  • Life can be seen as a vast spectrum of events and experiences. Every personality is unique and hence it becomes very essential to comprehend techniques to understand the psychological difficulties we face. These difficulties are multifaceted and cannot be thought of or dealt with in dichotomies. So, in order to understand our personality and to help cope with the psychological difficulties, Nupur Dhakephalkar proposes Multi-modal Therapy (MMT) which is arguably the most comprehensive yet elegant approach to psychological therapy ever conceived.
BASIC I.D stands as a useful acronym to understand the seven dimensions of the human psychology and personality. It helps an individual in the fundamental assessment of his/her psychological functioning. It also reflects that every person is unique in nature. That is, despite all people having all seven modalities of the BASIC I.D., no two people are alike in how they experience their psychological life. Indeed, just as all musical compositions can be reduced to the seven notes in the musical scale, no two musical works are exactly the same in spite of them being based on the same fundamental notes. Similarly, while all people have a BASIC I.D., no two people are the same. Nupur carefully explains this fundamental approach proposed by Dr. Arnold Lazarus in the year 1992 and proposes methods of inculcating these habits in our daily life. Nupur Dhakephalkar is a clinical psychologist trained at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, NIMHANS.
