@@btbuildthings a few thoughts for the next person that takes this on. I have a 2023 Advance trim which already has a kick sensor. you can pretty easily replace with the kick sensor BT adds and it will connect to the existing harness. also did not need to add the button for this trim. The toughest part of this install is getting the bumper piece installed. takes time and patience.
I bought the parts from a dealer (www.alldiscountparts.com/ ) out of Boulder CO. All part numbers are listed in the description. You can go here to download the installation instructions: acura.bernardiparts.com/Products/Acura-Trailer-Hitch-(MDX)__08L92-TYA-200.aspx
I opted to not install the ATF cooler since I will only use this on a trailer that won't exceed the 3,500 lbs limit with this setup. Adding the cooler bumps the towing capacity to 5,000 lbs.
Nice job. Curious as to why a switch for the HFA was needed on the back wall where the spare tire tools are. Why was it necessary and what does it do that the switches on the lift gate don't do? Also is it better to put the trim piece for the hitch on before or after mounting the actual hitch receiver?
Posting this question hoping someone can shed some insight... I have a 2023 MDX Advance Package w/ HFA already installed. If I wanted to add this OEM hitch setup, would I need to replace the HFA unit? Or would it be something that can be relocated? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :)
If I'm not mistaken, I think the mounting of the unit is different with the hitch. I think I read it in a forum but I'm sure you will find the answer there. Also check the install instructions here: acura.bernardiparts.com/Products/Acura-Trailer-Hitch-(MDX)__08L92-TYA-200.aspx
Great video. I was wondering why you installed the hands free sensor on your MDX, then I checked and the 2022 Type-S didn't include one, only the Advance and the Type-S Advance had it. What a gyp. I have a 2022 MDX Advance and I'll probably buy a Curt trailer kit from U-Haul and have them install it. It's about $750 for everything, including wiring and install. I'm just wondering about that HFS sensor though, not that I ever use it. I do like the way the OEM Acura hitch setup looks though, nice and flush with the body.
@@boombox789 The material is about $500 after tax, and they charge $220 to install everything, which isn't too bad. That includes the Curt hitch, the upgrade to a ZCI Zero Contact wiring kit, the ball and ball mount, and the 4-pin power outlet. I may pay the $40 upgrade for a Draw-Tite hitch since apparently that doesn't interfere with the HFS sensor. Considering I don't have the tools or any way to lift the back end of the MDX, I'd rather let them do it. Plus I don't like to get my nails dirty lol.
I definitely think they should have had this on even the "base" Type S including the 2nd row outlet plug but it's whatever at this point. Lol. The reason I went OEM over aftermarket was because of the clean installation.
Possibly the best h2 video i've ever seen. i think you just saved me a thousand bucks!
That's what I'm here for!

@jamesworks5598 Thanks for sharing your insight!
Good Stuff! Just did mine today. Wish there was a way to test the wiring without having a trailer attached
There probably is a way I just don't know how.
Where did you source the parts? The instructions manuals don't feel like something dealers would provide. Seems very nice

Great video. Your instructions were clear and concise. Easy. Looks like the hardest part may be putting on the new cover.
Thanks.
what about the atf cooler install?

Hey friend where can I get the sensor for hands-free access for my 2023 base Acura MDX I hope you can help me thanks
Awesome vid! Appreciate this so much! Thx!
You're welcome!

Thanks. The switch is to turn off and on the HFA feature. I would just install the trim piece after the hitch is in place.
Dope & clean install!
Thanks!

I think you just move the sensor out of the way, install the hitch, then reinstall. It’s covered on the mdxers forum. Search there. Good luck!

Wild the curt hitch itself only costs $260. Maybe 1 hour max to install.

It is crazy how much you can save with the Curt model but you do sacrifice the clean look.
Lol! 😆
Please send me where you bought all this, if possible, links.
Yes the parts list would be helpful please.
