This makes me want to take a look in the mirror and have an HONEST look at myself... give myself some reality checks... and start moving clearly according to the honest truth.

This was good …I overcame fear of public speaking by practicing and recording myself. If you know your subject material then you can speak better in it, I was told… and I learned to do so even when heckled (a woman of color in a predominantly male, white field back in the day). I wish someone had spoken some of your words of advice to me when I was young. The people around me were not very encouraging; so I learned from books. I went from journalism (interviewing people and writing) to public relations work (writing and selling a message). I had to speak it in front of large crowds, on the radio, and in meetings. Then I completed a Toastmaster speed course (two weeks) which helped me learn more types of speeches and gain more confidence. When I published my first book of poetry, many years later, I could sell a book anywhere I went… however I became nervous on stage again, because I had never done live poetry readings… my book was very personal and I was not sure how people would react. I overcame that fear by just doing it badly (soft spoken) until I got over the fear of people possibly judging me for what I wrote. All the while I also pushed myself vocally everywhere else… sang in the church worship band (harmonizing with the band leader - no more hiding behind a church choir). I acted in local plays, (solo parts - no more hiding as a group singer or dancer or “extra.”) It helped me project and emote better and to connect with the hearers. I got paid ZERO dollars for all of it. However, what I learned was priceless. No book can replace real life experience.
I’m always my worst critic, and people hear and see me and think I’m the most confident... The only insecurities I have now only come from wanting to be better (not from thinking I’m less than). I am only competing with myself. It takes practice to get experience, and it takes courage to face our fears and do it scared. Then we help others face theirs just by our own example, and that makes it all worth it even more.
What you did during this episode was help a young man to build the skills he needs. So often I heard “fake it till you make it” when I was younger. But you can’t fake it, because then you become an imposter. Imposter syndrome aka False Prophet syndrome can cause a person to become an addict or succumb into depression. You saved this young man’s life. He has a chance to become who he is really meant to be. The key for him is to be authentic in his pursuit of excellence with courage. He will keep growing and become bold for what he believes.
Thanks for this Awesome episode tonight. May God bless your work and the lives you and your team touch for good.
I know I wrote a book here… whelp, I Am a Writer. 😆 But let me say this… I hit the like and subscribe buttons because of this episode right here, tonight. I had been watching your show’s IG clips for a few months and clicked on something that required an email, and your team sent a link to this episode. I almost didn’t watch because of the words “false prophet.” But once I heard how you defined it, I understood… the imposter syndrome can really set a person back from fulfilling their true purpose in life. I’m so glad I watched and listened. Thank you for taking time and having the kindness to share wisdom and speak life into this young man.

I work in the museum field so not an entrepreneur, but I absolutely love these hot seats. The lessons I learn from watching them apply to so many facets of life. As someone who had to push myself out of my comfort zone as a natural introvert, this was a great episode!

I like this guy. He seems like a good person. He is definitely super shy but came on the hot seat. I'm not shy at all and I'm not sure if I would come on the hot seat. Once he does build his confidence and tap into his own originality I think he would do great. I loved this episode

I think what’s giving him pause on the post interview is the aftermath of the realization that he’s not who he has seen himself to be. It’s like you can physically see him processing thoughts & questioning himself on his answers. He cares about being right and how he sounds. He just had his world/identity shook up & is trying to process the questions & articulate his answer in a way that doesn’t make him look like a fool while still recovering from the hard lessons he just learned. That’s my take at least.

I’ll give the young King credit for bringing his vision from his mind to reality. I like the hoodie and the hat. But you go it alone, get a mentor that can help. He should join Toastmasters International to sharpen his public speaking skills.

the question I would ask is why the brand name (Grind in silence) Something in his heart and mind told him to name his brand this so why? That would help him rethink the moment he chose the brand name. His confidence is low because he does not know about entrepreneurship.
