Guitarist/Songwriter/Samurai
Born in the Manitoba prefecture of Canada, samuraiguitarist, Steve-san Onotera, honed his discipline under the study of the country's most powerful musical sensei. Видеоклипы
Ok I get it it's pronounced Acorn!
samuraiguitarist 😂 I had to rewind the video to make sure I heard it right. Nice vid though!
samuraiguitarist that's not how you pronounce akron, It's fine but I'm from here and I hate when people call it that
Zeppelin were actually planes used to bomb England by Germany in world war 1
Vipul Agrawal
Nope. Zeppelins were dirigibles, which are a type of balloon. You may have been mislead by their description as "airships". This is not the same as a plane.
Yeah, i mean not exactly fighter planes, but twas a rigid airship, which were used as bombers and scouts by Germans.
"Name your band!"
"Blink"
"Sorry name taken"
"Blink-182"
"Okay"
Artist this is why I love the old blink 182
Wasn't it a rip off from the movie Turk-182 but that name was copyrighted. So they use Turk's nickname Blink. 182 was Turk/Blink's badge number as he was a fire fighter. It was one of their favourite movies. This is old news. Check out the movie if you haven't seen it.
Get called Blink anyways
On A Friday sounds like a hipster indie band that the emo girl in class listens
so... a fitting name for Radiohead? (I love Radiohead btw haha)
You could say that (and yes Radiohead are amazing)
On A Friday = OA/-∞F
Calm down this isn't tool or dream theater
Its a joke....
Is this the unofficial announcement for Samurai Guitarist and the Pizza Cats' summer tour?!?!
Does summer really happen in Canada?
fajar adi Pradana
I think it gets slightly warmer
Yes. Yes, it is.
Samuraiguitarist and Pizza cats Would something I listen too
sounds very hipster
""Oh yeah, Lynard Skynard, he's great" And we all die a little inside"
I'm like that when someone refers to Owl City as "They".
Keith Sizemore good one Keith! 👏🏻
@Keith Sizemore:...correct I suppose. but very pedantic...!
Referring to them as they isn’t wrong though? If it’s a single person you can still refer the them as them or they
@@cooldoodert2919 I know, but it just sounds odd, because "they" and "them" are typically used for plural. Most people who actually listen to Owl City that I've spoken to, just as I do, typically say "him" or "Adam"
A Voice Crying Out I get it, I think most people don’t know it’s a single guy though
"Gotta love a happy ending" and then they had a plane crash and a bunch of them died
Marcel Riemer
Sad but true.
☹
Pretty sure the old man was just saying Blackies 😂 and they just misheard it as Black Keys
Oh man!
*jazz music stops*
The Beatles thought Buddy Holly and The Crickets were really good. They also thought it would be a great band name for a British band, cricket being the animal and the sport. So they were the silver beetles for a while but then they were like "hey why not the Beatles cause we play beat music"
Though they supposedly had to change it because it was close to the fictional name of a gang, The Silver Beetles, in "The Lords of Flatbush".
Hmm, I thought they were called The Beatles because Lennon beat his wife.
@@mcernieschumacher1296 😐 still more successful than you’ll ever be
So basically the Black Keys were named after a guy who could only play in the key of C 😂
Omg lol
I need to start calling people D-flats, being the D-natural Minor supremacist that I am.
Corey Liddil or BLACKIES, could be a racist 🤔
I heard that on rainy days he would switch to A-minor..
Also A minor natural or G mixolydian
Samurai Pizza Cats reference?!!? You are officially my favorite person.
One thing I've learnt growing up as a massive fan of 60's/70's rock and a massive fan of The Who is that they have their fingers in everything. I mean Townshend inspired the riff for smoke on the water for god sake.
Cage The Elephant will always be my favourite band name story - according to lead singer Matt Shultz, the name came from an incident in 2006 where a mentally disturbed man approached the band after a show. He hugged Shultz and kept repeating the sentence "You have to cage the elephant" over and over.
I like how Rush came up with their band name like right before a gig when the announcer asked for a name haha
Great video as always Steve. I have always liked the stories behind the names for Daft Punk and Spandau Ballet.
Daft Punk used to be a trio called Darlin' consisting of Guy-Man and Thomas along with Laurent Brancowitz who is now known for playing guitar with Phoenix. Back then they were not doing the electronic music that they are known for but rock. Some music critic gave them a really negative review and described them as "a daft punky thrash".
Spandau Ballet went through a few name changes before settling on Spandau Ballet. The origin is that a friend of theirs saw the phrase "Spandau Ballet" written on a wall in a nightclub restroom in Berlin. What the phrase means (according to wikipedia): "The expression "Spandau Ballet" was slang used by Allied troops in the trenches in the First World War referring to the twitching of the corpses hanging on the barbed wire and repeatedly hit by Spandau machine gun fire from the German lines". This makes it seem like Spandau Ballet are maybe a metal or punk band but they are a new romantic pop group with a dose of R&B and soul.
my locker number is B182 so
Take that locker, get Blink-182 to sign it, and make a fortune
Wow. That is.. awesome.
where's the link ? ;-)
I found locker 666 at my school but the teacher got confused why I wanted it.
These are awesome. I already knew the origin of most of them but I speak for everyone when I say you should make more :)
I like to think 182 in blink -182 represented the 182nd day of the year. 365/2 = 182.5 but decimals arent appeals to look at or speak. Blink-182 as if saying you blink and half the year is gone.
This was my reference ruclips.net/video/sPJMUzMrFP0/видео.html
samuraiguitarist oh i dont doubt you info man. Thats just my fav theory. If thats how it happened thats how it happened. I just think the 182nd day thing would have been clever.
I personally love the Al Pacino one. I wish it was true, if only!
It's actually the number of beats tom could get off before nutting
Kyle Gibbs 😂😂
'Metallica' was the idea for the name of a heavy metal magazine that drummer Lars's friend was trying to start, but he ended up calling his magazine 'Metal Mania' instead. Nonetheless, Lars liked the sound of 'Metallica' and kept it for himself.
well I have a friend who refers to led zeppelin as a person
i used to refer to keane as a person ;-;
I'd recommend you stop talking to this person.
you mean “ had “
Are they just dumb or trying to be funny and failing?
When i was younger (like a couple of years ago, i was like 11 years old) i thought led zeppelin was a solo artist. Idk it kind of sounds like somebody's name.
sooo Blink-182's name is just because someone already had it and they just added random numbers to differentiate? like what we do on say games when our name is taken and we just add like numbers at the end lmao
Best RUclips channel out there. Helped me a lot with my guitar playing and inspired me to keep on playing after breaking my left wrist, that put me out of playing for 6 months and still troubles me when playing. Great job, sensei, and thank you for your wisdom!🙏
I watched a documentary on netflix about Pearl Jam, and if I remember correctly, the name came from a flier for a Pearl sponsored band/music event.
either that or the name for jizz lmao
Micah Young It actually came from Eddie Vedder grandmothers name being Pearl who would make jam for him when he was a kid. There's and interview of him taking about it.
Haha it's a euphemism for semen, they're all cover stories
It's actually supposedly from Jeff Ament, who came up with "pearl" and the jam part was supposedly a reference to Neil Young, whose jam sessions at live concerts would be 15 - 20 minutes long.
Imagine "Powderfinger" going on for 20 minutes!
"Look out, Mama, there's a white boat coming up the river..." *20 minutes later* "...Remember me to my love / I know I'll miss her"
It’s about jamming good like if you were to say golden jam but another expensive material which are pearls!
Where I'm from, we have this local band called Padlock Chain. When asked about how they went about choosing that name, they provide two different stories, one remarkably more interesting and absurd than the other. One version is that one time, they were playing a gig somewhere, and the stage wasn't exactly even, so to keep the guitarist's Marshall stack from falling over, they had to tie it down, but all they could find was a giant stack of padlocks, which they made a chain of and used that chain to secure the stack. After the show, they looked at the chain of padlocks, and decided that their name should be "Padlock Chain".
The other explanation is that they just opened the vocabulary on two completely random pages and picked out two random words.
This vid was amazing thankyou 😊
It might be time for a haircut...
samuraiguitarist getting a bit out of hand I think
samuraiguitarist don't you dare
Yes, if it's you from four weeks ago speaking.
Now it might be just too late.
YoutTube has plenty of guitar teachers that started with long hair and now have short hair, but never before has there been a Samurai Guitarist.
Is that a band name??
Yeah a part 2 would really be cool!
Loved the shamisen in the back! Would you make a video about it/playing it? That would be awesome!
Pink Anderson, Floyd Council. Syd Barrett's record collection!
This was extremely interesting! Great work
Interesting....I didn't know about any of these! Please do more.
The world needs another one of these
You know that guy that refers to lynyrd skynyrd as a person
That’s my entire town
You kids ever hear of Dread Zeppelin?
Viva Tortelvis!
Yes. Rasta band doing Zeppelin covers.
Yeah with a guy singing Led Zeppelin songs with an Elvis voice😂
Great vid!
Ladies and gentlemen, Len Zefflin.
Joe Mama I had a high school teacher who thought it was Ted Zeppelin
Greetings from Vancouver, great vids! Could you do a video on string care? I find so many guitarists don't know how to stretch strings to make bending better right after re-stringing. Also thoughts on double stop bends staying in tune on guitars with trems? Thanks!
definitely would enjoy a part 2. :)
Shout out from Akron here! (Pronounced ACKron ;) )
Home of the D Flats! lol
Cool vid, thanks for the upload!
We need a part 2 of this.
i caught your little whistler bike park hint in the beginning
I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SAMURAI PIZZA CATS REFERENCE!! I haven't seen that cartoon in too long...want to see it again so bad. XD
New Samurai video? Let's peep this out.
I'm still wondering about Red Hot Chili Peppers
Actually, RHCP and Pearl Jam had someone in common: the drummer Jack Irons.
I assumed Pearl Jam was a euphemism for semen.
What, indeed.
Simon Lister That's hilariously disgusting
This is true , these guys are idiots.
Duh, when you really stop to think "what is a pearl colored ja-oooohhhhh"
It is.
blink 182 is from rancho Bernardo (r.b.). a town in San Diego. r is the 18th letter in the alphabet and b is the second. 182
Cool You should make a part 2.
Aight hear me out. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
That's what happens when you take acid me amigo
There is an iconic chilean band called "Los jaivas" (you MUST listen to them, they are awesome).
Look for how they got the name. I hope you enjoy.
=D
I could tell you, but it´s more fun to look for it.
wow somehow i decided to do this and it's great - the band & the name :)
Love the Matt Mays shirt....throwing east coast Canada so recognition
Pearl Jam Fact: Their debut album “Ten” is after Mookie’s jersey number
plzz do a part 2 man!
There's a funny anecdote where Chico Buarque (AMAZING brazillian musician) was playing a football match where Phill Selway was also playing, and he told Selway that Radiohead owed it's name to him... Turns out David Byrne took the name Radio Head from a song of his (O Ultimo Blues). There's not much point to this story, but I found it really cool.
Subscribed 😁 when I searched RUclips for how bands got their names you were the only search to pop up. 😁 Hope you make more. I would love to know how U2, Metallica, and many other bands got their names. I bet some are fascinating.
Tracii Guns and Axl Rose
LA guns and Roses
GUNS N ROSES!!!!!!
Aditya Amitabh it was LA guns and Hollywood rose
Charlie Ord Oh really? I didn't know that. I saw axl on jimmy kimmel and there he showed a 'Roses' Poster. That's why I said Roses
AXL ROSE
I always thought they had that name because they had hard rock songs (being the gun part) and emotional ballads (the rose part)
I love how Keith Moon’s iconic for many different things including the name of the most iconic band ever.
Do more of these!
The New Yardbirds were together for a short time to basically fulfill contracted obligations. In fact, they were threatened with lawsuit action for using the Yardbirds name. The rest of the story is as told - Entwistle and Moon, etc....
I was waiting for Pink Floyddo a part 2!
Love the Matt Mays shirt! And the video!
Dallas Green - City and Colour
So simple yet so clever
The same story as Blink 182 was a punk band we saw play back in the day called Flashlight, there was a European band with the same name so they changed it to Flashlight Brown
The Black Keys story was really cool and kind of creepy. I like them even more now.
Nice shirt! New album coming soon
In Turbo Basic programming, you can set the color nmbr 128 for the text to blink on the screen. I thought that's why
Now you got me wondering about the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
Part 2 please!
For me the origins of the name my chemical romance is quite interesting. The bassist Mikey way and singer Gerard way where working at a book store they came across a book by Irvine Walsh on the back it had the line 5 taels of chemical romance this quote stuck with the way brothers just after 9/11 when Gerard managed to get a band together (including his brother mikey) they where deciding a name for the band mikey put forth the quote of chemical romance but they didn’t think it was quite right so Gerard (who had been struggling with pill addiction in other words a chemical romance) added the personal my.
No, the book was by a different author. And Mikey added the "My"
Gotta love the black keys.
That Black Keys origin is a pretty good one.
Blur where originally called Seymore but where asked to change it by their label. They got given a list and picked the first one. That's the only band name story I know but links in nicely with Skynyrd
Actually I was riveted by the advertisement of some guitar company installing frets on a fingerboard but SG....your video was great too. BTW, I also wrestle with the thought of cutting my hair and there's no shortage of advice. It just takes so dang long to grow it and only about a minute to loose it all. Good luck with your decision :-)
on a Friday reminds of this band called after school that plays at my school
love where Billy talent got their name. Hard core logo is an awesome movie.
Part 2 please :)
kudos for matt mays t shirt!
I dont remember where i read it but, another version of how Led Zepplin got the name was something like Page and i think a manager were in a bar talking about adding another guitarist to the New Yardbird and the manager said that it would go over like a Led Zepplin (i think it was in the book The Hammer of the Gods)
Take a wild guess ant where i got my name....
please do more i just found this channel and everything is awesome!
I bet 182 is how many days they forgot about it until they were reminded
You should mention how Muse went from Rocket Baby Dolls to Muse.
If I had a cover band it would be called tears for beers.
Man, that would be one hell of a bake sale!
definately do this again. maybe even do it weekly?
Whats the friggin song in the back ground. Ive heard it but i dont remember it.
If I ever start a band, I'm gonna name it 'circle.'
our logo's gonna be a square
Double Crunch jenius
That's so weird that Pearl Jam used to go by Mookie... In Thai, Mook (มุก) means pearl. It's like they always know that they are gems. 😏
Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam is a huge basketball fan and liked the name of a player at that time, Mookie Blaylock. Record label hated it, so they changed to Pearl Jam. Their first album though had 11 songs was titled Ten. That was Mookies jersey number
Do a MUSICIANS YOU DIDNT KNOW WERE FROM OTHER BANDS
Samurai Pizza Cats eh? I see what you did there & I love it.
Can I be a pizza cat?
No
@@Reject101Personal lol
Love the Matt Mays shirt!
Me and my flatmate play in a 2 piece band called Gatepost, we picked it randomly out of a dictionary and it means" a post next too a gate"
Radiohead used to have radios for heads.
Plz do another one!!!
I'm pretty sure they at least subconsciously were thinking about the movie Turk 182.
SamuraiGuitarist and The Pizza Katz new hit single "Man Bun For A Real Man"
Hey Sammy G! can you do more Hockey Guitar?
absolutely no disrespect meant here. but i had to chuckle at the way you said "akron ohio" lol (i live there) the A is long like in "apple". Def not trying to be a smartass. Love your videos dude. Keep up the good work! :D love your vids about theory and overcoming different mental states. :D
Ahhh I know a couple people mentioned that. I should've done my due diligence and checked the pronunciation
I'm so glad you mentioned radiohead
What is the instrument on top of the book case
Cole Bushell
Hi cole, I hope you found your answer earlier but that is a sitar from Japan
Samuraiguitarist and The PizzaCats. Simply beautiful.
