When you've had eggs laid in the zoo and don't find them right away, I've wondered what would happen if they were just left in the enclosure. I think they'll do just fine in the enclosure and you'll have an even hatch rate between the two.
I'm 100% here for the experiment because I imagine a lot of herp owners have enclosures and no incubators, and this will at least show whether they have a shot being kept in an enclosure. Also it will let you guys know if this is a reliable safety net for future situations like an incubator outright breaking.
Yeah. Although my own solution to incubating without an incubator is a box in a box where the layer of air in between works as a heat insulation and the smaller box is filled halfway with water with a fish tank heater set to 37°C and eggs are in the 3rd smallest box, suspended in the warm humid air. 3 weeks in and they look beautiful, no changes in shells, and the other day i even saw a tail movement while candling them

My hypothesis is if you split the clutch in half, the half that is in the incubator will hatch faster than the enclosure half and both will have an equal successful hatch rate
This is also what I think, either the incubators egg hatch faster and they have equal success rate or the incubator eggs have slightly higher hatch success rate. But I lean on the first one since it is a controlled environment

What exactly is double clutching, how does it happen? Do more eggs develop after mom lays all the first clutch? I know they can retain sperm for a long time, is that how those get fertilized if they aren't paired? And it sounds like some snake may be prone to it? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just so curious!
„On the other side, some snakes you just can't stop double clutching, they will retain the sperm, and lay a 2nd clutch of eggs, whatever you do - this is natural, and most breeders learn which of their females are more prone to double clutching than others.“ So yes, I believe it’s just the mom having another clutch from retained sperm!
@raverm but from what Emily mentioned in the video it sounds like after Shakira laid the first egg, she got paired again with Mr SYG in order to ensure the second clutch will be fertilized. So it might not be retained sperm

omg we should be getting hatching videos soon, You guys have done so much and it has been so fun watching every set of this journey. can't wait to see all the babies hatch.
You would have been proud of me today. One of our dogs started barking at something in the room near the kitchen. But my wife didn't see anything. The one of the other dogs stuck her nose behind a door then jumped. We slowly moved the door and climbing up the wall was a young black snake (we live in western NC and they are very common here). It moved to the edge of the roo where the hinges were so getting it out was difficult. But I did it! I used a small towel, grabbed it near its head, and quickly walked through the house and put it outside. Once outside, I confirmed it was a juvenile black racer! It was quite long (probably 2') but thin. It had no stripe so I'm certain it was not a garter snake. It didn't have a ring near its head so not a ringneck (I've seen some very black ones here). It's back was gray with black patterns. I held was able to hold a snake, knew to watch its head, knew how to identify, and knew it was just a regular noodle and not spicy. All because of you! I wish I had thought to take photos but I didn't want the dogs to get close. We didn't see any blood on the white door nor was there any on the towel. We think it came in by itself vs the damn cat doing it. It's probably telling its fam about its weird day.

@@SHENworks Also a Gemini! We need a club!
@@SHENworks Ha ha!! I'm not a Gemini, but I see what you did there!!!
Technically the eggs are Gemini too (not the snakes since they haven't hatched yet) since they were layed on 6/6, so I guess that makes 15 of y'all :D
Im a scorpio 👍
I loved that intro lol spoke to Emily's true nature.
I cannot WAIT for the hatching videos 😆
I’m a Virgo! It’s amazing to watch this
Ed: hosted by…….

Ed: maybe ill host this one
Also...YAY!! FOR MAKING SOME PROGRESS ON THE POP MACHINE INCUBATOR! 👍👍👍
4:23 I hope that egg that rolled a lot is okay.
I saw that too and it made me anxious
she said they were just laid that day so it should be fine. it takes 24 hours or so for it to actually matter.
I imagine that you hear a lot of stuff hitting the ground at the zoo with some variation of "this is in the way" or "get rid of that". I'd like to see if they would still have a good hatch rate in the enclosure.
A good experiment for people who have enclosures but not incubators.
I dunno, Shakira's enclosure seems big enought but i can't say the same for whoever feels like breeding at home.
I love Ed and Emily 🥰 we all know they are the best kinds of nerds!
Did anyone else hear the Fruits Basket reference? Or the Pokémon? Tauros instead of Taurus ♉ 😁🤣
So excited to see baby videos again! It's been so long
The real Shakira: Sentenced to 8 years of prison
This Shakira: Scaly, feisty but a cute bullsnake.
Not sentenced yet. Still has to go to trial lol
I thought rich people dont go to prison
@@edwardhisse2687 People who commit alleged tax fraud like her that's who.
Funny that everyone thinks it looks like water when Aquarius is an air sign 😅 but yay more babies!! Can't wait for hatching videos!!
okay, so now snake discovery is never going to run out of hatching videos, right? They are all set for content for a while lol
I love how Ed referenced fruits basket with year of the cat. My favorite anime/manga, not to mention but I SCREAMED wit joy
We actually did this experiment with an incubator but the chicken eggs and when we regulated the temp to 1 temperature we had almost all the eggs hatch but when it fluctuated temp and humidity we had 1 egg hatch out oh like 3 different times so we don’t fluctuate things anymore but this is chickens not snakes so i am excited to see what happens
Don't chicken eggs have to be rolled every now and then? 🤔
omg we should be getting hatching videos soon, You guys have done so much and it has been so fun watching every set of this journey. can't wait to see all the babies hatch.
This could also be a Homestuck clutch because the signs on the trolls shirts are the zodiac signs
was looking for someone to mention homestuck lol
Aquarius is actually an air sign! Wind ! ♒ happy double clutches 🥰
Wow! I can already tell those babies are going to be beautiful!
I hate that I memorized the entire zodiac because of homestuck
I’m terrified of snakes - but I have been binge watching your videos for over a week.
