True story. A British av8b harrier pilot was running out of fuel in the middle of the atlantic, due to a mechanical issue. Their was no way he could even make it to land, let alone a proper runway. Below him he saw a small container ship cruising and having, no other option he just plopped right down on the containers. That is where he landed. Both him and his aircraft were none the worse for this little adventure. Amazing.

Well, so much for the quiet little town (even with the nearby Naval Air Station) I lived at in the middle 70s.
Imagine if these Harrier jets started hovering in Bray this year. They would make a hell a lot of noise. Way louder and better than the Red Arrows displaying.

En ese justo momento cuando están los aviones estáticos, todo lo que las toberas lanzan al exterior el queroseno y toda la porquería de gases, fue malísimo para los que estábamos en la playa, la mayoría, salimos con los ojos y la cara hinchados, pero valió la pena ver el espectáculo entero, personalmente, me encantó el Eurofighter Typhoon ese fue visto y no visto, hizo un vuelo a baja altura y de repente, solo vimos un diminuto punto en el cielo !!maravilloso¡¡
Pues imagínate los que están destinados en la cubierta del Juan Carlos l.
De aquí en 20 años cáncer de pulmón, sin problema.

The aircraft in the video is a McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II not British and were it not for the US taxpayer funding via the MWDP the Kestrel and Harrier never would have made it past the drafting table.

The design was given to the US by the British government.

The black smoke coming out of the nozzle is due to the higher RPM of the turbine than it was while the harrier was completely stationary. The higher turbine speed without going forward increases the air intake resistance, and it will cause incomplete cumbustion of fuel in a turbine, creating black smoke like your diesel truck emitting black smoke and sorry I made this up XD

curioso que hagan vuelo estacionario sobre el agua pero poca gente sabe la verdad de esos aviones , solo pueden hacer esa maniobra sin carga de bombas,misiles y depositos extra de combustible sencillamanete porque caerian su motor no tiene la suficiente potencia y solo pueden estas si menos de un minuto en otra superficie dura ya ue se recalentarian y arderian jajajaj por eso lo hacen sobre el mar sin carga un extra de agua para refriguerar los motores y hacerlo mas expectacular jajajajja pero es todo mentira , que nadie se crea hacen eso cargados y en guerra , ah tampoco pueden despegar cargados verticalmente solo pueden hacerlo sin carga o utilizando pista corta que si podrian
Bueno, a los que nos gusta el mundo de la aviación sí que seguramente sepamos esos detalles y como bien dices en este caso así es.
Pero esto mismo se puede extrapolar a cualquier avión de cualquier Nación que esté haciendo específicamente un ejercicio acrobático o de exhibición.
Hay videos de A10C II haciendo acrobacias, trepadas increíbles y giros a unas buenas G's que si tuvieran configuración de vuelo de combate con el payload de rigor, no podrían hacer ni en sueños, o un F22 o Su35 haciendo cosas imposibles en el aire con el empuje vectorial que tampoco podrían hacer si estuvieran en configuración de combate.
Aunque como dices, para el gran público de estos espectáculo puede crearse esa falsa sensación de que así es como operan normalmente.

Bueno yo no conozco nada, pero calculando según lo que has dicho, después de explorar a unos cuantos rusos cuando vuelves sin carga entonces si puedes posar de emergencia en cualquier lugar o barco.
