I've had the pentagon xr lte for a few months and this knife does it ALL I LOVE IT!
Favorite knife ever! Want every color! Want for self defense with ability to also do daily tasks! Fits my needs perfectly
Ahh I love snow. We are currently raining ashes from the wildfire. Hello from WA.
The Sog Tac-XR is pretty sweet for the price and being manual.
Thanx for the review. For this knid of money, the Ritter Hogue is light years ahead.
Nice review Aaron. Thanks. It's an attractive blade to me. I bought a fixed blade Pentagon at a show in Tualitan, WA in 82 from Jeff Loffer, the owner of the Cutlery Shoppe, then in Boise. That Pentagon came with a leather boot knife sheath with a thumb break. Jeff showed me a kydex sheath for it, they'd made at his shoppe. I liked it. So I paid for both and he mailed me the Pentagon and custom kydex about a week later. It ended up being my vehicle knife. ... I've read CTS XHP is considered by some to be a stainless D2, or a 440C with better edge holding. ... Thanks again for the review Aaron. I always learn something from every one.
I have the Seal XR & it's amazing !!
I had the pentagon elite for almost 10 years, loved that knife, it pryed, used it ss a hammer, just beat the absolute crap out of it, and it took it all like a champ. I lost it in the woods last year, I'm very excited they made a new version. Thank you for the review.
You wouldn't have lost it if you didn't use a defensive weapon as a prybar. hammer, screwdriver, and everything else it was not designed to do.
You're lucky to live in the snow, here in California it's sunny and on fire pretty much all day
Price is right for that knife, but the issue is that at that price point, there are some other amazing choices.
Reprofile the edge to 17 degrees, it'll eat the cardboard and ask for seconds. The tip reground to a Tanto would be a good project. I've had my eye on this one. Do I need it? No... but I want it Cuz Merica
"Tanto" is not a tip design. That is ignorant Americans bastardizing a term. A Tanto is the shortest of the three blades that were worn by samurai (daisho). The "tip" has nothing to do with it. A tanto is a descriptor for a type of knife, and its use, and many different tips designs were made. In fact, when Cold Steel released their "Tanto" in the 80s that is when the stupidity started. Very few Japanese tanto even used that type 45 degree angle type of kissaki (tip).
Merry Christmas brother. LOL definitely keeping this on my list. Stay safe.!
Bought one as soon as I saw it on you tube. Love it! Like the lock system better than my Osborne 940 axis lock.
thats a bold statement my man , i just came back from amsterdam, my man, they have the best osbornes(heroin) . jokes aside you7 think its better. i lovre ym osbornes but hey im willing to try it out
Your opinion matches mine about the XR lock being better than the axis. I have not broken either one, but the omega spring t hat Benchmade uses has certainly goten a lot of bad press.
I'm above you in Alberta Canada, we also got snow this weekend! Thanks for the review, its a cool looking knife!
Calgary is the best city on planet earth 🤠🙏
Seriously love this channel. Awesome dude and awesome gear.
It's a def. Military self-defense BLADE!!!.. I love the SEAL XR GREAT knife.. These New SOGs are a definite GO 2.. For me. Nice total vid.👍👌💥
I just got my SOG flash AT, love it. However, i wish the flash can have the flipper tab instead of a safety on the top for easier opening.
Whaaaa!! Wow G, snow already? How crazy
For self defense it's top notch 👍
I agree with you Aaron my knives are utilitarian them maybe self defense
SOG is killing it in their higher end stuff. Their lower end D2 is well designed, just way too expensive for D2.
Great review as always. Too many negatives to justify the price. Better options in the same price range.
@@Matthew_Australia price point, failure on basic cutting tasks a $40 Rat 1 knife would easily excel at.
its one of my fav knife of all time ive put deep carry ti clip on mine changed thumb studs an added lanyard hole
The SOG tactical danger pickle.
I can't wait to get this. I hope they relaunch a few fixed blades too. I'd love to see the seal team get a higher end steel.
Hello from the north of FRANCE, I love this brand, I already have 2, the SOG Kiku XR Blackout, and the SOG Seal XR, 2 magnificent indestructible tactical knives. Do you already have snow?, Which corner are you from ?, I watch all your videos, don't change anything! ..and I ordered the SOG Vision XR, and the SOG Seal FX.... hi.
It's a self defense knife only so yes it's going to not preform some tasks
For me is only for self defense. I already carry a multitool for other types of task. Thank you for the review 🙏
Have had a few SOG in the past and this definitely is a step up. I love the XR lock and the Pentagon XR is now in my Rotation with my Benchmade Presidio ll CF, Benchmade 940-1 Osborne, Tops Scandi Folder and Kershaw 7777 in 20CV. I don’t believe anyone would be disappointed owning a Pentagon XR if you collect knives like myself. SOG has hit a home run with this one just wish it was made in America.
Depends on what you’re gonna be using the knife for. I prefer the Trident AT/XR.
1:52 Dog: He’s out here cutting pool noodles again....
Sure is cool. Nice looking.
A very well made blade S.O.G
I might have missed it but can this not be also opened by way of holding back the lock and flicking it with the wrist, much like benchmade axis lock knives can? *(in addition to using the flipper tab or thumb stud mentioned)
Correct
This is a cool looking blade. It’d be cool if you check out the spyderco shaman which is my favorite pocket knife and see how it compares to your Manix. Keep up the great work!🤘🏻
The first one I got kept jamming shut in the closed position so I arranged with the online vendor for a replacement at no cost to me. The second one arrived and was opened & inspected by the vendor at my request and it has the same condition. Now I can either send it back to get a refund or send it to SOG (at my shipping cost) for warranty work.
I’ve had two examples of this knife with miserable results. I hadn’t bought a SOG in twenty years because their quality really slipped in the late 90’s and I’ll not be buying another in the foreseeable future.
To be fair about it though plenty of folks I know got one of this or their other axis lock models and have had no issues.
Same problem that I had. Until I discovered that I was touching the lock ever so slightly with my hand and keeping it locked closed. Shift your hand lower on the handle and you will be fine.
I love mine used and abused for years still functioning wonderfully
I’d like to see a serrated edge but my humble opinion.
Love the look and design, but not for $175.
exactly .
Cheapo
Great vid🔥
Not sure how much stabbing id be doing with a folder but looks good
Just. Plain. COOL.
Would you classify this knife as dual-edged? I wonder if it would cause trouble with California knife laws.
It might be. Would could take a file to it and dull out the top edge. Not legal advice 👍😉
What Casio is that looks cool
DIG it 💋
Where in the hell can I go here in Denver to put my hands on these SOG'S without having to bust out my passport? Thanks
That is tough, cabellas or sportsman wear house May have some.
I wonder if Pete over at Cedric and Ada has considered transitioning to the Birkenstock edge retention test.
Love the look and basics of the blade however the price point of knives should never peak that far over 100 bucks. Still good looking knife
Great knife!
Sorry to bother you Aaron,
Is there a tactical based folder which runs on washers instead of bearings and is a flipper design.
Just I'm deploying overseas to a very dusty environment.
Any recommendations would be fantastic.
Thankyou
Phil.
Can you do a review on the SOG Terminus XR LTE?
love the knife , hate the price .
Why would somebody thumbs down this video?
Mannn. I really REALLY wish it was spring assist.
magnifique chaîne !!
These are $54 on sale and with 40% off code on SOG's site, 2 years after release. Pretty good price for a XHP blade knife.
Yeah I bought one and didn't care for it. I sent it back. Blade is cool but the action was not good especially when using flipper. Especially for $180...if it was more like $140 maybe.
Who sends Aaron all this stuff to cut?
Thinking about the SOG SEAL XR. Any thoughts?
It's a great knife if you wear gloves.
Does it have glass breaker?
JUST GOT MORE KIKU XR BEARING KITS IN, NOW WITH EVEN HARDER 420C PLUS RACE WASHERS, TOOL AND LUBE. Find it here; www.ebay.com/itm/164915426638
Once these are gone folks, they're gone for good!
All it needs is a glass breaker
You should hook up with Zak and Kurt from blade HQ and do a video with them.
Its Way to Heavy....! No Thanks
@@Matthew_Australia Its a pocket knife. Under 4oz, is pretty much the communities consensus on knife weight. Do your homework before opening your yap.
Too pricy
I've used a sog vision arc aka visionary 3,for years I really liked that blade style and wised they put their new lock on a visionary model in xhp but I always want what they don't make or discontinue
