    If I only knew of this conference... I would have made it . The world is awakening to the teachings of Buddhist Dharma. "Investigate, research the truth of my teachings. Then only decide if you should accept it or not" A principal that we all humans should follow.

  • @danielahealy
    @danielahealy 11 лет назад +2

    I agree. I understand why they are using simultaneous interpretation for the sake of the conference. But I think during the video editing process it would be better to transcribe the interpreter's audio into subtitles and then have the Dalai Lama's audio turned up. It is more comfortable to listen to this way, like you are actually listening to him talk.

    One thing I would like to see more of is the discussion of emerging technologies that could aid in deepening contemplative practice. I see this as a powerful trend that will have immense implications for the future of the dharma, but it is rarely discussed in traditional forums.

    Nice..., next step, rebuild monasteries, outlands the Himalaya, scientists worldwide and others, that they have to stay (the possibility) in such retreat area for, to think over the bigest problems, nowadays in the world (climate, overpopulation, new economic systems, less is more-global trading, to prove necessary &c)...useful pragmatic solutions...to think...in long period (of time)...improving human practicality of thinking, solutions have to brave, quality not quantities (Swiss not China).

    I'm with you on that, I think this is a rampant problem in modern spirituality, we confuse spirituality with mysticism, most people seem to limit their spirituality to sensational events rather than living a good life day to day

    Buddhism is not a religion.. it is a way of life.. it teaches us the nature of existence... through four noble truth.. "Buddhism" is a word coined by people to make it easier for us to categorize as a religion.

    There was an interesting gap in clarity at the end, lunch came at a bad time! Is the activity in the brain during dreaming sleep caused by a subconscious alertness, or 'potential' to wake up if the senses are stimulated, which was H.H. 's suggestion. Or is the prevalent theory that sounds in the dream, or sights in the dream, cause the relevant neural areas to be stimulated as if they were real external events?

    What make our lives worth living is what nature provided and what evolution produced. The way I see it, going into mountains and getting away from everything to live there and do nothing, while living on the charity from others (sometimes, as I'm aware) and learning and building almost nothing, is selfish and hypocritical. That is why I say: it is only for a few to follow that teachings, and to teach others, but it is not the way for most of us. I'll bet on this right now

    Hi. You said reincarnation is not in accordance with science, however that is incorrect. Modern science has begun to realize the truth behind the teaching of reincarnation in many ways. One such example is the life work of Dr. Ian Stevenson, check it out. Materialist scientific dogma has long impeded objective truth-seeking research and even today many materialists continue to passionately reject research in this field out of personal motives. Just my two cents. Take care :)

    When I said "learning and building almost nothing" I meant "learning from past while ignoring most advancement in science and creating almost none of material things to give your share to the society". It is not the same as most organized religions, but it does have some similarities.

    Dark matter, if I understand it, is a theoretical proposition, that is based on the evidence of gravitation forces that seem to have no actual basis in matter in the observable universe. So, the question is, is this force exerted by something invisible, or something extra-dimensional? There is no question of whether gravity exists. If you want to test that one, try dropping an apple on your head.

    My biggest issue with the Dalai Lama is that the Buddha taught is to cross the street when any official is in your path. Now how can one that teaches Buddha be part of government officials and their meetings?

  • @utubetruthteller

    Actually it doesn't matter if you understand the science of mind. It will benefit only if you experience the science first hand during meditation. So every individual need to go through the meditation process to understand how mind works.

    No. I mentioned it for people to open their minds to the wider picture. The main point in buddhism is to free yourself from ignorance and desires, the main concepts that make us human. Sitting around and thinking about things is not what made us reach this stage of development, and desires, fears, and happiness is what make our lives worth living. It is not in accordance with living your life and reaching your goals. That's why I say it is against science, as it is against nature of humans.

    Actually that is correct, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it would I? It is not in accordance in science, whether it's about the concept of the soul, or the spirit going from one living creature to another, it is not scientifically proven.

    One thing that always bothered me is hijacked spirituality by religions. Why is that spirituality only can come from believing in something without evidence? That should not be spirituality, but mysticism. There is something mystic in believing in unknown but the understanding of philosophy in science brings one of the most spiritual experiences of them all. The discoveries and connections with the universe come from science and not some wishful thinking that we MUST be a big part of cosmos

    To follow Buddha is not the same as to follow the dali... when one thinks they are the reincarnation or incarnation of the Buddha and others follow shows that ignorance has taken us over. The Buddha clearly explains what happens when the Buddha is born and the dali is the opposite of the teaching and to me a conartist but a good one.
