Edmund is such a huge inspiration to me. Such a cool guy, focused on creating something he can proud of and not worrying about public reaction or approval or money. His content is incredible.
The amount of work it must have taken to have all the items in The Binding of Isaac, synergise, must have been tremendousTo release DLC twice (!) was incredibly ambitious. They've done stuff people at the Game Developers Conference merely talk about,, as long term goals (in terms of connectivity)
Honestly i agree a lot, i love his work and everything he does, but honestly some games he has made in new grounds like the blue baby organ dissecting game was a bit controversial, because its kind of disgusting to dissect a baby… i dont know ive always wondered why he made that game
The UberHaxor Well yeah obviously :P, but i cant play it, im too hyped for rebirth, i spend most of my time just thinking "this is gonna be so much cooler in rebirth" because im an idiot
Inspiring guy. You have to be personal and fearless when creating. Never try to anticipate trends or second guess the audience. He's completely right when he says people want what they don't know that they want. Stay true to your vision, what moves and interests YOU and you will find an audience. Create *for* an audience and you'll very likely fail. It's cynical and very rarely works. And even when it does work all we're left with is facile shit that's worth nothing to anyone.
Yes, exactly. Totally 100% agree with you. Nowadays whenever I hear someone say "We want to appeal to a wider audience" it instantly saddens me because I know that the next project they're making probably isn't going to be nearly as good as previous ones.
***** Christianity became a thing when the Protestant churches came about. I don't know how someone could think that way when Catholism came first but whatever. Idc honestly xD
I played it for 446 hours, I probably still count as a noob XD I actually recommend this game to people because I think it's amazing, and I always say good things about it because it'll never, ever get old. You're doing a really good job, make more DLCs and take mah money!!!
Makin Smith Who were they? I only remember three. John Blow is a man which really cared for his work. people didn't take that very well. If you followed closely on the interviews, you could see he was incredibly embarrassed and depressed at his actions. Phil Phish was Racketeering, was a huge asshole. Edmund, well, you can't be upset about him.
Yes, this is fragment of DVD/BluRay extended edition. Also, this interview only appears for few days after TBoI anniversary so download it if you want to watch it later.
While the game disturbs me. I feel very connected to this guys story. I was and have been ridiculed by my family a ton for liking fantasystuff. I know it's not a sin, but fear makes a lot of people assume its evil.
But Edmund did supervise the project, also nothing made it into the game without his seal of approval, and I'm pretty sure he also created quite a few items himself.
I think it's probably because he's really not very good at interviews, he rambles and says empty phrases like y'know a lot. They wanted a fun movie, this is interesting but very awkward.
Edmund said in a interview with Northernlion that he get's bored easily and so always wants to do something new, because of this working on a game he already made, despite him admitting that the original Issac was disappointing because of the limitations of flash, would cause him to lose interest but because Nicals is doing the major work(coding, art, music) leaving him to be able to just sit back and "direct"/supervise while working on mew genics is the main reason why the new version of Issac can be done. If he had anything more then a superiors role he wouldn't bother as he would lose interest very quickly
I'm Christian but I'm not SUPER Christian, I think Isaac had a part in that since I played it at like age 12 LOL. I'm very happy that edmund has created all of these fun games for us to play :).
He basically said that he does his best work when there is risk involved and whenever he starts to feel too comfortable the quality of his work suffers.
This is really inspiring for me, I can relate with the having money and less pressure is there. I'd let Ed live in my apartment anytime, for free. Just as long as he keeps working on his games. :D Ed
zimbabwe doogie No, Edmund had said that after Meat Boy's success he was pretty much bored. Meat Boy was risky because he had no money, but after it's success he wanted to do something fun, and risky in it's own way. It certainly seems that the fact he made a ton of money off of it was just a cherry on top and that the reaction everyone had to it was the real treasure for him.
Raised a christian, still a christian, my father was a pastor, and the number of pastors in my extended family is only outnumbered by the teachers. Unfortunately most of them outside my immediate family are the nuts gay hating kind. But even among them no one would say play magic the gathering or D&D means you are going to hell. These days d&d is my main passtime. I never understood all that satanic panic nonsense. Being very progressive myself, i tend to see it as there are good people and bad people with or without religion. And the bad people who ascribe to religion use it as a justification for being bad as the bad people who aren't religious find some other excuse. In the same way if you want to be good, you will find the guiding principles needed to make that happen whether that is religion or some other philosophy. Ultimately the good and the bad come from people because people are inherently flawed.
Also as a Christian I'm telling yall if someone says God made them sin they are fucking liers. God does not make us sin or tempt us. But helps us fight temptations and sin
He does Satan's job and he gets rich. I never thought binding of isaac is a cool game anyway. He is not a spiritually mature person to be judging Christians or the Bible. I am a game developer too and I am the opposite of this guy.
Nah, ridiculing Jesus, is safer and makes more money cuz atheists kids want to see the God they dont believe in, made fun off. (?) He, like many atheist kids, seems to think that religion = christianity. If the guy makes a game about Islam, whose horrors far outweigh that of christianity, he will get my respect. But everybody knows he won't...
His talk of the morbid aspects of Catholicism and the bible is very relatable. I have never been religious, although I was baptized Russian Orthodox to appease my grandma on my mom’s said, but I always found interest in the darker aspects of Christianity. I even have a tattoo of self flagellation on my calf that I thought of due to my interest in the state of mind and life conditions you would need to be in to do that to yourself as well as the spiritual beliefs that are used to contextualize it. I also find Catholic iconography and rituals to be much more interesting than most things you see in say most branches of Protestantism.
"A child feeling like he has been born wrong." Edmund McMillan
I really like this.
Edmund is such a huge inspiration to me. Such a cool guy, focused on creating something he can proud of and not worrying about public reaction or approval or money. His content is incredible.
Thats the way to make games, especially if you are indie. Focus on what you want to make and what you want to play.
The amount of work it must have taken to have all the items in The Binding of Isaac, synergise, must have been tremendousTo release DLC twice (!) was incredibly ambitious. They've done stuff people at the Game Developers Conference merely talk about,, as long term goals (in terms of connectivity)

"My grandma used to cast spells all the time, and i thought that was amazing!" Confirmed that Edmunds family are wizards.
You are a wizard edmund

TheYorkshireTom lol exactly the same here
Smash 4 comes out on Oct 3rd. Play that until November. It's what I'll be doing. And then the struggle to play both once Rebirth comes out...

Haha....28 min in...Danielle crawls across the floor in the background.
"They'll never see me..."
I'm Catholic and I personally don't find this game offensive at all. I think it rocks and It's one of my favorite games!
+Lancelot Knight catholics aren't Christians.
+Amat Martinez not at all.
Whatever you say, bro.
+Amat Martinez don't they believe the same jeez? cept Catholics have their own twist to the genre
***** Christianity became a thing when the Protestant churches came about. I don't know how someone could think that way when Catholism came first but whatever. Idc honestly xD
What I love about this guy is that he never took into consideration that people bought it because he made it.
Edmund McMillen making Disney movies hahahaha just the thought of it XD
I’m glad he didn’t sold off the rights to Isaac.
Imagine if E.A had the rights to Isaac. Smh

How different would the indie scene be if he just bought some LEGO’s

Thx so much for putting this out. Loved the movie :)
TVPingu - ¡Variación Retroindie! debería ver esto
So when are you making the film sequel?
I doubt they will, two of the people they filmed turned out to be massive scumbags, two of them involved in racketeering.
Oh....didn't know about that. :/ Shame the film's amazing and I'd love a sequel with some other indies.
Makin Smith Who are they? I'm going to assume the scumbag is Phil Fish, but I tried finding stuff about the racketeering... nothing.
Keenan Ris Edmund is amazing. Jhon Blow is a little odd but cool. Fish was the asshole and idk what the second one was
Makin Smith Who were they? I only remember three. John Blow is a man which really cared for his work. people didn't take that very well. If you followed closely on the interviews, you could see he was incredibly embarrassed and depressed at his actions. Phil Phish was Racketeering, was a huge asshole. Is it weird that I'm Catholic and I found the binding of isaac fun?
Not even a little.
@ Epic, you found it fun(ner) because you understand the themes/plot of the game better than non religious people.
Johnny G Treu that
Nah im also catholic and like tboi :D
Merci Lucas pour les sous titres francais^^
Is it weird that I like this game even more after watching this but when I try and kill Ultra Greed and die 10 times I want to punch my TV in?
Omg thanks you so much for translate It in French
Grizen Oh enfin un français dans les commentaires ^^

This is not in Steam version of special edition? :(
Yeah, we need some explanation. This is really weird.
I just checked their blog, they will update the steam version soon with the twitch commentary and hopefully with this interview aswell :)
so there is the normal edition, a special edition which is on steam and a special special edition which you can only get on their website?
Yes, this is fragment of DVD/BluRay extended edition.
Also, this interview only appears for few days after TBoI anniversary so download it if you want to watch it later.
SpctrProductions Hopefully, cuz paying 60$ meh people will just torrent it
28:08 tho

28:10 Person crawling across the floor in the background.
I think the thematic element I most strongly latched onto was an overarching sense of unfairness.
We love you Ed !!
28:10 wait for iiiiit~
Very talented guy.
It's 2 a.m. and I want to play isaac now...
I DID NOT EXPECT EDMUND TO SOUND LIKE THAT
I WAS FANGIRLING THO LOL
Sad edmund dident take front set on this hope it turns out good.

And now he even paused mewgenics to work on super meat boy forever
You better add this to the special edition on GOG and Steam!

Who's Edmund and who's Tyrone on the 30+ gameplay of Rebirth?
I'm Christian but I'm not SUPER Christian, I think Isaac had a part in that since I played it at like age 12 LOL. I'm very happy that edmund has created all of these fun games for us to play :).
Famous last words.
Could someone explain me the first thing that he says? Can't get it :(
He basically said that he does his best work when there is risk involved and whenever he starts to feel too comfortable the quality of his work suffers.
Is this on the original IGTM: Special Edition Bluray/DVD Disc, or was this just recently added to the digital version?
is this game currently under development for and IOS release as well? im pretty sure i read an article saying it was.
No
im a fan of you games, loved super meat boy, need hard games today i miss that =D
I'm surprized how many catholics there are in the USA.
EDMUND YOU ROCK !!!!!! :DDD
Danielle scared the shit out of me
This is really inspiring for me, I can relate with the having money and less pressure is there.
I'd let Ed live in my apartment anytime, for free. Just as long as he keeps working on his games. :D
Ed
you guys realize that hes made over 15 million dollars off this game right?
Your point is?
that its insane that hes gone from nearly broke, to millionaire in only 6 months
zimbabwe doogie Lol, I wouldn't say broke. He had just finished Super Meat Boy, which was incredibly popular and sold for $14.99.
ya but he even said that he wasnt doing so good because the game was a stab in the dark then all of a sudden, it exploded
zimbabwe doogie No, Edmund had said that after Meat Boy's success he was pretty much bored. Meat Boy was risky because he had no money, but after it's success he wanted to do something fun, and risky in it's own way. It certainly seems that the fact he made a ton of money off of it was just a cherry on top and that the reaction everyone had to it was the real treasure for him.
28:10 Meow.
I Like the Binding of Isaac because I am atheist.
So does he go to church or not??
as2? Why didn't they use as3? o-o
7 years later, florian himsl only knew as2 and this wasnt meant to be a massive project
i don't realy know how this works but did you earn about a few million dollars?
Funny nowadays everything passes on Steam, there's practically no point to it.

160th comment. sorry had to
Let's see him make one about Islam.
I doubt it'd work as well unfortunately )=
I dont agree with the transgender part but other than that the game us unique and interesting
He does Satan's job and he gets rich. I never thought binding of isaac is a cool game anyway. He is not a spiritually mature person to be judging Christians or the Bible. I am a game developer too and I am the opposite of this guy.
