Had I been told a few months ago that I'd genuinely enjoy listening to this worn out song on and on during 32 min... Leon, your work compiling these renditions and your learned notes are amazing. Even soothing I'd say. They allow to take a step back and reconsider Elvis' music as part of history, which is much welcome in the emotional time we're going through right now. Thank you for your serene consistency in educating us!
I love all the 1969 versions. The 1970 version from TTWII (one of the last guitar solos) is one of my favorites. Everything starting in 1973 is difficult to listen to.
Such a brilliant song, sung with Elvis' fantastic voice full of liveliness and great sense of rhythm, driving the audience in the crucible of frenzy!!...His songs sound great in every version even if there is a slight difference in tempo and arrangement, with the great band playing. Thanks for this great share Leon. 🧡🧡⚘️°°🤍🤍⚘️
Definitely not a great opener, but the faster tempo versions that you saw as the 70s wore on arent ideal either. You sort of nailed it though, it was a hit for its time and only remained in the set out of a sense of obligation to give fans what they wanted. If Elvis had his choice he definitely would have dropped it, but since he couldn’t we got loads of fast paced low effort versions. And thats not a knock on elvis, plenty of artists do the same with their hits! Constantly performing one song is not a recipe for a fun live experience for anyone but the audience
And again you left out the versions of the most historic concert Elvis ever performed. The Alternate Aloha and the Aloha From Hawaii. And I guess the versions from the’68 comeback were not live?
Hi Riccardo The Aloha version of songs, unless the performances are unique or exceptional enough to be audio only, are always left out because they won't pass RUclips's copyright protection. You are right about the 68 special that whilst performed in front of an audience are not considered live as they are part of a structured TV program. For example, during the stand up sections, there are several restarts instigated by other parties other than Elvis.
