Hey Jono as someone who is just getting into tatooing l, I want to thank you for all the great info your videos provide. I feel like I will be confident enough soon to attempt giving myself a tatoo. Thank you again, you are a great teacher.

Really appreciate how much the quality of your videos has improved! Specially because you include so much quality information instead of just repeating the same generic info that is already out there, I just think the background music at the beginning was a little too loud and distracting, other than that I'm so happy to see how much your videos have improved! Just randomly found your videos and YES! thank you so much!! Incredibly helpful and intuitive. The tip about the amount of ink was super clarifying and very rare to find it explained. Keep up the good work! Cheers
Thanks, I’ve been tattooing 32 years and I’ve learned from you!!! So I haven’t heard you mention it, you may have but if you have excuse the redundancy and my ignorance. The question I have is should you line from the elbow or wrist? Or should the length of the lines determine this? That is …super short lines maneuver the machine with just bending fingers, shirt or medium length lines with wrist, and pull long lines from elbow? And even mix it up for Intricate long lines maybe? I’m just thinking deeper thanks to you, my tattooing has improved since I started using my elbow (pre consciously that is). I don’t even know how I did sobgood over the years but now I’m cognitive of this fact the continuity of solid color in my work has improved so thank you!!! Im humble man you never stop learning, the day I wake up thinking know everything there is to know about tattooing is the day I’ll quit!!!
such a big help thank you. I went ahead and subscribed to your page for more great info. Im just starting out and was wondering what needles I should get to practice with?
Thank you always mate for your very in-depth video. I like your use of animation to show representation of what you're talking about. Definitely helps me grasp the concepts better. I would say the heart of any good coil machine would be the coils themselves do you have any recommendations for replacements. I know I'm mostly see you using pin machines. Thank you Juno
I’ve always used Micky Sharpz coils as these were the first ones I ever owned and have never had an issue with them. Though there’s tons of great machine builders out there so there’s plenty of choices. I’d love to try out a Sunskin machine one day.
Hi Jono! Pleasant surprise to find your content. Please, could you tell me the definition of cycle per second? Do you mean the number of punctures per second? Thanks a lot!
Hi. I’ve just started tattooing and I’m blacking out my bf arm. I’m using 1227rm but it keeps snagging…like the skin is catching and pulling so then I pull out and start again ..I don’t know if it’s because I’m not going too deep or not deep enough etc just wanting some advice please! Thanks in advance !!
Im pretty sure you've got too much needle hanging out the tip. Try reducing your needle depth slightly by turning your grip anti clockwise (if you're using a pen style machine). This should solve your issue. Let me know if you sort it. Thanks for watching!
@@JonoSmithTattoo thanks for the reply! I’m using a wireless stigma atm and if I twist it anticlockwise it leaves a gap. (Looks like it’s not screwed on properly) Is that still safe? Sorry if it sounds dumb lol I’m new to all this shizzzz
@@crystaltaylor4748 A small gap is normal. When running the machine with a needle cartridge inserted, twist the grip antilock wise to reduce how much the needle hangs out the machine.
I love the cartoon illustrations. They add a lighthearted humorous tone. A surprising number of tattoo artists take themselves so deadly seriously that it's comical. But also quite obnoxious. Like they're some kind of superior Chosen One, and you are a lowly and common vulgar clod, unworthy of receiving The Holy Writ which only they posess. That's not helpful. This actually teaches you something real in a fun way. Which is a whole lot better than being looked down upon. And he can shred on that guitar pretty good! 😄
I just had to laugh really hard when the right side showed the exact machine I'm holding right now as a bad example. :D Thanks for the insanely good and thoughtful help, it really is a game changer for me. I have only tattooed some fake skins and am looking for a pen under 400$ that seems decent for absolute beginners. I would like to focus on good and solid line work first, no colors - I don't need one for customers. :) Any ideas? i love you videos ! its the best.... BUT ! i have a question about the tattoo you did at the end! you say to keep a 90 degree angle, but in the video when you make the lines, it looks like you are holding at a 50 - 60 degree angle which you say is bad and can cut the skin, is it the video that makes it look like that or is it me, who misunderstand the whole with 90 degrees ?! sry for my bad eng!
When filming these videos I have to angle the machine more so the camera view isn’t blocked. This is why the angle looks more exaggerated. If I hold it at 90 then all you can see is the top of the machine. Well spotted! Thanks for watching!
