  • In Uganda, a young woman Juliet Tumusiime is using banana fibres to make wigs and hair extensions as an alternative to synthetic hair, which is made of plastic fibres.
Synthetic hair is on the rise globally as it is more affordable than human hair. But the material is not biodegradable, and when thrown away it often ends up in landfill sites or clogging water bodies

Power moves🔥 How can we as natural beings attach plastic artificial hair onto our own? Water and oil do not mix just like nature and artificial things should not mix. Banana is natural. Revolutionary idea! Well done ✊🏾

Lmao everyone asking where we can reach this woman😂😭
For those wondering why fake hair is so important to so many black women: the coolest thing about black hair is how much you can do with it! It helps us survive in a world that expects us to look a certain way, express ourselves, connect with sister from all over the world etc. But the more you bother your own hair (whether it's changing the color, texture, length, braiding or just washing it) the more stress it puts on not just your hair but yourself as well. Sadly its not as easy as accept/love your hair. We do! But sadly we don't live in a world where we just have to take our hair's need into account (both me and my hair thrive on just being in non tight, non laid, cornrows for the most times)
Braiding hair fixes a lot of this! All the tugging, pulling, coloring etc is being done on the braiding hair, so our hair just has to get the good stuff 😊. Sadly a lot of braiding hair is unethical, bad for the environment, full of toxins, itchy, uncomfortable, expensive etc. So naturally we're all jumping on the opportunity to be able to buy this in our countries! Sadly most of these initiatives are only available jn the US :(.
