Glad you're mum is finally at peace and no longer suffering. I understand that this doesn't ease your loss of missing her presence but she will always be close as long as you remember the great times you experienced until you're together again. Take care Paul, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
It does help to make me feel better. The three weeks that she was in the hospital I prayed continuously for God not to take her from me yet. But that last night that we were there I prayed that God would just end her suffering. Right now I'm just numb. But in a week or two when this all settles in who knows where I'll be. I think you so much for your kind words and your thoughts. All of you who watch my channel I consider my friends and family. So hearing from you knowing you're out there supporting me is a great boost.
@@learnelectronics soon after covid I lost a cousin that was like a very close brother. He had been in agony for a few months and being someone who also suffers every hour of every day I understand the peace he finally felt. It was a year before we could gather to spread his ashes and say our goodbyes. I have a small metal vial with some of his ashes but I will never forget him and look forward to once again being reunited with him.

When You lose someone you love, the most needed thing is to be with your close friend and family. It helps alot. When you post a video 1 day after you lost your mom, it means you love your work and the small community you made here around you. We appreciate that.

My condolences, Paul. With all the care, love and support you provided for your mum over the years (and we were witness to only a fraction of that), there can be no self doubt, no self recrimination. Just the satisfaction of a job well done.
Oh I wish I felt that. But it was my job to keep her safe and I failed. I have no idea how she got Covid. She almost never left the house. When she did she was masked and we used hand sanitizer. Also she was in the first group to get vaccinated. I guess the 35 years of leukemia ruined her immune system to the point that even the monthly infusions of gamaglobulin weren't enough.
@@learnelectronics remember that masks, hand sanitizers and gammaglobs are all techniques for risk reduction and not risk removal. Risk removal would have entailed a level of self isolation which would have been unacceptably restrictive. You don’t need me to tell you that most of life’s activities involve a degree of risk and it is in finding the balance that defines us as human beings. So, objectively you have a lot to be proud of. What you are feeling is part of a bereavement reaction and pretty much everyone goes through the same process with only emphasis changing from person to person. In time, that sense of failure will morph into a positive acceptance. Distraction helps. To that end, how about helping me find the choking impedance of my 1:1 choke balun at 3.5, 7.15 and. 14.15 MHz?

So sorry to hear about your loss Paul. I know it’s never easy to lose somebody you truly love particularly a parent, but as somebody who has lost both parents I can tell you the best thing you can do is do things to make them proud and remember them every day. Good luck to you Paul and God bless.
First, my condolences to you, your mom's family, your mom's friends and your mom's loved ones in regards to your mom's passing on Sept.25th. I lost my twin brother who passed away on Feb. 11th this year. Because of Covid, we couldn't do his memorial service and burial until Aug. 1 this year. We are still waiting on the covid situation to improve to do a Celebration of Life for him.
Second, thanks for the review on the different types of ground. When I studied electronics, we were taught earth and chasis ground only.

Are you in the United States? If you are and your brother has covid on his death certificate you will qualify for up to $9,000 in funeral reimbursement from FEMA. I had never heard of this until yesterday when we made my mother's arrangements. So if you and your family don't know about this please look into it. Of course it doesn't bring anyone back, but it helps offset the loss a little bit
Unfortunately, no, my family is from and resides in Canada. My brother's death was not related to Covid-19, but to his heart giving out because of heart attacks. But, thanks for the info. I will pass it on to my wife who resides in Texas.
My sincere condolences. Glad you made this video, thank you for clearing up a question i had with our dataloggers. Basically analog ground was separated from power ground but when i put a multimeter on continuity across both terminals, i had continuity. You mentioned they are connected but "downstream" of the measuring circuit, from what i now understand.
The connection of the analog and digital grounds is generally the last step in the process. You have your analog circuitry all grounded together. Then you have your digital circuitry all grounded together. And eventually you can connect those two points together. That's the key. The connection of just the two points not all the separate analog and digital grounds. I know it doesn't seem like it makes sense but just by having one connection you eliminate the loops

I will be 41 in Dec and last year over the summer I found my 37 yr old brother, passed away. Soo sad and we do have to move on. I believe he is in a better place as well as your mother. She's all better now, no more pain. I wish you and your family and her friends the best in these hard times.

I’ve watched so many of the older members of my family pass away and only a few hours before my Mum’s time came she said I asked God to take me last night and he didn’t; will you ask for me…
All I could say was I’ll see what I can do.
A few hours later I got the call to go the hospital.
I got there minutes too late because I couldn’t find a way in to the Ward at 04:45.
She got her wish.
Her pain ended and mine started.
Even though a few years have passed since that day I still think I’ll call in at my Mum’s or I’ll get my Mum one of those.
Life does go on but it doesn’t get any easier…
It’s just that I get better at coping.
I’m seen as the old man now.
We just move up the ladder…

I was always buying my mom potato chips. She loved chips, so whenever I'd see something new I'd buy her a bag. Also I was at her house 3x a day to check on her and take care of anything she needed. It's going to be very hard not going there every day.
Even when you know it is coming it never seems to lessen the blow. You tell yourself the inevitable is approaching yet it does not help when the moment arrives. Least that's how it is for me. There's things that defy rationalization. Loss is certainly one of those things.

My mother has been gone 7 years and I still have days I forget she's in a better place and Diabetes is no longer a issue that took her life. Stay strong and do take time off if you need to, if you don't I understand that too...

Perfect written definition of ground. What confused me for a long time was many CB radios have electrical (battery negative) ground and and it is separate from chassis (antenna) ground. One day, the light bulb went off. Apparently, years ago (and possible still today), Tractors had positive chassis ground, not the negative chassis ground we are use to with automobiles and that would cause a big issue when the radio was powered up. Some of the newer CB radios now tie the negative terminal to the chassis.

Pretty sure Volkswagen beetles had a positive ground as well. At a friend in high school that had a beetle and she had to buy a special radio for it because you couldn't put a regular one in cuz of the ground. Thank you buddy

When we were building the audio distribution in the new church building, we soon had a ground problem. We had installed audio cables in all rooms to be able to send the sound flexibly from anywhere and to be able to fetch it from anywhere.
The mixer and the amplifiers are connected to the audio ground via a power supply ground. But in the group room we also have a small amplifier where the audio ground is also connected to the power ground.
So we had a nice ground lood. BRRRRRRRRR
We solved the problem with sound transformers and DI boxes.
So always only connect ground to earth at one point.

Love most of your videos. They are great to learn from. You also have fun experiments that don't always have to succeed on the first attempt. That's how it goes. However, the 7V difference of potential reference is probably complicated to understand for newbies. I recommend using a multiple point demonstration there. For example, AB and C have some potential difference. A and ground are 10V, where B to ground is 7V, and C to ground is 3V. This helps drive home the point that you can measure in a series circuit that voltage is additive to the equivalent supplied voltage. It also helps identify rails in circuits, which makes troubleshooting way easier.
Oh I agree with you 100%. It's very difficult to teach these concepts that would be taught over a period of days or even weeks in a classroom setting and distill them down to a 10 minute RUclips video.

Hi there I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your loss. I work in the UK as an engineer working in the security sector and our sistoms may have several P, S, U's and thay have a common "0v"DC as part of the reference of the internal data. But every now and again you come to power part of the system down to then find out that someone has commented the 12v as well which means that the P, S, U, 's are back feading each other and it is still running. They have also connected the ground from different supply's to the building which can have several volts different between them. Fead from different sub stations. So you can be chasing folts for ages

I made a stepper motor driver once and how the ground ran affected its function. Where one capacitor was I mean it was about this much difference > < I was looking at the circuit thinking nah that can't be why it isn't working. I cut that much wire out and made the capacitor that much closer and it fixed it. It was like a sixteenth of an inch. Was the most bizarre grounding problem I ever had. That circuit had two grounds in it, logic and load. Where that one decoupling capacitor was in relation to the logic ground as opposed to the load ground made it or broke it. In the end it was the same route just different distances. I'd tied the logic and load grounds together too closely. That decoupling cap had to be closer to the logical ground. Was just easier to wire how I'd done it initially. I didn't think it'd matter.

One of the jokers in the lab in which I once worked, kept a flower pot on his lab bench with a curly yellow green earth wire inserted into the pot soil, using a metal meat skewer to make the connection. When questioned by management about this contraption, he would always say that it was his bench earth, strangely they accepted this explanation.

In the US system the fault current does not go to the ground but to the incoming neutral (the grounded conductor) and then to the transformer so it trips the breaker. A ground rod alone does not make an installation safe. Countries where that method is used use total differential protection (RCD/GFCI) for the house.
