    The micrometer slide is nice.
    The way it is to be used otherwise is that the lower knurled wheel is a reference stop, not a locking knob.
    You grind the first flute , adjust the rear stop. This then gives the amount of travel for the second flute.

    That's the first time Ive seen the lower adjustment and it seems eminently sensible to me. I have tried these sharpeners and they are OK but I can see how that adjustment would help no end. Having said that have you tried anything but the standard 108 degrees, I have tried to do sharper points and I cant get any sense out of it. Thanks for sharing

    Never use the side of a grinding wheel for any grinding operation. Period!

    • @pieterbotes8938
      @pieterbotes8938 4 года назад +1

      It's all about safety. A grinding wheel was never intended for grinding operations on the side of the wheel because grinding from the side decreases the thickness of the wheel and can influence it's balance. How is anybody going to dress the side of the wheel if it's out of balance without decreasing the thickness even more? Have you seen a wheel disintegrating at high speed?

    • @campbellmorrison8540
      @campbellmorrison8540 3 года назад +1

      @@pieterbotes8938 I have heard this but never understood why. Trouble is in this case the sharpener wouldn't work as its grinding the tip against a curve? Having said that Im sure Ive seen lathe and mill tool grinders that use the side of the wheel?

      @pieterbotes8938 3 года назад +2

      @@campbellmorrison8540 Brother, people will sell anything to you (especially the Chinese - they copy absolutely everything) irrespective of safety aspects. Anyway, there are different types of grinding wheels and they all have their specific use. For instance, you get a cup wheel and a normal wheel for a bench grinder. Both are used for a different purposes, but it was designed to be used in a specific way. It's obviously your personal choice how you use it. If something goes wrong and you get hurt, you can only blame yourself.

      After adding a micrometer. grinding drill effect is very good, but always produce a circular arc pit on the stone, always need wash the stone, so I add a small slide at the bottom, in order to grind in different positions of the stone, it should be Will reduce the number of stone washings.
