The first 3 albums are the equivalent of Darkthone's unholy trilogy: "Bathory" "The return..." "Under the sign of..." And nothing in bathory's catalouge compares to them in my opinion!!! For me personally the albums that stand out from the Viking era are "Hammerheart" "Twilight of the gods" Honorable mention "Blood Fire Death" (some viking ideas but still black metal for the most like the first trilogy) "Blood on Ice" (very good album with viking vibes from start to finish but still raging and brilliant!!!)
Bathory didn't invent black metal, but it improved it to the format that was world-wide by dozens of bands in the 80's after Slayer in 1983. In 1984 in the first wave of black metal, Bathory was the band that was ahead of all, the bands that emerged from August 1984 onwards by accessing the Scandinavian Metal Attack compilation and marveling at the complete album released in October of the same year. Years later it was the first band to give the world the theme "Viking metal", as other bands even addressed the subject, but not so deeply with Bathory. It's a shame Quorthon passed away in 2004, because if he were alive today, we would certainly have excellent material available. Greetings from Brazil!
Nordland I and II are my favorite Bathory albums. They obviously aren't as influential as Hammerheart or their black metal stuff, but as cohesive albums, start-to-finish, they are my favorites. Nordland really evokes a sense of adventure. An epic tale. They are really excellent "while doing something" albums like hiking or driving or drawing, or something you just want to put the album on and let it go. *5 stars* ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@blairjohnston5685I know right!?... And apparently he was hinting at dropping another pure black metal album in the very near future, kills me we never got to hear what that would've been ....
@@shaunshuping5406 yes absolutely. I felt he was only getting started. His song writing talents were starting to peak & I think another pure black metal release would have blown minds & found even more fans. It saddens me that his passing almost felt unnoticed. It was a huge loss & metal lost one of its greatest contributors. Watain brought me much joy wen they played some songs live. Made my night👹🤘
This moment is Forever. : ,,Spring is here and the ice breaks free The endless sky and open sea I will sail where the Raven will lead me Fly on black wings, high and free I shall return with the wind the day From high adventures, swelling sail Autumn red comes to Asa bay"
EVEN REGRETTING THE LOSS OF SUCH A VIRTUOUS HUMAN BEING, EXCEPT FOR QUORTHON WHO EVEN STOPPING PHYSICALLY EXISTING HIS TIMELESS WORK WILL LAST FOREVER.
I remember ordering this album on Amazon in 2004. I didn't even know Q had died. It was a truly surreal experience for the first time in my metal career getting to hear a brand new Bathory release, and then finding out there was infact a Nordland II to follow my enjoyment of I. The funny thing is, when I found out Q had passed - it didn't hurt. I was so proud of how far his career had gone in such a short time, and I was so grateful for the experience of enjoying this album, that I couldn't help but feel at peace with the news. Thank you, Quorthon.
The word "genius" gets overused these days. Except for Quorthon, for whom it is not used enough. His death leaves a void that no one else has the genius to fill. It's taken me 18 years to get this far: instead of looking at the void, and cursing the Lord of Death, look at the world. The gods looked down at this benighted mortal realm and said: "they have received more of Quorthon's gifts than they deserved. Time to call our brother home to halls on high".
The apex of Bathory career.Excellent production, coldness atmosphere and breathtaking landscape surrounded where music emerges from. As it gains Nordic and epic form to be comtempled by splendidly gorgeous enchantment.
I think Nordland I & II would make a good soundtrack for Vinland Saga. The atmosphere, the lyrics, and the theme is literally perfect. Might read the manga while listening to the albums
Moreso the other way around. Black rose immortal was released in 1996 and this album is from 2002. Really good ear though, its a nice homage to another great band!
Power from Hyperborean , Northern Sky ✨
Isso é muito bom!! Super autêntico!! Dá vontade de mergulhar nas sombras geladas do mundo nórdico e passar o dia ouvindo isso.

Still no one played such heart-tearing guitar solos than Quorthon did. You can recognize His style from miles. Eternally missed Quorthon!
Passion and heart put into music and vocals, powerful album of unmatched beauty.

RING OF FIRE!!!
massive classic tone. love it
What a wild trajectory this band went on from beginning to end. Black Thrash > Power Viking metal. Absolutely mind blowing.
It's not a band
They realized the antithesis to Christianity is not satanism, but their native gods
