They are quickly becoming my favorite (though polys still do detail better). I do commission pet portraits and they are very wonderful on fur. They blend so easily. Not many skin tones, but I've got Luminance for that. Love the book you are swatching in. Great review. I love to do coloring books to relax and hone my blend and shade skills.

My set of 36 Lightfast arrived this morning. Your swatch video wishes timed perfectly. I can hardly wait until I collect the other 64-pencils. I am in love with violets and greens. They are beautiful pencils. The extra pencils came out around the same time as Caran D'Ache released the portrait set with four more pencils.

The Lightfast don't fit well in the T Gaal
I love my Derwent Lightfast, they are wonderful to colour with and a great complement to Luminance. The greens and purple in the Lightfast is beautiful.

As always, I love love love your videos. Your voice has such a calming effect. I have watched this one twice because I am completely in love with my new splurge of Derwent Lightfast pencils. I'm not an experienced colorist. It is all new to me but these pencils make everything I do seem special. I just ordered my 28 extras. Can't wait!

They do have some colors that are unique. Night shade, purple (which is like the black raspberry in prisma), and all those highlight shades in each color group. Nightshade is absolutely marvelous on so many chestnut and brown fur shades

Each tip made me twitch! You won't ever get more pinks I'm afraid. The reason they are not there already is that the pigments for pink are fugitive and can not be made lightfast. You will have to use pinks from other sets. It's the same with paints, pink fades.
Enjoy your exploration of them. I'm loving this book. It's a great way of getting everything together.

Each time I heard a "snap", my heart would skip a beat. I adore these Lightfast pencils, but can't say as much as I love the Polychromos. Now they are sharing the space in my Derwent canvas bag, because I like to use them together. Can't wait for a colour along (hopefully in JB's WoW?).

I ordered a handful of these open stock back in February and I have received about 8 of them so far, the rest are on backorder at Blick Art here in the states. Blick told me due to Covid and the UK shutting down Derwent is behind on manufacturing, so I am still waiting on about 12 more pencils. I still have Nightshade, Mars Violet, Green Earth etc on the way. I look forward to getting these colors, they are very unique. This helps so much in choosing more colors as the color swatches on Blick's website are not very accurate. I was adding colors to my cart as you were swatching them. My birthday is in June, so I am getting my cart ready! Haha.. I wish I could get the entire set, but open stock will have to do for now. I do love them, and dare I say, I might like them better than the Luminance, which they do remind me of. Thank you for doing this video!

I am very lucky to have the most amazing art shop 5 kms from me and all the pencils are open stock as well as tinned. Maybe I’ll start with a few colours openstock that caught my eye during your swatching🤔

Thank you, Lucy, for sharing your swatching. I’ve been waiting over a month for my 100 box set of Lightfast from dickblick and contemplated canceling when it added ANOTHER month onto my back order wait 😭 but, the price also went up from what I paid so....seeing the colors has convinced me to hold on a bit longer...as painful as it feels.
And hearing the tips snapping was oddly satisfying 😅 I like long points on my pencils so mine will likely snap as well.

Hi Lucy, this video is now 2 years old, have you done a colour match to the polychromes? I'm new to the Derwent pencils, they seem to be very interesting colours a lot or mostly all natural nature colours.

I do botanical art - mostly flowers
which colored pencil set is better for such kind of art?
The derwent lightfast set of 100 or the caran'dache PABLO set of 120?
At first I thought the lightfasts, cause of their creamy buttery consistance, but they are also able to hold their point (I heard) - but then I saw their COLOUR RANGE! And even they are 100 colored pencils , there are so few LIGHT and BRIGHT colours, the most colours are muted and in the darker range...thats also VERY BEAUTIFUL , but is it the RIGHT choise for a botanical and flower artist?
The Pablos -I dont know much about them, only that they are firmer then the lightfasts, near to the polychromos. And there colour range is MUCH brighter.
What DO YOU personally think?

I adore my pablos and they blend and layer creating all the colours you could possibly want. Having said that this is just my opinion good luck choosing xx

Im incredibly sorry to disturb you again, but i have a few open stock, the mars violet and it just seems a bit odd? like clumps? i tried different papers. May i ask, have you experienced that with any of them or on certain papers?

I've asked a couple of people but not got an answer yet. Now I ask you ;) I'm thinking of getting this book but would like to know what kind of paper it has. Does it give a good representation of the color of the swatch?
I find the paper kinda like the Amazon paper maybe it is smooth not toothed but for just a quick swatch it a good book
It's fine for a swatch book, even handles a tiny bit of water to activate the inktense
The book is Amazon print paper but seen as a lot of book are it is really helpful. 💖

Although you've only swatched them and aside from colors differing - do you find them better than FC Polys? I would like to one day get the both sets, but undecided as to which one first.

The 100 set in Australia cost $620.00 almost the same price as the Caran de arche pencils.

@@lucyjustaddscolour-adultco3135 Yes I do and I have just about every pencil, Holbein, Pablo's, Poly's, Albrecht, Lumi's, coloursofts,Prisma's etc. spoiled rotten🤣🤣 but these and my Holbeins are my favorites.
Karen Hull has wonderful colored pencil comparison chart if, like me, you don't have the full set of these. I'm still trying to figure out a reason I need the holbeins (lol). Really, I don't need anymore full sets . 😅

So which Holbein colors do you have. People are doing a lot of swatching reviews on the whole set (and demos) but not really as in depth as this swatching you did for lightfast. Really a good one, I was really able to see the colors. Maybe your next review when you get your full set? ( lol...like the way I just know you'll get them 😊)
