Love the story. I'm glad you posted it. It's a shame that these stories are overlooked more and more because people can't get past the period of time and society they were written about and see the literary value. Just a couple of issues with the narration: first, he went to get forty-fours the caliber, not dot-4-4-s, second you kept referring to huts as buts, though I was hearing wrong but my wife pointed it out as well.
I know the racism came with the times but I find it confusing. Black huts for instance; are the dark and empty? Or black owned? Anyway minor gripe aside great reading of a great story. Thanks for a great hour and twenty two.

I read this story. One of Howard's good ones Too bad it couldnt be read by the Cybrarian or Matt Bates. Cant tell the difference between male and female voices here. GDM, i wish you would just stop. Cant listen to anymore.
