I've never been a Hyundai fan, but I got to test drive the 2010 Genesis Coupe today and I was just really, really impressed by it.. and the paddleshifting was a blast, lol. Handled great, pretty good acceleration and it even sounds and looks amazing. It was really, really sensitive with the brakes and gas though, and I have to agree the seat felt a little awkward.. but honestly, this car really caught me by surprise.
Hyundai is changing it's name now. The Genesis Sedan, Coupe and 2011 Sonata are three examples of how they're doing it. The quality of their cars has sky rocketed and yet the price has stayed the same. To all the Hyundai haters, go look at the 2011 Sonata, Genesis Sedan and the brand new Hyundai Equus. Ive never seen a company grow so fast and improve so much in so little time. Keep up amazing work Hyundai!
wow i think hyundai is so underated. ive got a 2011 hyundai sonata and its one of the best cars ive driven and hyundai is really stepping up their game lately
This is just the beginig for hyundai, they got 5 more surprises coming soon for 2011 and 2012, this is going to be one of the fastest upscale transformations for a car company.
God i just like the styling of this one so much more then the new one. The new front looks off and i dont really care for the new hood. I just feel this version is more simple and clean while still looking aggressive. Just wish it had the upgraded performance of the new ones but you still get over 300hp for a v6 which is still very good
before I bought my 09 WRX, I went and test drove these. The 6 cylinder felt pretty fast, but the 4 cyl turbo couldn't get out of it's own way. Glad I got the car I did, esp since very little modding and tuning has made it a near monster. They should've done a V6 turbo model, that would've been sweet. You want to drop 30 grand on a rear wheel vehicle, get a 370Z, far more bang for your buck.
This Genesis is one sweet ride! I would also probably go for the 2.0l Turbo since it would be more fuel efficient and would allow for quite a bit of tuning. From what I heard it's the same engine in the Lancer Evo that's producing 290+ HP so that leaves a lot of from from Vroom! My parents bought a hyundai sonata a few years ago. It's a great car and fits their lifestyle perfect. It actually looks pretty good as well. These Koreans appear to have their manufacturing down.
@opiumized I kinda agree with you, but at the same time the 370z with the same options (paddle shift, leather, premium sound, etc) costs 40k, not 30k. Yes, the 2.0t is anemic, but the stock turbo on that is pretty massive for OEM! Simple mods that you performed on your car would be just as effective honestly. Ive seen 300rwhp 2.0t's with nothing but bolt ons and tuning changes. I drive a g37s and my wife drives a 3.8Gen, and they are actually pretty competing cars O.o
Great review, good balance, and very informative. Reading the comments of most other people in this thread, makes me think that they need to do what Hyundai did: improve. They are the language equivalent of a cheap car with serious defects. Ignorance and intellectual neglect are killing America
While I was on my way to work 2 days ago, I saw this car fly by me and I quickly looked back and was like "WTF?? HYUNDAI??" So today I googled it and this car is pretty sweet. Might pick one up at the end of the month when the dealers are extra nice about prices! :D
The Genesis was not the begining.. it was the 94 scoupe gt.. The firht try. I had one long time ago, and i loved it.. Had god times with it.. Very fun to drive car.. I hope this one bring at least a reliable engine.. Nice this Genesis.. Good luck Hyundai.
@GodlessMartyr666 yea i believe u but the genesis isnt a ricer its a tuner, but if i get the genesis v6 and throw an exhaust, intake, performance chip, plugnplay E-manage system, and supercharger then ur lincoln wont be able to keep up now would it? And the fact is the genesis doesnt have cam upgrades yet or piston upgrades and i dont think they have upgrades for the transmission yet but i will check.
I drive a g37s coupe, my wife drives a 3.8 genesis coupe. My infiniti is a smidge nicer, but at the end of the day, I really really should have just gotten myself one of them as well!!! To make it truly competitive, subtle badging (put the genesis badge!!), a tech package akin to the sedan genesis (nav, Idrive type thing etc), and some more ammenities would make this a killer car at a killer price. even with a 4k tech package itd still be about 15k cheaper then my g37s!!!
@basspatrol805 They already did, in 2005 they hired the engineers from Honda, and since then their quality has been on par with the big name brands, people just haven't realized it yet.
my grandpa has a fully loaded track model its fucking amazing. imagine if they put the V8 in the coupe that thing could probably be running with corvettes and mustangs
May be the technology development alliances are giving excellent results for Hyundai, finally. They made a promise back in 2001: they said Hyundai were gonna be one of the most reliable, safety and well designed cars in the market within the next 5 years, and they complied with that promise and they are still making even better and better cars. Amazing standard equipment for the price with 5 stars in safety and more reliability than any japanese massive car production brand, it is a winner!
2L turbo or 3.8L V6? mmm thats hard one, the sound and smooth feel of the V6 and factory power vs the high RPM and easy to mod & tune of the turbo 4 banger i guss i would need i good look at the 2L to decide
it also has useable seats in the back, better equipment and handling is about as good as the 86 while offering a much more comfortable ride the 2013 2.0T was neck to neck with the 370Z on laguna seca and the 3.8 was faster ..
One of the factors you may want to consider when choosing between the Genesis Coupe and maybe a G37 or a 370z is resale value. You may pay way more for a G37 or a 370z, but you can sell the car two-four years down the road much easier than a Hyundai, unless you just want to keep the Genesis to pass down to your grandkids.
@ksearles85 I understand what you are saying but plenty of countries pronounce a word in their own way whether it be a company or not... All I am saying is that Hyundai Motor America says it the way I stated in commercials and in dealerships.
@Bradsmere how the hell did you pay that much? i think someone robbed you at dealership cause i just got off the hyundai website and after adding everything possible it still didn't pass 40 thousand. i mean for that price you could have bought 2 and still had enough money for gas for the rest of the year
I noticed that a lot of the nobody auto makers like hyundai, saturn and even kia are all stepping up their game. They're actually making good looking cars. O_o
what are u talking about? im not comparing a ferrari to a genesis and yes my highlander is moded and it does 5.4 0-60 and yes there are suv';s like the Jeep Srt8 that do 4.3 seconds from 0-60 so does a Cayenne Turbo S and the Ml63 is in the 5 ranges.
I'm a huge american muscle fan, I think this car is cool. I hate FWD imports; however, i love AWD/RWD imports. call me crazy but that just the way sports cars should be set up. My GF has a hyundia and it has been NOTHING but reliable. I'd buy this car just for it's price point.
@djay102687 thats true man if you tuned the little speed racer it would outrun the lincoln off the line and probably stay well ahead of it too , but.. we're comparing an aluminum bodied sport coupe with a 4000lb piece of luxury american steel with a V8 Its just I like the boat, and the leather seats in the boat , and the room it has over the genesis is huge.
I would really like to know how you took that much time off of your 0-60. Toyota Highlanders are not considered anything close to quick. If you only did a few mods to your truck to make it that much quicker that means you had to make it more powerful. I would like to know what kind of power your truck makes and you need to post a video of your 0-60 because I just dont believe you and I dont think anyone here does either sorry.
when i was looking for cars i test drove this and was interested (09 edition) but there were like no manual versions anywhere in the country. i called hyundai and there was like 3. i ended up buying the car i wanted from the get go, WRX
@asleeperj You so so right man. I own a 97' Buick Riviera and it weighs just a few pounds LESS than the v-6 Camaro not to mention many other cars. The Charger weighs 400 lbs. MORE then my Buick ( which was the flagship model at the time.) And instead of actually making the car's to that same spec as back then, they actually CHEAPEN the materials to achieve some lighten weight these days.
@MagikJoe77469 Your highlander does not go 0-60 anywhere near 5.4 seconds. Your 01 took almost 9 seconds. Heres a direct quote i found off of car and driver. "The 3.0-liter engine was able to propel the Highlander from 0-60 mph in approximately 8.8 seconds." In addition a newer Highlander with a larger 3.3L which your 01 does not have. It still only did 0-60 in 7.8 seconds. Sorry to burst yor bubble but your Highlander is not even close to as quick as the Genesis. Its 3.4 seconds slower!
@pansolo80 It's not "lazy American pronunciation". Watch the video where Hyundai challenges the Mini Cooper S to a race and the text says ..."Hyundai, just like Sunday". And that's from the manufacturer themselves...
@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS It is really unknown what Hyundai has plans for in this market. For a first SERIOUS attempt, I personally think they did a great job. As mentioned before, the Tiburon was not a serious sports car.... This is onlyy the frst generation of the GC, so it will be interesting to see where they take this and what lessons they have learned.
Agreed. What happened to sports cars that clocked in under a ton and a half. Geez the new muscle cars are weighing close to my old Lincoln town car, That thing could crash into a panzer and live to tell about it.
hyuindai is cool they made the tiburons well i have one and its sick! but they replaced them with the genesis not cool but they look almost the same so i wanna buy it but ill keep my sharky!
It happens in Korea and it is one of the biggest issue now. My point is hyundai want to hide this problem by saying that it was a driver's problem by changing wheel and tire other than original factory. I think it doesn't make any sense that affect the accelation and rpm problem. Sorry that you purchase the "Issue Car" but I'm not bullshitting.
@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS There are first for all companies dude. This car has awaken a lot of companies since this is their first serious effort. The Tib was meant as a sporty car, but not a pure SPORTS car. You can be sure they will not just stop at this car.... so while Toyota and Subie are co-developing - I am sure Hyundai has more tricks up its sleeve too. Either way the future looks to be quite interesting.
I want one of those cars soo bad!
Hyundai has seriously did a great job!
IMO in person its looks good
I've never been a Hyundai fan, but I got to test drive the 2010 Genesis Coupe today and I was just really, really impressed by it.. and the paddleshifting was a blast, lol.
Handled great, pretty good acceleration and it even sounds and looks amazing. It was really, really sensitive with the brakes and gas though, and I have to agree the seat felt a little awkward.. but honestly, this car really caught me by surprise.
this was one of the most fun cars i have ever driven, i am considering buying one in the spring. have to get the 3.8 TRACK though!
I want this soo badddd....idc that its a Hyundai its an amazing car a car to respect.
Hyundai is changing it's name now. The Genesis Sedan, Coupe and 2011 Sonata are three examples of how they're doing it.

Where can i watch more of your reviews
this is probably the most honest review ive seen of the genesis coupe! especially in the 1st minute and 1/2
LOL! ferrari at 2:36
that f430 at 2:35 was awesome.
before I bought my 09 WRX, I went and test drove these. The 6 cylinder felt pretty fast, but the 4 cyl turbo couldn't get out of it's own way. the 2008-presnet Hyundai Genesis Coupe is assembled in
Ulsan, South Korea
This Genesis is one sweet ride! I would also probably go for the 2.0l Turbo since it would be more fuel efficient and would allow for quite a bit of tuning. From what I heard it's the same engine in the Lancer Evo that's producing 290+ HP so that leaves a lot of from from Vroom!

I'm smart 🤓
While I was on my way to work 2 days ago, I saw this car fly by me and I quickly looked back and was like "WTF?? HYUNDAI??" So today I googled it and this car is pretty sweet. Might pick one up at the end of the month when the dealers are extra nice about prices! :D
Why don't they put the 4.6L V8 from the Genesis sedan into the track coupe?
Would the 2.0 turbo have more power than the standard 3.8 v6?
where is this road you guys are testing this car on? I really want to drive on this road! Is it in so cal?
who made the song with the bells...
it looks amazing in blue
wow that looks VERY good in red!!!
@kickers12c i think it was a porche carrera gt
good review man. im going to buy this car for your review
The song which plays int he ending of the video is really relaxing.. :) anyone may know the name of it?
good for hyundai man. they're really steppin it up
no, its bassicaly a reskined 240 sx. but with bassicaly the same engine found in the exo x. at least for the 2.0 T.
I drive a g37s coupe, my wife drives a 3.8 genesis coupe. My infiniti is a smidge nicer, but at the end of the day, I really really should have just gotten myself one of them as well!!!

where was this filmed?
@basspatrol805 They already did, in 2005 they hired the engineers from Honda, and since then their quality has been on par with the big name brands, people just haven't realized it yet.
Lol this guy is chill and says it how it is!
my grandpa has a fully loaded track model its fucking amazing. imagine if they put the V8 in the coupe that thing could probably be running with corvettes and mustangs

OMG what's the song at 0:41 ?
does the 2.0T take premium fuel?
what year would you guys say is the best make? i seem to like the interior of the older models better than the 2013
2L turbo or 3.8L V6? mmm thats hard one, the sound and smooth feel of the V6 and factory power vs the high RPM and easy to mod & tune of the turbo 4 banger i guss i would need i good look at the 2L to decide

is this a 4 seater?
what is that song that starts at 1:52
I'm sold! I'm getting one! I DON'T CARE IF IT'S A HYUNDAI!
Nothing wrong with Hyundai my tiburon was awesome
@ksearles85 I understand what you are saying but plenty of countries pronounce a word in their own way whether it be a company or not... All I am saying is that Hyundai Motor America says it the way I stated in commercials and in dealerships.
@Bradsmere how the hell did you pay that much? i think someone robbed you at dealership cause i just got off the hyundai website and after adding everything possible it still didn't pass 40 thousand. i mean for that price you could have bought 2 and still had enough money for gas for the rest of the year
@lightspeed302 mind if I ask how tall you are lol, I'm looking to get this car but I'm 6 3, so just making sure it has enough space
correction, he did what's called a "power slide"...in order to call it a "donut" you have to do a full 360, which he didnt.
@Bradsmere
You paid almost 60k for this car?!?
I noticed that a lot of the nobody auto makers like hyundai, saturn and even kia are all stepping up their game. They're actually making good looking cars. O_o
Hmm changed my opinion about Hyundai, anyone know the song at 3:19?
I just drifted in one today at JDM meet here in canada, it was amazing im gonna buy a 2010 3.8gt with navi
This car is a good competitor... I can't keep dailying my corvette. How good is this car in snowy conditions is the real question.
what are u talking about? im not comparing a ferrari to a genesis and yes my highlander is moded and it does 5.4 0-60 and yes there are suv';s like the Jeep Srt8 that do 4.3 seconds from 0-60 so does a Cayenne Turbo S and the Ml63 is in the 5 ranges.
@EliteSlayer542 Please elaborate Im trying to justify buying a genesis coupe
get the WRX 265, best bang for the buck out there. it is a 10th of a second slower then the STI for 10k less. according to DSPORT mag.
genesis or 350z?
Jus Like That genesis
I'm a huge american muscle fan, I think this car is cool.
I hate FWD imports; however, i love AWD/RWD imports. call me crazy but that just the way sports cars should be set up.
My GF has a hyundia and it has been NOTHING but reliable. I'd buy this car just for it's price point.
Hyundai just made the most affordable 300 hp sports car in history
no toyota did, and also the toy corrolla may be getting recalled....... ford fusions getting recalled??
@djay102687 thats true man if you tuned the little speed racer it would outrun the lincoln off the line and probably stay well ahead of it too , but..
we're comparing an aluminum bodied sport coupe with a 4000lb piece of luxury american steel with a V8

did anyone ever figure out the song at @3:20
when i was looking for cars i test drove this and was interested (09 edition) but there were like no manual versions anywhere in the country. i called hyundai and there was like 3. i ended up buying the car i wanted from the get go, WRX
i like it and all but i think the grill needs some work
Fantastic car for really fair price tag
@ksearles85 That's actually exactly how you pronounce it. Ask anyone from Hyundai USA.
@iadorei just to let you know, ford never took a single penny of and bill. only chrysler and gmc did that.
Yea i would love to tune this car and start kickin ass, i can imagine haters sayin to themselves "i got beat by a hyundai!?!?"
@asleeperj You so so right man. I own a 97' Buick Riviera and it weighs just a few pounds LESS than the v-6 Camaro not to mention many other cars. The Charger weighs 400 lbs. MORE then my Buick ( which was the flagship model at the time.) @islandsylph i mean you could of gotten a better one for the price

i dont get why people are comparing cars, the more the merrier when it comes to affordable rwd sports cars i say!
Nice review, made me hate hyundai a little less! (I mean that as a very good thing) Also, cute host.
I'd go with the genesis, get the car you love to drive and don't think about your friends. They can drive themselves.
@pansolo80
It's not "lazy American pronunciation". Watch the video where Hyundai challenges the Mini Cooper S to a race and the text says ..."Hyundai, just like Sunday". And that's from the manufacturer themselves...

i wonder how reliable this car will be in the long run...say, 6 years from now.
I would wear my "Yes, you've seen that well" face
Agreed. What happened to sports cars that clocked in under a ton and a half. Geez the new muscle cars are weighing close to my old Lincoln town car, That thing could crash into a panzer and live to tell about it.
How much do you think a used 2009 Hyundai genesis coupe would cost right now?
TheAsadali19 2010 was the firs genesis coupe
Correct, 2009 was the sedan.
About 10 K
@NassguI i felt the same but i test drove the 3.8 Track today and i was seriously surprised. i think its just u gotta give it a test.
if anyone gets a brand new civic si they deserve a slap. this is ten times better
Hells yeah!
*Sniffs, wipes a tear*
Hyundai's all grown up now.
hyuindai is cool they made the tiburons well i have one and its sick! but they replaced them with the genesis not cool but they look almost the same so i wanna buy it but ill keep my sharky!
u gotta admit the bag part was funny...
@GeneralHoohah It is actually 0-60 in 5.3 seconds..... They tested on Motor trend....
hyundai lack popularity b/c its not the charger or camaro or g37 but its better than the 3 i love this car i want and its affordable
although my supercharged lincoln connie v-8 develops over 140 horses more than the 3.8L v-6 this bugger musters
@dasspr they look fast i have a 2.0t jetta i raced a genesis 2.0T i wasnt even trying...it was really easy to get ahead of it
so why wasnt this called the next gen TIBURON?
@NakedSnakeBlGBOSS There are first for all companies dude. This car has awaken a lot of companies since this is their first serious effort. The Tib was meant as a sporty car, but not a pure SPORTS car. You can be sure they will not just stop at this car.... so while Toyota and Subie are co-developing - I am sure Hyundai has more tricks up its sleeve too. WISDOM.
what a bad ass car
