I adore my S2000 and I just bought her last week! I always knew from the first time I saw it as a kid that this car, is truly, truly something extra special. Top Gear even says so! Thank you Honda, you crafted an incredible car!! Uehara Shigeru and team, excellent job \o/
RolanTHUNDER I had a model car of the s2000 and now I'm looking to purchase one. I knew when I was little I would one day have one. just looking for a decent priced, low mileage, unmodified ap1. not the easiest.
I am restoring a 218,000 mile Honda S2000 on my channel! It’s going to cost me almost the same as buying a lower mileage one, but I want to do my part to keep these amazing machines on the road!
The beauty of the S2000. Extremely well made conv. Shrap handling and fits like a glove, once you drive one (track or spirited) its hard to think of anything else. Its like an automotive drug. LOVE IT!
Bought our '06 in '09 with 40,000km. Just sold it with 290,000 trouble free km, for just about what we paid for it. Box stock, but driven hard including several trips to the Tail of The Dragon. If you want one, buy it soon as prices are definitely on the rise. Really miss that car.
S2000 is an amazing driving machine. I used to own a original Volkswagen R32 and loved that car. It was made specifically to be a driver's hot hatch and as much it was a great car, the S2000 is just more fun to drive.
@nightrider2k6 - With 240hp its got power, specially in a car that weighs 2900lbs. Thats a better HP rating an the 3-Series BMW which weighs 3400-3500lbs. Although S2000 have lower torque ratings, a simple supercharger will set it to 220TQ but 350HP. For a car that weighs 2800lbs with 350hp the power-to-weight is better than most Ferrari's, Lambos, and so on
they are pretty lite, have amazing weight distribution and for the longest time they were the highest rated hp per liter naturally aspirated engines in the world...Not to mention they are good for like 700 plus horse power on stock internals....
24yo S2k owner here...this is the first time I've seen this LOL. It's funny cause I've driven so many modern sports & supercars...EX: heavily modded EVOX, 2011 and 2012 GTR, Z06 & carbon, various amg's,...the list goes on. Sure all of them were SICK in their own way BUT I'd hop back in my s2k & think...I love my car. Sure I'd take one of those others but I'm not sure I'd wanna give up my S cause of the way it feels. It is a TRUE drivers car. Nothing is quite like it's steering, engine, gearbox.
2003 with 124k on mine. Still drive it like I stole it. 13 years of ownership and it still puts a smile on my face. 👍😁.... Now, if I could only sort out the rusty rear arches... 😭
I'm pretty happy with my S2000. Ive got an Ap1, It is amazing around the curves even with pretty small tire width compared to other sports cars. After you upgrade the wheel size so you can put wider tires the S2000 grips like nothing I've driven.
Never drove an RX8, but Its phenomenal that it can make 232 hp out of that 1.3 engine. I have seen many Rx8 owners having lot of fun on track days. Many people buy these cars just a daily driver or show off cars, but they have no idea what they are capable of until they bring it to track.
it is great as a daily driver for many other reasons... i use it as a daily driver but also drive it like it was meant to be driven by giving the car a thrashing... but it is very comfortable... i drove it from chicago to flordia non stop... and it was comfortable and didnt wear you down as much as other cars do...apart from the awful gas milage it is a really dam good car... i cant imagine not owning one...and i drove it on the track adn it exceeded my expectations... it was just so crisp and
me too! just picked up my s2k in january of this year. my 2nd car after my bumblebee 01 Celica. The s2k was already lowered, intake'd, and had aftermarket rims when i got it. gonna add a Megan single cutback to cut weight (and move bias a bit forward) and a VIS techno R wing. (mugen ss copycat. it's not rice if its factory)
I had two S2000s, 2.0 then the 2.2lr, and they were brilliant cars. I had an Elise at the same time and while not as agile or quick, it was FAR better made and much more ergonomically laid out. I liked the full convertible top too. When down, you had great visibility when driving around in traffic. The Elise has large blind spots which are dangerous in US urban driving. We ended up getting rid of them and getting a 2004 E55 AMG...a real beast...but I miss the S2000s...They are a steal used!
You're right, the Renesis rotary burns massive fuel. Not only S2000's have issues with the oil lavel, but all the Honda VTEC's have a nozzle, which spits oil into the burning room to protect the engine internals from damage. So if you don't rev a VTEC, it doesn't consume oil. But of course, having a Vtec needs kicking it.
i had no problems controlling it... i mean in many aspects it is like hte s2k... you have to use the gearbox to get the max power output which i believe is part of real driving..high revs for both engines to generate power... both are not drag but track cars... i mean honda s2k and rx8 are i believe the all around cars in their price range... along with sti and evo.. which are different tho..
@Mezzaaaaa in what category? Not in ride comfort, 2 seats compared to 4, the s2000 interior is basically bare, to the 8's premium. The one thing the s2000 wins on, is a straight line drag, considering the car costs more, is a little 2 seater with no roof, and the RX8 is a 4 door 4 seater with heavy heated leather seats, good sound system, etc. yet the RX8 stock to stock, takes the S2k on a lot of tracks. And the S2k is generally a summer toy, whereas the 8 is a far better daily driver.
the s2000 i drove had 55,000 miles on it and was few years old. There weren't any squeaks and rattles. Then again the interior is so simple hardly anything can go wrong innit.
s2000 is purely a sports car...for the money that u pay for..this is one of the best sports cars out there. Too bad they're not making it anymore. This is the most fun car I ever own.
You would think a Japanese car wouldn't win on a British show. Here in the states each truck wins truck of the year. An exception would be Toyota as they market differently. I think this is another reason why a majority respect their reviews. As a owner of a yellow s2000, a little time on the road people end up a great big smile like Jeremy Clarkson on his s2000 solo ride.
very suttle differences between them. The AP1 is a bit more tail happy. Its a little jerkier off the line. The HP and TQ are slightly different (not quite sure what it was) but altogether you get the same performance. It is said that the AP2 has a slightly better performance on the track (according to Touge) but that might have more to do with the 17" wheels (vs. AP1s 16" wheels)
my review on the s2000, suspension is perry awsome, its got a race car feel to it, like how true sports cars should feel, power wise its ok, i mean if we are talking about power to weight ratio is equally to a 350z or mustung gt but racing up hill against those cars, the s2k doesn't stand a chance with its lack of torque, but if you want the power to back up its suspension recommad adding a turbo or supercharger
That really hasn't been the case for awhile. Even my friends C4 carves pretty good. And the C6 is just a beast. And you can't tell me I'm bias, I drive an S2000.
If its an AP1 without the updated Bajo bolts you'll be replacing that motor real quick. Or the retainers cracking and dropping a valve. And hope the crank bearing doesn't seize. F22c ftw
I dont know how well it turns cause it isn't worth my time to try out a corvette, but i know that s2000 stock or tuned can corner fast as shit. How you like your s2000?
Rotaries have 3 faces. Thus the displacement thats advertised needs to be multipled by 3. So in reality it displaces 3.9L which makes sense when you take a look at it's fuel economy.
@IPGAuto The E55 has been special in its own right...it owns the highway that is for sure, but the S2000 was better made believe it or not and more fun to drive...i tested an M6 convertible and it captured the fun of the S2000 and sat 4. Great V10
@karsseboomh22 i didnt clarify so its my fault... yes on a drag strip you are right even 1/100 of a second makes a diffrence and no i have not been to dragstrip... race track yes... dragstrip no... cuz i know my rx8 is not meant for straightline acceleration... and imo the rx8 while is a dissapointment from a performance standpoint compared to rx7 ,, the rx8 is not a failure and has alot of potential depending on the money you invest in it
i meant what's the difference between the two what year was ap2 produced 2005 and up? i thought they were all the same cars/ same engine/ same hp etc..
Still driving my '00 with 189K miles and loving it. Still hear "that's a Honda??" to this day.
