"L'île abandonnée" and "Saules pleureurs" are just perfect for a rainy day in winter.

Marvellous pieces by Blumenfeld, probably his oeuvre more inclined to impressionistic influences.
I' m happy to see that even Blumenfeld himself is satisfied with this beautiful performance! ; ) thanks a lot!

I feel all wet. Such watery pieces. I wish he would have settled on a melody or a harmony instead of changing them constantly. In some ways hdd we out Debussyed Debussy.

One hand or the other has an idée fixe which is hypnotic yes but gets a bit tedious too. They can’t disguise a simple Etude style without much development, if any. Still the melodic elements are charmingly bittersweet with overall echoes of Chopin/Liszt. The third piece reminds me of Rachmaninov’s B minor prelude.

    1906..... lovely Lisztian pieces.
When you hear this and realize what Debussy and Ravel had composed already at the time, you realize the difference between Talent and Genius.... between inventiveness and Originality.

Funny. Always thought how both Debussy and Ravel sound fake. This is sincere and quite original. Rachmaninoff before Rach
