  • The Dallas Mavericks' 2011 season was considered one of the best title runs and the least expected champions in the NBA history. Before defying this impossible feat, they were a playoff contending team for a lot of years that cannot find post-season success. They won 50 straight regular season games for 11 straight years, but most of their season exited prematurely. After a lot of upsets and disappointments, fans and media began to criticize the legacy of Mavs' superstar Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas.

    I like how you put Kidd at the forefront next to Dirk as the leaders of the team. Obviously Dirk was the MVP of that team, but for me, Jason Kidd was the next biggest reason that Dallas won that title. Dude played clutch af, on both ends of the floor! You could argue that the biggest and most clutch shots in both the Western Conference Finals and the Finals were Jason Kidd dagger three's. And the defense both Kidd and Marion were playing in crunch time was stifling. LeBron was held under 18ppg in the Finals!
    The great thing about that 2011 team, is that *every single man* on that roster truly earned their share of that championship! Even the contributions of Brian Cardinal should not be forgotten!
    People often look at that team as being carried by Dirk, and at times that was definitely true, but his teammates collectively carried him just as often. People remember 2011 as Dirk and his underdog Mavs team upsetting a "Super Team", but in my opinion *the Mavericks were the real super team* ! Top to bottom that Dallas team had far more talent than Miami... Honestly the Mavs didn't even play very good for most of the Finals, if they had played closer to their capabilities, then it would've been a sweep... Miami didn't have enough scoring to keep up with Dallas in a series.

    • @jaywarvz
      @jaywarvz  3 года назад +3

      Indeed man! The 2011 Mavs were full of veterans, talent and experience!

    • @imdbtruth
      @imdbtruth 3 года назад +5

      Plus I was 12 years old and a die hard Mavs fan when they drafted Jason Kidd back in 1994.... And for them to trade him away less than three seasons after drafting him, it hurt so bad! The Mavericks were *terrible* prior to Kidd's arrival, and suddenly we had the Rookie of the Year, and the guy who led the NBA in Triple-Doubles, basically it was almost like what the Mavericks have today in Luka Doncic... You could see early on in Kidd's career that you were definitely watching a future Hall of Fame player! And then to have them trade Kidd away just days after Christmas in 1996, in exchange for a role player, it was a real kick to the nuts! Imagine the Mavericks doing that today, trading away Luka Doncic in exchange for De'Andre Hunter or some shit...
      Kidd never even had time to bring the fans back in Dallas, so there's a ton of people who claim to have been Mavs fans since the early days of Dirk and Nash, but almost nobody talks about being a Mavericks fan during Jason Kidd's first stint in Dallas. However if you were a Mavericks fan back then, then you know what a huge impact Jason Kidd had on the hapless Mavericks. If you were a fan back then, then you remember the 1995 OT game against Houston, when Kidd showed he was a special level of clutch, and also put up a Doncic-like stat-line. ruclips.net/video/TOWI-Md5kmo/видео.html
      Or you remember the night in 1996 when Kidd out-dueled Stockton and Malone, making a statement by setting the NBA record for Assists in a single game with 25.

Also, Tyson Chandler ur right that was an absolute steal I have no clue how we pulled that off lol. Caron Butler was past his prime too so it was easier to acquire him. Overall though I would say a lot of this had to with Mark Cuban because he is really really aggressive in the trade market.

    • @armin38822
      @armin38822 3 года назад

      @@saadatkazi1536 Past his prime sure but definetly better than what Mavs gave out. Marion was always one of the most versatile players and even at that point he still had a lot left in him. Butler before gettint to the Mavs was avereging 17 points with the Wizards. In his prime he was at 20. So not that far off. I would say these trades were more becasue of Donnie Nelson and Cuban is just the one who gives out a check.

      Personally, I feel like the 2011 team was better without Butler, and it's hard to argue against me considering the end result. I watched every game that season, and while Butler could score some, the offense didn't flow as good with him out there.
      Brendan Haywood was really the key acquisition in that trade imo... Mavs were able to climb the mountain without Butler, and everybody always remembers Chandler, but most people forget what a huge advantage Dallas had by being able to bring a starting quality Center like Haywood off of their bench. That 2011 team was so deep and stacked with scoring ability from top to bottom.

    They were he underdog Champs in 2011, undeniable, but they were favored to beat the Heat in 2006? Let's get real, on the bench, it was Riley vs. Johnson, it was no contest. Johnson was an upstart, whose finals run here was his high watermark. Riley was a coaching giant, easily could find ways out.
    Heat had Shaq, sure, he was a spent force. But his presence and leadership deliver more intangibles to propell the team far more than Dirk ever could.
    And then there was Dwyane Wade, the sparkplug who already made a na,e for himself in his rookie season. Even if he didn't have as productive a season as Dirk Norvinski, guys like him can dial it way up when it's on the line.
    Even if Mavs owned the regular season head to head matches, playoffs arevs different matter.
