    I would be interested to hear your thoughts on what are the best cold weather tires. Assuming you don't drive in snow, but it does go below freezing a bit. Are you better off with summer tires that are not the bleeding edge of performance, which crack in cold weather, or are you better off with ultra high performance all season tires? Moderate performance summer tires usually have stiffer sidewalls, but the compounds are not optimized for cool conditions, which hurts grip. Ultrahigh performance all season tires seem like an unloved step child to me. They often have soft sidewalls and compounds that are better in cool temps, but they are optimized more for durability than grip. I feel like a see a lot of tire tests and hype around the latest batch of maximum performance summer tires, but next to nothing on the tires I should be running in the winter.

      Hello! There is actually a ton of information out there on the operating temperature range by tire type that a lot of people don't look at. Regardless of snow, ice, wet, etc.. if the tire you're running isn't designed for use in the cold, your braking distances and grip will suffer. Your treadlife will too. Same goes for running winter/snow tires when it's above 50⁰ F, the tires will rip themselves to shreds. Most of the time, UHP all seasons are going to be your best bet for cold weather performance

    love wheels with deep PCD pockets. Enkei "RR" wheels are nice, but double the price of the Konigs and not as easily replaced. good luck at the event. What other weight management have you done on the car, like remove trunk carpet/floor, floor mats, misc trim pieces that serve no purpose other than looks? what pressures are you going to run in the RS4s? .:R 🏁

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  Год назад +1

      I drop tire pressure to 24-26ish before each track session!
      Haven't done weight reduction yet, the car is still my full time daily driver. At the track I do take out all of the trim in the trunk and the spare tire though.

    They look awesome! What is the hub bore on the Konigs? I see on their site its 73.1 but the WRX is a 56?

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  2 года назад +2

      Correct, the hub rings I used are made by Konig. 56.1 to 73.1

  • @blueridge8992
    @blueridge8992 2 года назад

    Dude I HIGHLY recommend switching to plastic hub rings. We’ve seen SO many WRXs and STIs at the track with the rings fused to the car (including those Konig aluminum rings) and it’s an absolute nightmare to get them off. Like, “worse than WRX turbo studs” “spend all weekend destroying your hubs and wheel bearings with torches and sledgehammers” nightmare.
    It may seem fine now during the summer but don’t be fooled. The fusing happens when the weather starts swinging from hot to cold to hot, which causes the rings and hubs to expand and contract at different rates. All it takes is one cold night to make the metal swell or shrink .01% too much and then they’re fused forever. No coating can prevent the tolerance from disappearing.
    The wheels are 99% secured to the car by the lugs anyway, so the strength of the hub ring material doesn’t matter. They only exist for centering the wheel while you install it. Plastic works just fine for that and will never fuse.

      That's what I thought too for a long time tbh, I ran plastic hub rings on the enkeis for 3 years and didn't have any issues. I just decided to try the konig brand ones this time on a whim. I did coat them with white lithium grease before putting them on the rotors, I'll have to see what they look like after a couple hot days at the track.

    • @WRXGarage

      8k is pretty standard on most street/performance coilovers. Silvers and fortune Auto run 8k front and rear. The coilovers I run are specifically for the track and they're 12k front 9k rear.

      It's good to have stronger endlinks, the oem ones are known to snap when you switch to a beefier swaybar because of how thin they are

    Hey bro random question? So you run different studs? Usually change my own tires but lasr time i brought it to shop they broke basically 4 of my studs. Could it be bc they just overtorqued or are subaru wheel studs that bad? Ive been just replacing with with oem dormins for now ive heard some ppl use antisieze ima iffy about that. Just wonderin ur input cuz i noticed you use an impact

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  Год назад +1

      Subaru studs are relatively weak and having a shop zip the lug nuts on with an air tool can absolutely break them.
      Personally, I've never had issues with them because I always hand thread the lug nuts back on, and only tighten them with a torque wrench. I only use the impact driver to snug the lug nuts to the wheel, lower the car off the jack/stands, then torque the lug nuts manually.

      Yep, clears the 4 pot brembos without any spacers. Not sure if they'd clear the newer 6 pots but it looks like they have plenty more room.
