Karla Bonoff is a great writer, singer, and performer. It's a shame she has never really gotten the recognition she deserves. always behind the scenes.
Seems to me, that being a successful songwriter has gotten her the attention, respect and certainly the monetary rewards she deserves. She’s pretty, and does have a nice voice, but compare her version of “Lose Again” to Linda’s and you can see her excellent songwriting has been her major strength. It’s not an unusual phenomena by any measure. Look up Jimmy Webb, Townes Van Zandt, Hoyt Axton, Dean Dillion…. All excellent songwriters. Just don’t have that extra it that’s completes the package. And so few do. When Linda lost her voice, her musical career was over. Karla can write as long as she’s inclined, whether she can perform or not. It’s definitely suitable for the marathon that is life….
I suppose it was Karlas name on my Linda Ronstadt records that made me buy her album in 77. It’s about worn out now, and she has always had my recognition!
Saw her in person a couple of years ago at Eddies Attic in Atlanta. Front row center, twelve feet away. Amazing. Saw her back in the 70s opening for Jackson Browne and enjoyed her ten times more than Browne
Far and away my favorite Karla Bonoff song. It is kind of ironic that Linda Ronstadt should be doing back ups for her, since Karla wrote some of her greatest hits.
Having been a fan of Karla's since the Restless Nights album , I had the absolute pleasure of seeing her at the Grey Eagle Music Hall in Asheville, NC just recently ...she and Nina Berger were wonderful !!! Karla was very down to earth, funny and just a nice person and guess what ? She hasn't aged a day since Restless Nights ? She looks the same as on the album cover ! She's very pretty and has a killer smile ! Nina was awesome and played the Ukrainian anthem which captured my heart. If you weren't there you missed a great performance ! It was a night to remember !
Someone took the keys and we're back here!...sad to lose someone you love when a dream's power of a dreamer can't help but see into another woman's life..sovereignity in great fear..Yei Yei Yei!..and never will I be here!...Wynonna! as Our; The Queen of Hearts!
Our Computer Searching as The Kingdom of I Am Music!...Did You Write this Absolutely Excellent! WAMU USA!....(I think that she said it "you're family"!)
Really doesn't sound too much different than Wy's version. I always thought hers wouldn't sound too much different if I heard Karla's version. I'm glad I finally heard it, now. Thanks!
@Erik Von Handorf Actually, I had tickets to see this show, and had to miss it due to health issues....I was literally sick about it...I did get to see JD Souther on a prior occasion at City Winery, even got to meet him! He is a class act! Love him!
Danielle, the key word in your post is 'version', How can a version be 'much better' than the original? I have heard Wynonna's cover( for that is what it is), and it is very good. Is an artist of today painting the Sistine Chapel (with all the latest electronic tools he has today), much better than Michelangelo? BTW, where are the Judds today? Karla Bonoff is still performing at 67!
I love her too ❤.
I was 20 years old.I worked in a record store and I fell in love with her sound.I still get so emotional listening to her.
It's so cool that Ronstadt is backing her up, but also sad that Linda can't sing anymore
But one thing she does have is so many memories of touring, private jams, get together's on the patio . Wow what a life that only we could dream of.

Indeed

Agreed
Oh how I love this woman! It is hard to believe I have been listening to her since '77. Linda owes many of her greatest hits to Karla
New Karla Bonoff fan just created.
Foxes and Fossils have a cover of this song that is so good.
This song comes off her 'New World' album; which is still one of my favorite albums ever!
So underrated a singer/songwriter. I love her!!
Totally
Love this … friends singing a great song together. Linda is perfect backup to Karla.
And were it not for Karla's songwriting Linda would not have had nearly as many hits
Her version beats Wynonna's, IMHO> What a songwriter! What a performer!
Yes, I think so too !
Maybe because she ŵrote it ❤
Jesus Christ. She's 71 and still sounds like she's 20. ❤❤❤❤
Saw her in person a couple of years ago at Eddies Attic in Atlanta. Front row center, twelve feet away. Amazing. Saw her back in the 70s opening for Jackson Browne and enjoyed her ten times more than Browne
Can you imagine have LINDA RONSTADT singing back up for you????? MY GOD, it doesn't get any better than that....
Love this, the original version of the song...and Karla is absolutely beautiful...
I do so love Karla Bonoff.
Love me some Linda Ronsradt
Both Karla and Linda belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Both hit well in pop and country! No Linda = no Eagles!
@@WineSippingCowboy No Karla, no Linda. Karla wrote some of Linda's biggest hits

Simply Excellent. BTW liinda r. has a lot of class to be a backing vocal. True musician.

Linda Rhonstadt singing back up! Wow!

The True Singer and Song Writer! ...and way cool Linda!
It's a great song. It's just different voices. Both are wonderful.
Just fav❤❤❤❤
Just saw her last night. Still wonderful.
Unsung songwriter....they don't make 'em like this anymore !!! Young songwriters .....TAKE NOTE !!!!
Karla Bonoff played with J.D. Souther and Kenny Edwards in Pasadena in 2010, shortly before Kenny passed away.
Karla, please come to the UK. It's so unfair that your fans can't see you live !
Oh my gosh she's awesome !!!
this ia great song🙋♂️🎸
love Karla. Would love to see her again.
Dang me, this is a great song.
Is that Linda Ronstadt as her vocals in back?
Karla is kool.
Enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing.
Mark Goldenberg on keyboards, even. He wrote "Justine" and other songs Ronstadt sang, and was Jackson Browne's lead guitarist for years.
excellent! what a doll-- and superlative pop songwriter!
One really super album back in the day. Sweet voice. for sure.
Sweet lady, too.
リンダとの共演、いいですねこういう映像もっと観たいです。
Still beautiful. Miss ya Linda. Need to spend time on figuring how to download as a video.

She is very sweet and gracious
Doesn't get anymore organic than Karla! Supernatural x 10!
Been a while... last seen opening for James Taylor at the Mann in the 80s, I think. What an exceptional artist. Wonder what she's doing these days.
The live version actually sounds better, you can really hear Linda's voice more harmonizing with Karla
Really doesn't sound too much different than Wy's version. I always thought hers wouldn't sound too much different if I heard Karla's version. I'm glad I finally heard it, now. Thanks!
@sorchard100able Linda has sung backup or duet with Karla previously, most notably on "The Water is Wide" (the album studio version).
Yes to Linda. And who is the drummer? Is that Jim Keltner?
Is that a hotdog bun hanging off the lead’s guitar tuners?!?! 🌭 2:20
tune from her last and ending album in 1988
They want to block the Wynona video, due to copyright infringement,
I think this is better than the cover by wynona. Karla wrote it and sings it
Karla Bonoff...one of the best singer/songwriters of days gone by; she should team up with JD Souther for some shows....just sayin'
Karla was one of the best, with a voice just as good as Linda's...
Great suggestion with JD.
I sure miss Glenn.
@Erik Von Handorf Actually, I had tickets to see this show, and had to miss it due to health issues....I was literally sick about it...I did get to see JD Souther on a prior occasion at City Winery, even got to meet him! He is a class act! Love him!
They should have made babies 👶
Question: Who is lead guitar? That guy is really decent
Saw her open for James Taylor in Charlotte in early 80’s!
Wynona Judd got famous covering this song, never as good as the real thing.
Karla with a K, I named my daughter after you...
Guest stars: Linda Ronstadt, backing vocals, Peter Frampton, lead guitar, in studio NOT in video.
The information I have said it was Kenny Edwards and Karen Blake on backing vocals on the album .
Wikipedia agrees with you and also with my reference to Peter Frampton.
Linda Ronstadt is in the video but not in the studio.
reminds me of "back in the chain gang."
Rock and Roll! Black Lives Matter!
I like Both takes. Karla's is softer, Wy's harder and faster..
‘S?
TO DAN IN ALBANY OREGON
Love the song. Ms Bonoff is a great writer, and a good singer... but not a great one.
It's a good change of pace from wynona Judd's but wynona is better
i liked wynonna judds version better.
Me too.
Wynonna sings this song much better. Sure!
This mix sucks
Wynonna's version is much better.
No way.

Don't think so. Have another hit.
No one does it better than Karla...loved Karla for over 40 years...only fitting that Linda sings back up since Karla wrote a number of Linda’s hits
Wynonna must've liked it. Hers is pretty much a carbon copy.
