I really like this.
Edmund is such a huge inspiration to me. Such a cool guy, focused on creating something he can proud of and not worrying about public reaction or approval or money. His content is incredible.
Thats the way to make games, especially if you are indie. Focus on what you want to make and what you want to play.
The amount of work it must have taken to have all the items in The Binding of Isaac, synergise, must have been tremendousTo release DLC twice (!) was incredibly ambitious. They've done stuff people at the Game Developers Conference merely talk about,, as long term goals (in terms of connectivity)
Honestly i agree a lot, i love his work and everything he does, but honestly some games he has made in new grounds like the blue baby organ dissecting game was a bit controversial, because its kind of disgusting to dissect a baby… i dont know ive always wondered why he made that game

Inspiring guy. You have to be personal and fearless when creating. Never try to anticipate trends or second guess the audience. He's completely right when he says people want what they don't know that they want. Stay true to your vision, what moves and interests YOU and you will find an audience. Create *for* an audience and you'll very likely fail. It's cynical and very rarely works. And even when it does work all we're left with is facile shit that's worth nothing to anyone.
Yes, exactly. Totally 100% agree with you. Nowadays whenever I hear someone say "We want to appeal to a wider audience" it instantly saddens me because I know that the next project they're making probably isn't going to be nearly as good as previous ones.
But I knew that I wanted The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and the new Super Meat Boy that is coming up... But I get what you mean :)

I'm Catholic and I personally don't find this game offensive at all. I think it rocks and It's one of my favorite games!

Really glad he made BoI and not just because it is an amazing game. The religious stuff needs to be said, and what better way to spread it around than a video game? At least make people look at their religion and see it critically for once. Not just accept it because they were born into it and told to never ask questions.

I played it for 446 hours, I probably still count as a noob XD I actually recommend this game to people because I think it's amazing, and I always say good things about it because it'll never, ever get old. You're doing a really good job, make more DLCs and take mah money!!!

While the game disturbs me. I feel very connected to this guys story. I was and have been ridiculed by my family a ton for liking fantasystuff. I know it's not a sin, but fear makes a lot of people assume its evil.

I didn't much like Meat boy, i know I'm in the minority here but TBoI was the first game on steam I ever bought and even then it was on sale for a £1
I've been playing since christmas of 2011 and I've not stopped playing, I've played through the DLC and now, I've just picked it up on the Vita and I'm doing it all again. Theres just something about it that makes it one of the best games and not just to play but to also watch.

This man is a king. He always will be.
His talk of the morbid aspects of Catholicism and the bible is very relatable. I have never been religious, although I was baptized Russian Orthodox to appease my grandma on my mom’s said, but I always found interest in the darker aspects of Christianity. I even have a tattoo of self flagellation on my calf that I thought of due to my interest in the state of mind and life conditions you would need to be in to do that to yourself as well as the spiritual beliefs that are used to contextualize it. I also find Catholic iconography and rituals to be much more interesting than most things you see in say most branches of Protestantism.

Keenan Ris Edmund is amazing. Jhon Blow is a little odd but cool. Fish was the asshole and idk what the second one was
Makin Smith Who were they? I only remember three. John Blow is a man which really cared for his work. people didn't take that very well. If you followed closely on the interviews, you could see he was incredibly embarrassed and depressed at his actions. Phil Phish was Racketeering, was a huge asshole. Edmund, well, you can't be upset about him.

I think the thematic element I most strongly latched onto was an overarching sense of unfairness.
I'm Christian but I'm not SUPER Christian, I think Isaac had a part in that since I played it at like age 12 LOL. I'm very happy that edmund has created all of these fun games for us to play :).

I'm surprized how many catholics there are in the USA.
Sad edmund dident take front set on this hope it turns out good.
But Edmund did supervise the project, also nothing made it into the game without his seal of approval, and I'm pretty sure he also created quite a few items himself.
I think it's probably because he's really not very good at interviews, he rambles and says empty phrases like y'know a lot. They wanted a fun movie, this is interesting but very awkward.
Edmund said in a interview with Northernlion that he get's bored easily and so always wants to do something new, because of this working on a game he already made, despite him admitting that the original Issac was disappointing because of the limitations of flash, would cause him to lose interest but because Nicals is doing the major work(coding, art, music) leaving him to be able to just sit back and "direct"/supervise while working on mew genics is the main reason why the new version of Issac can be done. If he had anything more then a superiors role he wouldn't bother as he would lose interest very quickly

He basically said that he does his best work when there is risk involved and whenever he starts to feel too comfortable the quality of his work suffers.

Meat Boy was risky because he had no money, but after it's success he wanted to do something fun, and risky in it's own way. It certainly seems that the fact he made a ton of money off of it was just a cherry on top and that the reaction everyone had to it was the real treasure for him.

Raised a christian, still a christian, my father was a pastor, and the number of pastors in my extended family is only outnumbered by the teachers. Unfortunately most of them outside my immediate family are the nuts gay hating kind. But even among them no one would say play magic the gathering or D&D means you are going to hell. These days d&d is my main passtime. I never understood all that satanic panic nonsense. Being very progressive myself, i tend to see it as there are good people and bad people with or without religion. And the bad people who ascribe to religion use it as a justification for being bad as the bad people who aren't religious find some other excuse. In the same way if you want to be good, you will find the guiding principles needed to make that happen whether that is religion or some other philosophy. Ultimately the good and the bad come from people because people are inherently flawed.
