Only difference between this one and the rest is the fact that Mick genuinely didn't want to kill this guy because he was a close friend of his fathers and had known him for a long time. Look at the way Mick looks at him as he is dying and also the look he gives himself when he is in the car he is weighing his options and evidently comes to the conclusion because he knows too much and Mick doesn't want to take that chance in case the authorities get involved.

As an Aussie - Wolf Creek et al is perhaps the scariest, and most evil movie series I have ever watched. It is totally "legit" that someone like him could exist out in the Outback...... Me being a Grey Nomad, makes me more aware of my surroundings when touring our great country. And I ALWAYS have my shotgun ready....
It's bloody lonely in the outback anyone could exist out there and fly under the radar. I can watch any horror movie without any care but Wolf Creek is the only one that disturbs me to the core because of how realistic a monster could kill in the desert and easily get away with it scot free.

Other than Mick being extremely overly paranoid about getting caught i don't see any good reason he had to kill this man

The shop owner knows about the killing spree that is going on in mick's father place, plus he watches them crime showes and he knows a police officer is after the killer. So he could easily identify mick if the police officer shows up in the shop. If he had kept his mouse shut. Non of this would have happened. Just like the women in the first season that owns a restaurant. He killed her because she did not keep her mouse shut. She told him i know you . I never forget a face.
Knowing Mick's MO though, and the fact she was on foot and therefore wouldn't be far away - I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't grab her on his way out. The prequel books really flesh out how vicious and depraved he truly is, he wouldn't pass her up.

He only killed him because his friend was suspicious and too invested in the case and just in case the cops came down to question him he didn't want to take any chances and potentially get himself captured and arrested. You can tell he really didn't want to kill him based upon his reaction when he was sitting in his car contemplating what to do whether or not to kill him. He ultimately does as to cover up his tracks and to potentially stop his friend from inadvertently setting the cops on him should they come around and start asking questions. Plus don't forget Mick is a violent psychopath, rational thinking and empathy don't exist for people like that it's a foreign concept.

The shop owner knows about the killing spree that is going on in mick's father place, plus he watches them crime showes and he knows a police officer is after the killer. So he could easily identify mick if the police officer shows up in the shop. If he had kept his mouse shut. Non of this would have happened. Just like the women in the first season that owns a restaurant. He killed her because she did not keep her mouse shut. She told him i know you . I never forget a face.

Knowing Mick's MO though, and the fact she was on foot and therefore wouldn't be far away - I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't grab her on his way out. The prequel books really flesh out how vicious and depraved he truly is, he wouldn't pass her up.
It wouldn't be very tactical and smart of him would it though. He was in a gun shop with the owner standing right next to him and potentially other people could have seen it in that were in the area.
