Nice to "meet" you! I saw Delain in 2016 and 2019, so I didn't see you live, but Control the Storm and Nothing Left are 2 of my favorite songs :) I will defintely miss the Delain as I know it but I'm wishing you two and whoever joins you all the best and will be looking forward to your new songs.
Oh man, I am SUPER excited to see Sander back in this and Delain going back to their roots. For me, the best albums were always Lucidity and April Rain. The later albuns were good, and i loved them, but I long once again for the Symphonic Metal days of Lucidity and April Rain. I am SUPER excited to see that Martijn is already working towards a new project and I think Sander being back in this, is exciting!!! Just like there is no Nightwish without Tuomas, there is no Delain without Martijn!!
As much as I adore Martijn’s work, and wish for him to continue whatever project he has been cooking up, still calling it Delain puts a very sour taste in my mouth. It may have begun as a solo project with friends, but Delain has become synonymous with the group of musicians who made up the band. I have considered Delain to be my favorite band for years, but I would much rather the name die than the project to continue as something else entirely-no matter how good that something is.
I think the most important questions are not being asked: Why did you leave Delain? Why did you come back? What part did you play in the disbanding of the band? (which is essentially what happened).
The TL:DR version is that Martijn worked on Delain so much and long, he developed a burnout, which led to changes in his personality. Eventually, the band members finally came up to him, and said to him: "we don't want to tour with you anymore". He tried stepping back from touring, and even licensing out the bandname Delain to the rest of the band so they could continue pretty much without Martijn, but they didn't agree. Eventually he dissolved the band except for himself, as he still holds the license for the band and the name Delain. There's an interview with Martijn on arrowlordsofmetal.nl (it's in English, don't worry), just google Delain interview and you'll find it. Of course, that is only his side of the story, I don't know the side of the rest of the band.
@@TeslaMaster2 the version I heard from the other side was he didn't want to tour anymore. The tried to work something out where he would write but not tour but couldn't come to an agreement, he wanted to make everyone but Charlotte essentially session musicians. It does seem like there was an effort on both sides to work something out but they couldn't come to an agreement. People want ot take sides in these things but there doesn't seem to have been a "bad guy" here.

Why did Martijn want to make them session musicians? I mean he could of just backed off from touring and remain the main writer and ownet of Delain. Otto's statement was also kind of weird. There is something else they're not saying.
Dirty laundry should be left in the hamper. The old Delain is now the new Delain. To mix another metaphor, sometimes we must dig up the old flower bulbs, split them apart and replant them; this way the garden survives and expands. I cannot change what is, but I have no problem to wait and see what grows from here.
i am glad u r gathering people and trying to make music again. but i think u will have a bit of a mess on your hands if u try to pass the band under its old name. it just isn't it with only 1 original member and a different voice.
