The servo is holding up excellent, it really does perform pretty well. I wedge it into roots and rocks and drive the rig often, sometimes daily. It’s all stock I just moved the shocks one position and put on some softer Axial 1.9s. Now I’m just going to add weight inside the lower part of the front bumper and on the axle, with some testing a light finger touch let it climb some really steep obstacles, just need a little weight. It will be nearly stock just tires and some weights in the front and quite capable!
I just love this thing, obviously I lucked out on the price, just happy it’s holding up. I want a little better low speed control, any 390 motors you would recommend? Cheers
I have no recommendation for a high turn 390 motor, not a 5-slot 390 motor. I've looked, they just don't seem to be out there. A 540 motor would work, or, if you want to go overboard on low speed control and make this one of the most special rigs you own, try this (select the Revolver V2 380 and the Sidewinder 4 & appropriate connectors for a total of under USD$130): holmeshobbies.com/sensorless-brushless-motor-combo.html
You know, the Pioneer really needed a few things done to improve it. For what this thing is, honestly, just an adapter to fit a higher turn 540 motor and a strong steering servo would be the main things this needs. Then drive it until the wheels fall off. There are some beaut 3.85" tires that might go well with it too. Yeah ok, you've convinced me. I'll get to it!
I was just checking out the other body for this, not sure if it is actually a different version as it is labeled as FD at the end, and they're still using a 6KG servo. The wheels and tires are different as well but not sure if anything else it.
The tires aren't too bad. It's the combination of the rig and the tires that leads to its capabilities - and its not that bad, honestly. This is the negative video. If you watch to the end you'll find the positive video for this rig 😊
Interesting format for the review! I've never seen it before. I wish the algorythm finally figured out the amount of effort and great reviews you make here and put you out there with SBG and the other bigger RC channels! Body looks really good, if only behind those stickers it had no paint on the inside... I always wonder why don't they fit these type of stickers from the inside, allowing you to remove them, be able to see through, and work a bit on the scale looks of the vehicle. I was quite underwhelmed by its performance, but then again your six-problem course is quite demanding. Let's not forget the KnightRunner and MST Discovery didn't do well here, either. Speaking of which, I think it'd be great to have a bit of a ranking table for reference (maybe include some other facts as the tilting angle and other stuff as we commented a few months back, listed at the blog, for quick reference. For my money, I'd definitely get an MST with the "J4" body (also unlicensed, but almost an identical model to the current Jimny). Either the MST CMX or CFX chassis, depending whether you want a mid motor (CMX: cheaper, lower CoG), or a slightly costier, but more scale and detailed gearbox design (planetary gears and all!), and the CFX's layout allows for a deeper interior. I have the CMX and want to get a CFX. I really think you should give these two a try, Craig! even if after all you don't like the performance with the shorter wheelbase, all the MST platforms are quite modular and easy to change for other uses. The build options are endless! You can fit metal driveshafts, metal gears in the CMX gearbox (not recommended), open the diffs (I got my front axle open for more scale behaviour), lengthen the wheelbase up to 267mm (from 242mm) only changing the links, and a miriad of MST option parts. It would be great to have your take on these, especially a comparison between the CMX and CFX from you. Give it a shot, mate!
Thanks for the thoughts on this. I want to do something like you describe as a handy performance ranking along with a few other ideas I have too. That's all coming this year, hopefully. There's a heap to do! I love the MST stuff. Definitely need to get their vehicles here for testing and modding. I've built a set of cmx axles into a 1.9 Mini Comp Rig a few years back for someone and I really liked working with them. Everything was really high quality for the price and I suspect their vehicles would be similarly good quality. Glad you enjoyed these latest vids. I guess the algo will pick things up at some point or another. I'll just keep at it in the meantime :) you guys are worth it already and I'm having fun! Cheers
Have this car.....paid $199 US Better servo, steel, weighted wheels larger softer tires, and slower motor made it great.... It IS 1/10 scale, but it is a Jimny...which is very small.
Sounds like a decent upgrade path you've taken there. Nice one. We have Jimnys getting around here and they are small, yeah. I like that they've kept them pretty small overall just like the old sierra (or samurai in other markets) rather than beefing them up like the new mini compared to the old one!
Hi there mate... Greetings from Spain... Hard fan of your content over here👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Open question... Getting this V3 rgt at same price of v2 (around 130$)... In that case it will be worth it? My goal will be crawling.... In the same line of your already famous 6 problems course 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I have de option to go for same 120/130$ for one or another (v2 same gray as yours or v3 sames as yours)... Which road will be better to take?
Hey thanks - and I appreciate that. V2 probably better for crawling but not by a huge amount and the V3 is vastly better value if they're the same price. Bump up the V3 clearance and put more aggressive tires on it and now you're building something pretty epic
Appreciate the reviews you do. Extremely informative. And your general demeanor and approach to each vehicle along with comparisons I find invaluable to someone that's is looking at getting into the hobby. Unfortunately even the entry level hobby grade stuff costs 75% of my monthly third world salary😭
Thank you kindly. I'm mindful of the disparity in costs and wages and standard of living around the world. I hope you have the opportunity at some point to grab something. If you're looking for a car for the lowest possible cost (at least, new) the WPL C24 with a planetary gearbox upgrade will total about AUD $50, give or take, and can provide many hours of fun with just that one change. I don't know if you have access to some kind of used market, but buying an older rig is how I did it for 20 years or so. Way cheaper than new if you can find local sellers. Reddit, Facebook, etc. - hopefully they're within reach!
I'll watch the other video next but so far this looks like a truck to avoid. Although I saw it recently selling for $240 Canadian ($263 Australian) at a shop which is a little more in line for what you are getting. Off to the next video!
Nice one. I think that's a fair price. I'm going to do a video on it in the next week or two with cheap or free upgrades to improve this thing on the rocks. I bet it has a bit of performance in it yet!
I got mine for $99 on eBay and I luv it. I replaced it with 35gram torque Injora servo on Amazon for $20…it’s amazing …. Most RTR crawler sux so the fun part upgrading it…also that particular crawler is for trail crawling….your course is for more advance lcg crawler so know the limit…it’s like testing a Nissan Sentra at LeMans and expect it to perform..LOL
Hey you got a great deal, that's awesome. I didn't get a great deal and it didn't live up to the price - I have tested most crawlers commercially available here and the performance to money was disappointing. However, there's a partner video to this one, linked at the end. My overall impression of this truck is that it's not bad at all. Has some issues, like most machines, but I like it on the whole. My course is a test ground for all crawlers. This way we can test everything and see how it compares on the same problems. I don't need it to perform, I just need to be consistent - then we can all see how they compare. Hopefully this is a useful resource for people! That's the idea anyway. Cheers for dropping by :)
@@RCTNT Good review dude no worries. The lighting and motor and esc awesome you can definitely do slow crawl out of the box and it has good articulation which you mentioned and hard body scale stuff. It’s all good we have different standards and interpretations so no worries! Cheers!
Right around $200 0n Amazon, the Pioneer is a way better truck around $325. Still better off with an Axial, Element, or Gen8 around the same price point because of parts availability.
RGT is pretty good on parts, I've found. What in particular can't you get for this one? And where are you in the world? It'd be good to know so I can reference that in future videos. Thanks!
@@RCTNT I'm in the USA. Back when I had an RGT Bowler and stripped out the diffs I found Redcat Everest 16 diffs fit right in and were all metal. The thing is for the price of the RGT in the USA you can very nearly get an Element, Axial, TRX4 sport with pretty much unlimited parts support. For the price of an Axial clone by RGT you can get the Redcat Gen8 and be far better off right out of the box. The price of the Pioneer for me to buy off ebay or Amazon makes zero sense when I can buy a TRX4 Sport or Axial Basecamp SCX10.3 that is simply next level to RGT. An 86100 runs right around the same as the Element Gatekeepr, Axial SCX10.2 Deadbolt/Honcho. I love the reviews you do, don't get that wrong! It's just for me in the USA with Traxxas/Axial/Element stuff in most every hobby shop it's not a real wise idea to buy a crawler nobody local has parts for.
Cheers
Have this car.....paid $199 US
Better servo, steel, weighted wheels larger softer tires, and slower motor made it great....
Great vid. i have the pioneer which is known ftx outback Hi Rock its good👍
Thanks, the Pioneer is great too. We've done quite a bit with it on the channel here :)
Hi there mate... Greetings from Spain... Hard fan of your content over here👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Open question... Getting this V3 rgt at same price of v2 (around 130$)... In that case it will be worth it?
My goal will be crawling.... In the same line of your already famous 6 problems course 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I have de option to go for same 120/130$ for one or another (v2 same gray as yours or v3 sames as yours)...
We got off to a rocky start, me and this truck. But I think there's potential for it to be better. We'll see!
I paid 180$ USD for V3 last year and even got 20$ refund for servo malfunction. Without spare wheel attached it is ok.
Nice one. I think that's a fair price.
I'm going to do a video on it in the next week or two with cheap or free upgrades to improve this thing on the rocks. I bet it has a bit of performance in it yet!
@@RCTNT yes please!
Sure looks good though! Thank you for another fun and informative, thorough *RC-TNT* review, enjoyed boss!
No worries at all! It's a great little truck, all said. Has some issues but yeah, not bad :)
I managed to pickup 3 of these for my boys for $85 each.
Wow really? That's unbelievable. Awesome!
@@RCTNT Yeah. They normally go for $200 on ebay in the US but I guess the seller was dumping them.
@@mdgeist472 his/her loss was your gain. Amazing find!
Hello from southeast Alaska
Hello from southeast Australia
Cheers!
I'd like it to be slower but it's pretty good - my boy likes driving this one when we wheel together so that's a winner in my book!
I enjoyed seeing you, good work👍😁🤝
I enjoyed reading your comment :) cheers
@@RCTNT 👍🎶🤝
It made sense when the RGT Bowler was $129 shipped to me, but anything $300 and over it makes no sense.
@@carterhart5435 got it, that's quality info. Thanks for taking the time to explain that! Good to have your perspective, especially as most of my audience is in the USA! Appreciate it :)
So.......... which video is your opinion?
I'm disappointed but hopeful, I think. We can eke some more performance from this thing. I cover a few of the finer points here, too, if you're interested: rc-tnt.com/rc-crawler-reviews/rgt-136100v3-rock-cruiser-rc-4-v3/
Thanks for watching :)
you can get them for 250 au
That's a great deal for this one. At that price it's an excellent choice.
Can u do the rgt boxer please
Happy to consider it - but I can't find that model. Do you have their EX86... number? Maybe I can find it that way. Thanks
@@RCTNT its the hsp/rgt 94706
Ah right! The closest RGT to that is probably the RGT Rock Cruiser V3, either the RC3: ruclips.net/video/Psj6Pwm7ZQA/видео.html
Or the RC4: ruclips.net/video/4kGbux2WU_0/видео.html
@@RCTNT i think the boxer is a bit more like the pioneer since it is longer and uses different parts :) i would deeply appreciate you giving it a run on the 6 problems. Cheers
Fair point. Ok, I've found the HSP Boxer and the Boxer Pro in Australia. Which were you interested in checking out?
The Boxer is about AUD$300 and the Pro is AUD$400.
can you just buy the body?
Not sure. Look on RGT's website, maybe it'll have its own part number.
Wow.. lol. The truck is fine. Box stock cheap rtrs are never as good as this thing is. For 180$usd you sure had high expectations. Add a 20$ servo and a 50$ set of wheels and tires.
Thanks Mike. If you missed it, this is a two part review and you've just seen the negative side. Don't miss the other one!
I think I had reasonable expectations, though. I tried to explain my thinking throughout but I also readily admit we're spoiled these days by just having amazing rigs for less money than ever before! Cheers
So many good things, but so many bad, and weird things!! And that price!!! It looks great, I love that colour, but A$400!!!! You've got to be kidding!!! 🤷🏻♂️
Apparently it isn't that much elsewhere - and remember, I paid $319 so others must surely be able to do the same with a bit of looking (I've heard in the comments that some can find it for under A$300, which is a much better value proposition).
I think we can make it better with minimal cost, so we'll get to that soon.
@@RCTNT with the top heavy body, it's never going to be as good as the Pioneer, but it does look good.
I've just finished rebuilding my Carisma Sca1e Coyote, and put another ISDT ESC70 speed controller in it. It's so smooth and quiet now. I can't wait to get out on the trails with it. 👍🏻
@@roblowrie1969 I'm looking forward to finding out how far we can go with it. Glad you're enjoying your Carisma, I'm looking forward to getting one on the channel here too :)
@@RCTNT I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the great content. 👍🏻
I found a bargain on eBay last week. I picked up 2 brand new FTX Paso (same as this RGT), missing bodies, for £140!!! Problem is, buying a stock body, with all the fittings is about £100, so I'm looking for one of 2 things. An alternative body to fit the 255mm wheelbase (rarer than unicorn 💩), or extending the wheelbase to open the choices!
Of even, using the parts, and putting everything onto a longer set of FTX chassis rails, and make it longer?!! 🤷🏻♂️
Why don't you drive it.
It does get used. You've gotta watch to the end, there's a flip side to this video. I published it at the same time.
Such a disappointment. Thanks for the review.
Don't miss the other video! It's linked at the end of this one. Gives the other side of the coin to this one!
(Spoiler: it isn't all bad, not at all. There's an article to go with it all too, that's here: rc-tnt.com/rc-crawler-reviews/rgt-136100v3-rock-cruiser-rc-4-v3/ ). Thanks for watching, Dave.
Well it's not a rock crawler duhh!
What would you class it as? Crawlers typically have at least some of these: high-turn motor, low gearing, locked diffs, live axles, 4 link suspension, servo on axle steering, bead lock wheels, sticky tires.
This one checks all those boxes...
(Also, if you watch the last half minute of this video you'll see I get to the other side of the coin.)
Bad rc driver 🤣😂🤭
Thanks, and you :)
