Worked 80 - 100 hours a week for one company on Interstate bridge rehabilitation. The boss stated: "You can eat / sleep in the Winter. By the end of this season you'll wish you were never born." 🤣 Character building stuff!
That's disgusting, your boss has a duty of care for you and all the staff he and the company employ. Working such excessive hours is extremely dangerous too.
Two different jobs. Two different concepts. Two different atmospheres. He made the right decision. And one that holds his office staff to the same standards as the factory floor workers. Having to come to work is not tough love. It’s life. Most people want to work from home because they don’t work. They f*ck around. And he knows it.
I work from home. In fact I work for a company where almost everyone works from home, all the time. We were totally unaffected when cv19 hit and the company actually started hiring more people, and doubled in size because we had so much new business. If Elon's teams can't work remotely as teams, he hired the wrong people.
As a CEO of 3 companies and film director i really think it depends which products your company works for. One of mine is a tech company and my team agree with me not for kindness but for passion and efficiency . They even told me after the pandemic that working at home is the worst to get things done not properly nor fast to do better and they even feel frustrated because it slowed down their speed of creativity and production. There is an incompatibility between innovation / creativity / upgrade / testing / production and working at home for sure. I completely understand that for a company like this YOU NEED TO BE THERE ! If you have a physical product in the tech world you need everyone here. The hardware team, software team, production team…and so on need to be connected physically at all time, they are not going to WhatsApp each other to work on a product, it doesn’t make sense. I’m not working 90+ hours per week on location to call the boss of the hardware team to resolve or add an idea to the product because it needs to be done with the all team IN LOCATION to try, test, talk and move on quickly. Working at home ( again for physical tech products where you have a production line ) is ridiculous. This is the best way for EVERYONE to loose their time and therefore money. When you have 10000+ employees on 15 different departments building cars, software, hardware, machines to build the cars, you need everyone on location. One simple example : My team on the test line told me we have a noise problem between the battery and the engine, i called both team and we find out that a none needed piece of equipment was the problem. The battery team thought it would protect the battery and the engine team didn’t ask anything. Problem solved in 1 day on the ENTIRE production line. Go do that with a team working at home now.

This is click bait and I work at Tesla. Elon musk is an amazing owner and is the best company I’ve ever worked for. So you should stop talking crap and making stop false assumptions about his leader ship about work environment and treatment to employees. His employee would go to war for him because he’s an amazing person and owner.
What Elon asked is Genuine. People working for 12 hr plus shift heavy labours get less paid, And People who are getting better paid are thinking they can sit at home and places they want and paid good salary. Owners also have right to ask for his/her employees to be present at work place, or get less paid or work somewhere else.
It depends on the job. You can be tremendously productive in remote jobs. However, some jobs do make more sense to require attendance at a physical work location with other employees.
What really makes love my job is when I am "walking around" and the CEO yells at me and installs surveillance to make sure I don't, what a powerful and cool guy, just being in the same building as him 12 hours a day brings my productivity to new levels. @@ruk2023-- what do you do with your time in the office if you are not working? At home you can cook, clean the house, look after pets and kids, trim the lawn, do laundry, chat with family and friends etc.. at work it's harder to do these things.
@@SimonCU I didn’t say I wasn’t working in the office. I said I get more done at home than in the office. In the office there are always people interrupting to ask questions or collaborate whereas at home it’s easier to focus and get things done. Doesn’t mean that’s the same for everyone.
I wouldn’t do that unless I was working for myself, which is why I’ve been self employed for 20 years. My days of burning the midnight oil and being constantly on call, just to put money in someone else’s pocket and help someone above you to climb the greasy career pole, were over long ago. When you work for someone else, give them their money’s worth, but not more. In my experience, hard work gets you nowhere in the corporate world, someone else will take the credit for it while focusing their own efforts on political manoeuvring and licking asses for their own advancement. However, when I started my own business it was a startling revelation to me, how much my time and effort was really worth, when the rewards came directly to me rather than to someone else.
@@justinneill5003 You say you're self employed, I wonder if you hired employees to work under you in your company, and gradually realized that they shared your mentality about barely doing enough work to justify their paycheck, would you just left them continue to just show up or would you let them go to find better talent.

We are allowed to work from home some. This makes some sense for my team, as we do a lot of global project work for people we only ever see over an online meetings anyway. I also do local support work. I can tell where it it makes sense to be onsite for the people at my site who I support. When they see my face regularly, there is bonding and they trust me to help them. When I am looking at them in the eye, it makes me want to help them more, not wanting to let them down. We did not evolve to never have direct social contact with people, we need that.
If you stick to measuring results, that's not true. Work is not a social club or an encounter group. It's all about money and output. If you want to socialize and bond, join a meetup or country club.

Way too many people "working from home" while basically doing everything else at home at the same time. Even staff who DO work as hard at home - still miss out on on sharing ideas / thoughts / ideas / innovative ponderings when sat in isolation. Sure, if you just want to paid for assembling widgets at home - I see no problem in doing that at home. If you are in a senior position and a lot of your job entails interacting with others, then you need to be in the office to do that. Skype and all the rest really is NOT the same at all. I'm not a great fan of Musk, but in this, he is absolutely right. There are typically HIGHLY paid people - the least they can do, is turn up for work.
Don't blame him. My new standard in shopping is whether a company wants my business or not. Looks like Tesla wants my business. There is a lot of pressure to be a slacker.
I worked for Tesla at this time. We couldn’t reach people in HR, they were unresponsive! “Working from home”. Engineers with issues on the production lines…but they were “working from home”. It was ridiculous! Elon was correct in this decision. There were a very large number of salaried employees blatantly taking advantage and just flat out and out not working their hours. It shouldn’t take a week to get a response from another employee that is responsible for the working conditions of others. I know work for another former Tesla exec…I do work from home two days a week but am held to a very high standard. The same one he held us to at Tesla for 15 years. Work or go find something else to do. That simple.
My comment to this is... I'll happily come in to work Per Elon when companies pay for my parking, fuel, let me expense my lunch and milage on my car, let me expense my equipment, internet, and cellphone, and finally pay me for these items retrospectively since I used them the past 2 years without compensation. I give these services to the company without any compensation. The least the company can do is to not reverse work from home while for the past 2 years we all have been working from home. Simply put, Elon can go work in his factory by himself as far as I'm concerned, and this is from a guy that actually likes Elon. I refuse to be a work slave to anyone at this point.

If it was 9 figures and he didn’t give her any money, he still didn’t give her any money. Not quite sure what is meant by the mention of 7 figures.

True., but often easier said than done. As an experienced engineer made ready it took me a year to get a part time job here in the UK.

But not all companies want you working from home...

"You can eat / sleep in the Winter. By the end of this season you'll wish you were never born." 🤣

Lol. I'm out.
Elon Musk is Steve Jobs V2.0
@@epicdigitalmotion7066 Ok, fine enough, maybe it's true for your niche, I don't know that. But for services remote is normal... Why online marketing specialist or webdesigner would work offline / onsite? It makes 0 sense. Everything in this kind of business can be easily done online.
@@epicdigitalmotion7066 Exactly! well said!
@@AnotherSkyTV Just because it can be done doesn't mean it will be. Some people work just as well or even better from home. Of course the distance has a limiting factor.
“This is less than factory workers” well factory workers can’t really be remote. Unless they’re management
Yeah, I caught that too.
This is click bait and I work at Tesla. Elon musk is an amazing owner and is the best company I’ve ever worked for. So where’s the part where the employee gets fired live?
Its still on the floor of the editing room waiting for the janitor to file it in the dumpster.
Nah. Put some clothes on and come to work, slacker.
Depends on the person as well. I know many people who does very well in remote work. But there are also lazy people who just pretends to work.
What really makes love my job is when I am "walking around" and the CEO yells at me and installs surveillance to make sure I don't, what a powerful and cool guy, just being in the same building as him 12 hours a day brings my productivity to new levels. Now I sleep on the floor because I love it so much here and never want to go home. It reminds me of my time in the emerald mines, best years of my life. As a child I yearned for the mines, eating and sleeping in them was a privilege.

I will tell you as someone who runs a small business, working from home requires a LOT of discipline. My business constantly suffers from me getting distracted and not putting in the amount of work I need to. It's VERY difficult, and gets harder the longer you do it. I really have to put in everything I have to fight all the constant distractions these days.
thats why Elon wants people to go back to work so they can concentrate in the office without distractions.
@@SimonCU I get more done at home than in the office. I know this because I go into the office for 2 days a week.
I am pretty sure most of us are no strangers to 16 hours/day work hour and sleeping in the office for 5 hours. Especially when you are on a deadline.
@@GodSaveTheUnitedStates No, I never needed to hire anyone, just myself. But if I had, and they did exactly what they were being paid to do, and put in the hours they were contracted to, I wouldn’t have expected any more from them.
@@justinneill5003 Sometimes, what AL is describing is what is asked and expected of them... if you signed a contract to work for the company, that contract go's over exactly what you might be asked to do, and if someone is uncomfortable with it they, of course, don't have to work there.
@@GodSaveTheUnitedStates Every case is different, there are bosses / companies who exploit the workforce and make their lives a misery, there are lazy/negligent employees who exploit the company and don’t earn their crust, and there is everything in between. Whether you’re an employer or an employee, you have to rely on the other party keeping their side of the bargain, and based on my experience I’m just relieved that I don’t need to.

I guess it entirely depends on one's priorities. Whether having a life, family and downtime is preferred - or your career, the company and 80 hour work weeks as your life. You can't have both without consequences. if you're selfish you attempt the two and end up divorced with children in therapy. It happens all the time...
Didn't he say "40 hours at a minimum"? No mention of 80 hours.

Sure, if you just want to paid for assembling widgets at home - I see no problem in doing that at home. If you are in a senior position and a lot of your job entails interacting with others, then you need to be in the office to do that. Skype and all the rest really is NOT the same at all.

Elon Musk is right ..... Innovative mindset is important
Dude work on your voice narration. I support you
Failure to innovate means failure to make me more money.
