Barn Memories - Jessie Peterson Norton

Barn Memories is an oral history project completed by the Appalachian Barn Alliance (appalachianbar...) and sponsored by the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The project involved interviews with long-time residents of Madison County, NC, all reminiscing about their most cherished barn memories. This interview is one of ten collected during this endeavor.
Jessie Peterson Norton is from the Upper Laurel, Puncheon Fork community of Madison County. Recently retired, Jessie taught school for 20 years. She has always farmed with family and continues now with her husband Buster on Arrington Branch. She generously teaches many curious homesteaders the traditional farming skills that are at risk of disappearing. Interviewed December 2022.
