Nice vid George, would say better to rinse with rodi water or old tank water than tap water though to maximize life of the media and minimise risk of adding adding something dodgy, assuming your water is as bad as ours over the pond.
+btripin247 I have to settle with the conditions that college allows to me. I know I don't like rinsing with tap either. It is like 77ppm though so it could be a lot worse.
+CoralFish12g My bad George I hadn't considered you wouldn't be able to set up a ro filter, guess not really possible in dorm situation though, I imagine leaks and stuff wouldn't go down to well!! 77 not so bad, mines 450 plus before it goes through the filter so it doesn't go near my tank
I have a sump, where do i put the carbon reactor? in the same place as the return pump? Or do I cycle the pipe to it goes from the carbon reactor to the return pump then to the tank? Please helpppp
Is this strictly for a saltwater reef aquarium? Could you receive any benefits from this type of filtration in a planted aquarium or just a freshwater aquarium?
Can I put this in my tank if I already have chemi pure elite and matrix ?chemi pure is in my 2nd chamber and matrix in 3rd and water pump and cobalt heater in 1st chamber
Can you do a video about your light schedule for the Radion? I just made the switch over to the Radion and looking for tips about a schedule. I mostly have Zoa's
Nice one! You remind me of myself in college having to caring 5 gallon buckets of waste water to the dorm showers with onlookers wondering what I was doing. Too funny! Never stop reefing!
+neker rivera Hi, so I got it at a convention. I would expect you could get it from CoralVue but I don't see it anywhere online so I don't think you can get it as of now. But I think I may have seen a bigger one at the convention too. I would email Ice Cap and ask them!
+CoralFish12g Ok keep me posted please, and by the way, I've been watching your videos since started, You remind me my 22 years son, He's a marine and he is Iraq right now hunting bad guys.
Can you mix gfo and carbon? And how do you mix them? One on top of another and a sponge in between? And which order? Or do you just completely mix them together and then put them in a single chamber? Please helppp
Revulsion OK I run them both. I mix them together. The carbon keeps the gfo from clumping up. When you mix though you will need to change the mix of gfo and carbon more because the carbon burns out faster than the gfo does.
Revulsion OK -Yes, you can. Look up BRS TV's video on it. You typically need more carbon than GFO, but BRS just dump the two in a bowl at the same time to kinda mix them 50/50. Just remember that you'll be wasting some GFO doing this method since the carbon's efficacy won't last as long as the GFO. So when it's time to toss out the carbon you'll be tossing the GFO along with it. Most people find that the ease and simplicity of mixing the two medias is worth a little bit of GFO waste.
+Tony Goose To be honest, I don't know. I picked it up at MACNA in D.C. and I've tried to find out where to buy them online but I have no idea. I can't find it on the IceCap website or anything.
+Jonathan Sanders Hopefully this thread will answer your question www.reef2reef.com/threads/running-carbon-and-gfo-phosguard-in-the-same-reactor.184505/
+CoralFish12g Its nice to see fellow tank enthusiasts cleaning tanks in dorm rooms and bathrooms. I had to do that for so long it makes me feel less weird doing it. Just be careful the R.A's don't get too suspicious! :)
+Josh Maske Haha yeah I get some interesting looks. And I just saw a sign in the hallway that if its not a 10 gallon fish tank or less now people on the floor are voting if pets are ok. So yeah, I keep it to myself although a lot of the kids on my floor like to poke their heads in to look at my tank every once in a while.
+Sergio Luiz It can, but shouldn't carbon will grind up most phosphate medias (gfo) and like George says you will end up with brown dust all over in your tank. Better to use multiple reactors and carbon also should have a slower flow rate to avoid it grinding itself up.
+CoralFish12g not so good rinsing it in tap water, as tap water contains phosphates, and will reduce the capacity of the gfo. But I guess R.O water is hard to come by at university. just don't rinse it quite so much.
I use Chemi Pure Blue and TLF's GFO right in my HOB on both reef tanks and the difference without it is amazing. Love that stuff
When Can I Use The Biopellet Reactor, GFO N Carbon, Is It During Cycling Or After Going Through The Cycling Process?

Nice video George. GFO is definitely the way to go and a great media to filter your tanks water!
+TheCoralReefTalk Thanks! Yes, it is, and I might even try bio-pellets soon too!
Can you use tap water to clean it

+Nick Walker That might be a good video idea. Hopefully I can fit that in my busy video schedule.
Is this reactor available yet. If not can you recommend a reactor that may fit in the back of a nano?
Nice one! You remind me of myself in college having to caring 5 gallon buckets of waste water to the dorm showers with onlookers wondering what I was doing. Too funny! Never stop reefing!
+Kanoa440 Haha yeah I always get some funny looks but a lot of kids here, or at least on my floor, know about my hobby. Thanks!
can I rinse the gfo in ro/di water instead of tap water?
Yes lol..... why not??
Definitely
Rinse it in some old tank water after doing a water change.
Hi George, where did you get this reactor and is there a bigger version foe bigger tanks?
+neker rivera Hi, so I got it at a convention. I would expect you could get it from CoralVue but I don't see it anywhere online so I don't think you can get it as of now. But I think I may have seen a bigger one at the convention too. I would email Ice Cap and ask them!

+neker rivera I am very thankful for his service. My best wishes go out to you guys.

will something like k1 biomedia work in this?
Yes it will
do you have a link to where you can buy the media reactor?
I just talked to the company recently. The reactor is not for sale yet, apparently it's a prototype. There are many others out just like it!
Can GFO be used on fresh water, planted setups?
Yes it can.
how long after using the gfo did that bit of algae disappear??
+Alberto Amigon A week or two!
should carbon be washed beforehand?
twinturbo111 yes
Yes it should ,,you can use either of the 2 methods mentioned in this video
What position do you play in bball
+faisal shurafa Point guard!
where can i buy ice cap mini reactor
+Tony Goose To be honest, I don't know. I picked it up at MACNA in D.C. and I've tried to find out where to buy them online but I have no idea. I can't find it on the IceCap website or anything.
+CoralFish12g ok thanks
is the 12g your tank size?
Originally yes, but the tank behind me is a 10 gallon tank.
can you run gfo and phosguard in same reactor
+Jonathan Sanders Hopefully this thread will answer your question www.reef2reef.com/threads/running-carbon-and-gfo-phosguard-in-the-same-reactor.184505/
Very well informed although I'm facing Dinoflagellate issue.
+SwirlDip82 Oh I am sorry. There should be video on RUclips to help you with that!
+CoralFish12g lol its ok, so its slowly getting better.

tb aquatics is closed! - where would you suggest?
Zachary Schweter bulk reef supplies
Yes! George your the man!! Thanks.
+TattooCraze InkStudio Glad you liked this one.
Great video like always man!
can a reactor have more than one media?
+Sergio Luiz It can, but shouldn't carbon will grind up most phosphate medias (gfo) and like George says you will end up with brown dust all over in your tank. Better to use multiple reactors and carbon also should have a slower flow rate to avoid it grinding itself up.
+btripin247 thanks
+btripin247 Good advice, thanks for helping Sergio!
No problem, thanks for all the videos George
Nice reactor and vid. You should have used one from the start!!!.
+TheFishTank Doc. Thanks, yes I agree. At least I got it now.

Nice Man!
Thanks that really helps:)
