satisfying than tea or lemon, unless the water is very cold. Usually I am drinking room temperature water, so the soda flavors win out.
I've had my soda stream for a couple of months now and I love it. If they get a Coke Zero option, that would be amazing. I found some of the reusable bottles at a local church thrift store too :)
Question and maybe you can't answer this, but it says each CO2 does 60 liter bottles. Does this mean 60 at the "1" setting or 60 at the "3" setting? I am not sure if each setting requires another pump of CO2 and that would mean that if you were using the "3" setting you would only get 20 CO2 fills. Does that make sense?
@@SeriousKeto Thank you. I saw on the Target site a disclaimer along the lines of my questioning. "A SodaStream cylinder makes up to 60L (126 bottles) of sparkling water* *16 oz/bottle depending on the level of carbonating and sparkling water maker"
I've had one since before Covid and it was a dream when there were alluminum shortages. When you get a chance could you test their grapefruit soda. The label says zero calories zero carbs but also says made with real juice. I have stopped drinking it and have 4 full bottles (it's soooo delicous and pairs amazing with tequila) because I'm afraid of going out of ketosis.
I’m afraid of a soda stream. I love pop. I quit drinking it probably 18 to 20 years ago. I do have Zevia once in a while, but I can drink the heck out of pop and I don’t want to
One time I tried putting wine in my soda stream to see what would happen. What a mess it made. It foamed like a volcano. I like the Monin brand of flavoring for making soda pop. When I make just plain sparkling water I store the fizzy water in my empty glass Kombucha bottles. They are fantastic for keeping in the fizz stored in the fridge. My grandkids are all Pepsi lovers, and when we have no Pepsi the Monin Cola is very close. They have very clean ingredients. Your grandson has an amazing ability to stay focused for his age. I'll have to see about that Pepsi brand of flavoring, never tried it.
I used to carbonate my water manually with adapters, a CO2 bottle and normal 2l water bottles. Had to shake it while pumping CO2 into it and be careful because those bottles could burst. It was fun to do though. Back then there was some issue with sodastream as a company. That's why I did not want to give them money. Now it's apparently owned by Pepsi. BUT shouldn't you put the flavor in first, then carbonate? The shaking after takes all the carbonation out just like shaking a Coke bottle. I like the idea of wanting bubbly water, getting some tap water and pushing a button. Nice.
Some are zero carbs because they use sucralose or aspartame. Other flavors have no sweetener of any time and basically make LaCroix type sparkling water.
You do realize the bubly flavors are not sweetened, right? It is meant to create sparkling waters, not soda. I was shocked that Colton liked it! That’s the reason I like them though - ability to choose your own sweeteners. You can drink them as is if you are looking for a sparkling water or sweeten with Stevia for more of a Zevia replacement.
@@SeriousKeto Ok. Sorry, didn’t mean to condescend. I thought people may assume all the soda stream flavors are sweetened as that was the case for a long time. Enjoy your new gadget!
Gotta get Colton’s t-shirt game going. Gandpa and kid-matching memes. The Mandalorian is a gimme, but I bet there are some loony toons, Animaniacs, or Roger Rabbit shirts that would be coordination worthy 😂

I don't shake anymore either.
Not sure I'd buy a Soda Stream, but diggin' the Regular Show t-shirt.
great review, thanks
Thanks Steve….and Colton! I may NEED one! 🤣🤣
Steve, I’m wondering if the unsweetened flavors from Gremberry Farms would work?
I'm pretty sure any flavor would work.
Perhaps the E-Terra is more efficient. I'm still on my first cartridge and we do 3-4 batches per week (mostly on the 3 bubble setting).
Steve, you nails look wonderful. ❤ Great video.
Thanks. I have a couple that have taken some damage this summer. I try to hide those from the camera.
We use it at least 4 times per week and haven’t had issues with carbonation.
I wonder if the 60L they claim is only using the 1 bubble setting and using the 3 bubble could be 1/3 if that? Id be interested in how much you actually get from a cylinder.
I guess time will tell.
Very cute and informative
Hey Steve, have you seen the videos about refilling the cartridges yourself using dry ice? I can't decide whether to try and do that or not.
Unfortunately, in Wisconsin, you can't buy dry ice in grocery stores or Walmarts - only places like welding supply shops.
@@SeriousKeto Oh, that stinks. I trust your judgement so was hoping you'd try it first. 🤣
The bottom line is for those of us using the smaller bottles; I don't know what kind of monster would fill to the top line.
I used to have 4 of those 5lb canisters back in my beer brewing and kegging days, but sold all of that when I went keto.
When you use the scan it takes me to Target but when I checked the price on Amazon it’s cheaper.
You can use either the RUclips affiliate link or the one in the description. Since prices can vary from day to day, I put both in there.
Just lemon and liquid electrolytes added to mine, in each cup. Don’t like the flavor liquids.
I bet that would be good.
@@SeriousKeto
Thanks. You and the kiddo make a great team!
Great info
Your grandson is adorable.
I was looking at soda stream at Walmart one day... They don't do coke zero, for some reason, I guess you can buy a 2.5 gallon box of Coke Zero Syrup for like 100bucks, though that is bound to be messy... I'd have to transfer it to another container...
I believe that PepsiCo now owns SodaStream, so that would explain it.
Nice find.
They don't indicate that in the manual. I guess I'll find out one of these days and put the results in the pinned first comment.
@@SeriousKeto Thank you. I saw on the Target site a disclaimer along the lines of my questioning. "A SodaStream cylinder makes up to 60L (126 bottles) of sparkling water*
*16 oz/bottle depending on the level of carbonating and sparkling water maker"
I've had one since before Covid and it was a dream when there were alluminum shortages. When you get a chance could you test their grapefruit soda. The label says zero calories zero carbs but also says made with real juice. I have stopped drinking it and have 4 full bottles (it's soooo delicous and pairs amazing with tequila) because I'm afraid of going out of ketosis.
I'll look into it. I have the grapefruit Bubbly flavor, is that what you're referring to?
I just bought one too. What a coincidence.
For Terries taste test you should have used a fresh bottle instead of a previously opened one.
I have one sitting in my storage space procrastinating how to use it Makes me feel silly now that I see how easy it is
i would love to see Zevia put out syrups for these -
Or SweetLeaf stevia drops.
Nice.
Per other viewers, adding flavor before carbonation equals soda explosion.
They make a mt. Dew syurp?
I believe it just was released recently.
@@SeriousKeto ok thanks that be great for my son
Sorry Steve! Colton steals the show again!
11:52 Colton chose.............. Wisely! 😄
I’d love to know the carb count of those.
Zero
@@SeriousKeto wow! That’s fantastic!
Some are zero carbs because they use sucralose or aspartame. Other flavors have no sweetener of any time and basically make LaCroix type sparkling water.
@@SeriousKeto I love that! Looks like one is going to have to make it to house. 😂
I think I would just make sparkling water and add my own lemon or lime or root beer liquid stevia! Thank u for sharing!!!
absolutely.
Yes, I am aware of that.
@@SeriousKeto Ok. Sorry, didn’t mean to condescend. I thought people may assume all the soda stream flavors are sweetened as that was the case for a long time. Enjoy your new gadget!
I didn't think you were condescending. 🙂
Colton is so cute he's gonna take over 😅😂
Love the thumbs up!😄
Gotta get Colton’s t-shirt game going. Gandpa and kid-matching memes. The Mandalorian is a gimme, but I bet there are some loony toons, Animaniacs, or Roger Rabbit shirts that would be coordination worthy 😂
We both had Super Mario shirts in one of our videos. 🙂
