- Well, we didn't exactly have a paint booth...but then again we didn't really have a painter either! Watch as we transform Project Daily Driver from a 20 Footer into a solid 15 Footer...even better if you squint!
"Hey Tony, what's that in the paint?"
Tony: "Oh, some ash from my cigarette flew into the paint."
"You were smoking while painting??"
Tony: "What are you, a Californian?"
The ash is custom metal flake!
it's a Tony-Flake job!
😂😂😂
Old house painter used to swear ash in his paint kept spiders away lol
🤣😂🤣😂
Respirator? Smoking while painting. Sweating on car. Hose drug through paint. Tony you keep it real! Terrific!
man those paint fumes did wonders for your anxiety
Lmfao.....ya know....I didn’t even notice that but it’s true
Probably safer the nicotine

I like the way you were filtering the paint fumes through your cigarette butt lol
That's freaking awesome
Underrated comment🤣
I used to occasionally visit Tony when he lived in New York, and i dont think i ever saw him without a cigarette...
LOL
Uncle Tony staying safe with the combustible cylindrical respirator, OSHA is pleased
Catalyzed paint can lock up your lungs in one spray job. Any atomized chemicals are bad though. Tony is an idiot here. Old timer tough guys look so dumb with an oxygen tube up their nose. Tony is directly gambling with COPD and Athsma here. I spray. Lifetime Devilbiss man. From a JGA502 up to a GTI.
@@hyperluminalreality1 Don't do as I do, wear an approved breathing mask.
The carcinogens from his cigarette will fend off all of those nasty chemicals, lol.Serious note, he should have had a respirator on.
Uncle Tony reminds me of all the people I learned how to work on cars growing up. I remember one time I was helping my friend's dad who was a great mechanic, he was under a car changing a gas tank and had his arms covered in gasoline and grease all with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.
Should have had masks on and a sweat band
lmao, you broke every painting rule there is and you shared it on RUclips, that gives me hope for me finishing the paint on my 71Dart
Care to share those broken rules?
@@rpmfoto well for starters you don't use Windex as a prep wash for panels lol
Actually I use wax and grease remover then Pre painting prep followed by spray way glass cleaner & then hit it with a tack rag & a blow gun. Glass cleaner is good for us at home guys
Jon wax and grease remover is the best option. I’ve always used that and a rag, then after it dries hit it with a tack cloth.
Also, when painting in a shop that doesn’t have a ventilation system, one should definitely consider a mask or respirator. And it wouldn’t hurt to have wet down the floor to keep any dust from kicking up
@@LgSutterby he wasn't shooting for perfection he basically just wants it to shine and all be one color
Most important step to painting a car is bring handcuffs and handcuff yourself to a tree for one hour after every coat so you do not touch the car or the paint gun

Maybe he should name his car "Spinning Wheel". . . . . .
@Shelly B. Or he can do what he wants

Who needs a respirator when you've got a healthy supply of cigarettes on hand? That smile when it's all done is priceless! Great video, real world paint and body which most of us can actually relate to.
Rite why folks fussing abt respiratory?? Tony has both doors open plus a filtered cigarette n his mouth!!!
My daddy ran a body shop for 51 years. And was locally considered the best around. The joy I saw you have while painting,, regardless of your skill level reminded me of the joy I saw in him each and every day. It look fine for a daily driver car. You will have fun cruising on the boulevard.
this whole series is a testament as to why you should take a paint and body to a pro. when Uncle Tony tells someone " hey you'd never guess right, but I did the paint and body on this car myself".... 99 out of 100 people are thinking "yeah it pretty much looks that way". the other 1 percent think its a grade 10 shop project.

I just love that dual scoop hood
Yea, they were called Raisin Brand hoods back in the day.😎
Looks great Uncle Tony! I’ve done the same thing over the years, with sweat dripping and dragging the hose through the paint. I’ve been a GM/Chrysler tech for 25 years and I’ve become friends with various body guys over the years. I’ve learned a bit from every guy. One good thing to do is wet the floor, so you don’t kick up dust. I get super nervous like you , but when I start I have fun also. I get scared because if I mess up, the paint is expensive and I want it to look somewhat presentable.
Like my railroad buddy used to say, "it's good enough for who it's for."
My uncle would away say good enough for the girls l run around with

I think it looks good and just like you said. This is fun
Thanks for the video Tony
Started the body work on my 73 cuda and I am dreading the paint. All the hard work takes place before the paint. That’s the fun part.
I am very anxious about the paint but after seeing this I am a little less anxious.
You painted it like a lawn mower. And you got high on your own supply. Good job! :D

I know how hot it is there. My cousin lives in Murfreesboro. Can’t imagine spraying in that kinda heat! Be drying before it hits the panel!

"how many sides of a car can you look at at once?" - my old man
I was told that about my second day of my first job in a professional body shop in 1971! You can only see one side of the car at a time!, My last two cars that I purchased a couple months ago, A 75 Torino Elite and a 77 Dodge Monaco coupe both had remote left mirrors with no right hand mirror so I found the closest match I had for each one and nobody knows but me! Uh and all of you guys now!
I can't wait to see the finished product. I learned a lot from this video! Thanks! Good job!
My uncle Joe would paint cars outside after wetting the ground.
My father in law did that too back some 30 years ago. Did this Chevy Van in metallic gold, turned out great. Except a fly landed right in the middle of the giant side panel above the rear wheel and left a dime size blemish you could see from 10 feet away. hahahaha he was so mad, but said screw it.
Yes I get parts from this junk yard n flat lick Kentucky they hav a shed with gravel floor spray ground with hose also!! I've seen some of their paint jobs and it blows my mind of how great of job they can do with what they hav to do with!! Hill Billy's can do ny thing, I've seen em do it!!!
Hope it cures evenly as you didn’t mix it well. When you test the gun test the pattern with a single stationary shot not a long sweeping stroke. And why did you use a car to test the gun on? Should use paper taped to the wall.

Yep. I’ve got a built not bought sticker on the back of my pickup, it’s darn sure not perfect and it’s painted in the driveway but I built the whole thing one end to the other, and that’s something I’m proud of. Even if it’ll never win best in show
I painted four cars in my life and a couple boats- the last job I did I took one bay of my garage, tented it off with plastic, a box fan sucking out in the back window and built a frame of 1x2 wood over the door opening with furnace filters- worked better than just shooting it in the back yard.
Man, they jam my mailbox with ads on newsprint paper around here.
Every Friday we get some coupon saver /ads /specials on the local places that's on newsprint and about as thick as an average magazine.
I'm always using them for placemats for dinner or laying parts on to paint.
I usually paint parts after I've ran them thru the dishwasher when the wife isn't looking.
I hold onto all the flyers just so I have masking paper when I need it . It's handy to have a stack around the shop....
House of kolor has a great instructional video of the whole process. He doesn't miss a thing and it's a good watch.
Cool last name deorman
We always had the 3 Mississippi drip method with mixing car paint. Get it thin enough where it runs off the stirring stick for 3 seconds before it becomes a drip.. much easier than deciphering hieroglyphs on a mixing bucket I think.
Those mixing cups are so incredibly easy to read and use, but all the numbers on them make people run.
What you're referring to is adding reducer to thin it out. Always add the correct amount of hardener (or activator) and never reduce more than 10%. Most mixing cups have that 10% scale on them, but it's in the 3rd column of each scale.
How high were you? No judgement, just curious. 5 min in the mix shack and I'm stoned.
High enough he still hasn't come down, 12hrs later.
Pretty much my first couple of paint jobs were done very much like this shop doors open newspaper to mask cheap enamel in the gun got it done. Been buying equipment and upgrading the setup since. Used to get the same nervous rush when the paint went in the gun too... cheers tony
where is your dam respirator????

PUT A RESPIRATOR ON TONY!
It's okay, the even layers of tar and nicotine protected his lungs lol.
The acrylic enamel 2:53 he's using doesn't seem to be creating much fog. Some paints would fog the entire garage, even with the door open. I'd rather do a few Tony no respirator jobs here and there, versus paint regularly with forced ventilation and a respirator.
It's okay his lungs are asbestoses coated for protection! 😁😂😎

Masking paper is dirt cheap!
@aaron anderson I didn't know anybody read a newspaper anymore. If I wanted to be lied to i'd just call my ex-wife. I cancelled my prescription 20 years ago as soon as I got my first home computer. How many cars have you painted? Dust is the enemy of a good paints job and newspaper sheds a lot of small particles that can cause "fish eyes".
... and for anyone wanting to tackle a paint job or two, not only is masking paper best (and not expensive), but a nice masking paper machine will get you spoiled for every future masking job you undertake. Like having a best friend right at your side handing you just the right length, already taped on one edge..
It all depends on how much junk you want hanging around after your current project is finished.
@aaron anderson All that hostility? I just misunderstand your comment. I've used newspaper for mashing windows too in the past. My local newspaper does't provide any actual news and about all it's good for is putting in the bottom of my kitchen garbage can.
