Always a joy to find channels from younger people my age talking about Tamiya. Every time I tell people I have basically only Tamiyas, they look perplexed, as though someone in their 20s should be buying only Traxxas or Aarma.
I started with Traxxas and have had many Traxxas and Arrma vehicles, but there is just something so fun and quirky about the Tamiya models :) Will they ever be the best performing models or the most scale accurate or the best value? No, and they haven't been since the late 80s, but I still love them nonetheless. (Also I will never stop being peeved at people complaining about "cheap" Phillips head screws in Tamiya and Kyosho because they strip out. IT'S JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) SCREWS NOT PHILLIPS. I've stripped out more hex head screws than JIS screws in my over a decade of experience in the hobby.)
@@chibiskyrc I, too, used to hold that opinion about Tamiya screws until I realized they were JIS! It made building the cars significantly easier. That being said, I think Tamiya is listening to those complaints, the recent Super Avante I built came with only hex screws.
Nice to see you back with a video! I really enjoyed this comparison...I've had one on my wish list for a long time, this has helped me understand the platform better. In the end for me I love the build, but I have an axial xr10, the original ax10 scorpion and deadbolt plus I made my Tamiya dynahead a crawler with a lot of nice upgrades. So this car is not necessarily for its abilities, but I definitely enjoy how it looks and its unique nature. I think your mods and upgrades are perfect. Hope you been well! I'm an old sub but never comment as I was on console yt for so long(can't comment on console).
From a pure RC car perspective? Usually yeah. Tamiya is designed though to be toys that are interesting and fun to build as well as to drive, hence why so many of their cars are so quirky and strange, and why most people that love Tamiyas are people that build them as well as drive them.
I enjoyed the video. I knew nothing about the CR01, and appreciate the quirkiness of Tamiya's take. Oh, and if that's your 1:1 Si, it's cool too!

@phlyingphalanges yeah, a downgrade in my opinion 😔
