The crazy thing is his pulse went to 169. No idea what his mac heart rate is but my theoretical Max is like 183, meaning if I climb to 184 some sort of arrhythmia, infarction, or heart attack is inevitable. And while there is actually a really good gap from 167 to 180, you're well into aerobic workout territory (most likely) at 140. But what makes this crazy to me is that it's basically JUST from adrenaline because he's not moving any part of his body except for his arms to control the handle bars. Everything else is stationary. So he's getting the kind of workout like he just did 200 jumping jacks or somethings for basically sitting motionless on a bike and the RUSH of going down the hill that fast made his heart beat like it was an insane workout.
@@johnwolverton48 bro can't understand basic sports science knowledge, you have a heart rate don't you? (although no idea what arrhythmia and infarction mean)
The record in pro cycling is a little over 130 km/h as shown by the gps data after a race that took place a few years ago. There are vids on youtube showing footage from tour de france in which riders are attaining over 110 kn/h
113 km/hr is my top speed and I was a newbie at the time. It was the aerodynamic limit of my clothing. I had a jacket on. Steep road, Canadian Rockies did all the work!
James L This helmet gives no head/spine protection at all at this speed. Actually, even the best fullface helmet for motocross or downhill wont help that much either you're pretty much fucked if you lose control of your bike at these speeds going down such a slope.
Wow what a record. you definitely need legendary skill to pull it off especially coming downhill without moving a muscle and just sitting still. He must have trained a minimum of 15 years to get this done. just wow.
This is what I’ve been looking for and this is awesome. I love downhill biking but I don’t do as much as I used to because my bike gets speed wobble now. If you haven’t experienced that, you’re blessed.
Thanks for the shoutout. Max was running the Minion SS for this speed record but we also have the fastest XC, enduro, and DH racers winning on our products.
I'm thinking he would go faster if he had a 30 kg weight vest under that suit. Or you could get a big fattie to do it. That would make an awesome race, 20-30 fatties at the top of a hill on mountain bikes. I'd watch that.
F = m * a F = g * m * sin (x) -where x is slope so you get: a = g * sin(x) any extra weight won't and any acceleration. But it will create more drag which will slow him down.
Hey Peter thanks for an intelligent reply to my tongue in cheek comments, but you can't seriously be suggesting that a skinny bony body is more streamlined than that of a chubbster. I mean think Aquatic Mammal, like a Manitee, they're quite streamlined, aren't they. If you could train a Manitee to ride a downhill mountain bike it'd be unstoppable. I'd watch that.
Actually, I was replying to MrR0FL but wrongly assumed youtube would distinguish that in my post since I clicked reply on his comment :) It honestly depends on the environment. I imagine that the fatty would win if it was a very steep and long race, because their aerodynamics wouldn't be massively different (fatties aren't quite as streamlined as manitee's compared to their bony competitors) but because of the added mass, they'd force through the air a lot more. On a short and shallow decline, the bony guy could potentially win as added mass means higher friction with the ground and air resistance being negligible in that case.
Pretty specific record- downhill on gravel with a production mountain bike. If you are going for a record, why not go for fastest downhill speed on a bike? Edit- that record is 223.3kph
might be a world record for the fastest on a mtb, but it is not a speed record on a bike at all ! The world record is owned by a frenchman with a speed of 223 km/h on snow !
