As an Australian, the main thing I know about SEMA is that the car doesn't need to be finished or even work to be there. So you'll be fine!

SEMA is a trade show for industry insiders to network and build relationships with suppliers. It's more about putting names to faces and less about working cars.

Never been to SEMA but all I see on youtube or TV show those cars just look good but they dont perform so he could just send a mocked up car and nobody would say a word.

I really like how the guys put a lot of effort into every piece they have to fabricate regardless of whether the part is going to be exposed or hidden.

Jay Lenno has several pretty amazing videos on such cars, they've been built up into the mid-twenties. Doing a modern version in a Tesla would be a huge engineering challenge, but really fun.

Plastic repair is a very useful skill. For example one technique is to use metal mesh melted into the back surface of a broken plastic piece, can use the same plastic type and a specialized heat gun to melt into cracks before surfacing/finishing the front.
this would probably work with the radiator support but unfortunately most bumpers are some sort of polyurethane which is thermoset which means you cant remelt it
@@faxxzc true, for thermoset plastics your best option is resin/epoxy and composite fabrics(carbon or glass). There's a couple very good plastic repair tutorials on RUclips.

Yup this method works. I used to do car audio and used this to repair plastics. Also works well for fiberglass shaping and fabrication...

In my experience with iPhones, low power mode only helps if you're actively using your phone as well. If you're just low on battery & putting it in your pocket for now, either it doesn't help, or it manages to drain your battery faster.
I still run a first-gen SE though, so perhaps it's just the low power mode being shit on older devices.

S2S are ev modding a C10 square body, the fabrication is god level! They call it the S2SLA, well worth a watch. I’ll definitely take a look at anything that is recommended from this comment thread 👍

Yes! I wished they had done that early on. It's probably too late to tear it apart and still make SEMA, but after SEMA, that's the answer for sure.
Yes he said they are going to ceramic coat it, And he said they designed the muffler with three locks it could be undone very fast and easily watch the old videos and you’ll see for yourself

Surprised you havent wrapped the headers in that .. anti-heat wrap thingy. But then again i have no idea if that would help with the underbonnet heat or not
Definitely wrap the headers makes a huge difference, pia to do but well worth it.
I wrapped a header once and it immediately snapped in half from the heat that was trapped under the wrap. Wrapping headers is not always the way to go.
Ceramic coating the headers is a tried and true hot rodder's trick. The wraps look bad and they also collect oil so they become flammable over time, among other things.
Header wraps definitely lower the heat they produce...

Rich is every Tesla owners hero if they want to admit it or not. From personal experience having worked on a SEMA in the past it really doesn't make a difference if it runs, drives, or even if it's completely finished to be part of the big show. I'm absolutely never disappointed with the content of this channel. Thanks uncle Rich! By the way. I'm sure you've mentioned it but I can't find it again, how much of the original Tesla functionality will remain once the build is complete? There's so much tech packed into the car I'm excited to see how much of its original tech and functions will remain.
you should have 3d printed like an intake for the 2 hoses for the duct instead of having those two hoses behind the vent
I was thinking the same or it wouldn't be that hard to mold something using sheet plastic. Also wrap those headers makes a huge difference, no point in ducting air to them as that wouldn't do anything except when moving and that's not when header heat usually becomes a problem.
They literally have like 14days to finish the car and it doesn't even run lol and your worried about 3d printing stuff

Maybe you could rotate the rack a few degrees to lower the power steer motor. Grind a bit off the mounts?

Rich, just remember the big cooling fans are great when you are stationary but they won’t help when you’re moving. The front double ducts will be your best friend and maybe you should consider cutting some real big holes in that front crash bar at the same time. Wrapping those headers will also save a lot of heat soak if you get stuck in traffic. GREAT build dude! 😊👍

Have one of the haltech outputs toggle the charging port on startup, so it always things you have just unplugged the cable when the engine starts.

I love the little definitions that pop up during the videos LOL
to fix that plastic you can use a soldering iron to melt the plastic back together, then add on some support after. It makes the repair way stronger and I've had good luck doing it. Couple nice videos on youtube on doing plastics repairs like this. You can even reheat other fiber reinforced plastics into the repair to make it stronger.
Looks like you may be buttoning this up in Vagas? Great job to all with this project. It's easy to criticize when you don't have a clue to what is being done. Can't wait to see the first drive. Don't let Rich drive it until after! SEMA, he'll break it. LOL
I especially enjoy watching a bunch of smart guys with a splash of tech nerdiness. Together, they are reverse engineering a masterwork in order to make it better. Next up? Perhaps a rocket ship that can, without a bored out hole in the earth, cruise from the US to Australia on a single tank of petro. ;-)

I have to wonder if you guys can find a way to display fuel levels to the rate of charge display section of the Tesla screen…
Totally doable. Tesla shows the charge level based on the voltage of the battery. The fuel level sensor is basically a potentiometer. If you map the min-max values of the voltages read through the fuel level potentiometer to the min-max levels expected by the Tesla for its own battery, you solved the problem. All you need is a bit of electronic components and a guy with a soldering gun able to make the circuit needed.
@@Maverickoulos I'm pretty sure the battery indicator on a Tesla also looks at amps, and not just voltage. I could be wrong however. Your idea about an Ohms-to-Volts converter is solid.
they might be able to use fake singals to make it happen but that is too risky and would need costum electronics . they already have an extra screen for that so its not gunna happen.

Navigating via Thomas Guide, the holy grail of maps. You also needed a PHD in the Thomas Guide grid system to effectively use the maps.
