nissan pathfinder coolant leak

  • 2000 nissan pathfinder has a coolant leak in the rear of the engine. It's not from a hose, it's from a gasket for the coolant crossover pipe that goes between the tow heads. Even with mirrors and a bore scope we could not see the actual leak. We could see coolant spraying out but there are many things that block the view to see the actual leak. With the transmission removed we poured water in the radiator and then added pressure to force the water out so you can see the water come out of the gasket.

    Mine has been leaking really lightly for about 3 months now. I just got around to working on my QX4. It’s so much work. Remove intake tube, remove upper plenum with throttle body, remove lower plenum, remove metal hose that is on back bolted to firewall, unplug harness( clips suck) and move to the side, remove fuel rail with injectors, remove lower intake. Getting to the back is tricky but after all that you will have access. Then just replace stuff that is old like hoses, gaskets, pcv valve, valve cover gaskets.

    My 2005 pathfinder has been leaking Coolant. But I could not see from where. I checked everywhere except this Crossover Hose. I would have never found this leak Thanks.

    No need to remove transmission. I just did it on my 2002 Pathfinder with 92,000 miles on it. Remove the top intake and lower intake along with your fuel rail. the top left bolt (driver side must be accessed underneath the truck with several extensions and swivel.

      correction to my post , is the left bottom nut must be removed from under vehicle. there are some extra stuff you will need to remove from top of engine, like harness (push to side) drain radiator, unplug injectors, is time consuming but I got it done.

      Joege Morales, what part/Seal should I order for this fix? I just got the very same leak on my 2002 3.5. Lovely car and would like to keep it rather than spend $2000 at dealership to have this fixed. Any suggestions is appreciated. thanks!

    Thank you so much for this video. This just happened to me on my 09 Pathfinder and I could not see and figure out where I was leaking massive amounts of coolant from. At least I know what I'm up against as far as repair

      I'm having possibly same issue coolant is leaking from around the top of transmission somewhere, when I'm down below it looks like it's seaping from the transmission it's self. I'm wondering if this video is the same problem I have. What did you take off to fix it ? Any video or diagrams for that ?

    what the hell possessed Nissan engineering to add so many unreachable tiny bypass hoses? I mean damn. and everyone of them went out on me back to back. now that I saw this video I now know what's in store for me in those two against the center of the fire wall.

    Did the transmission have to be removed just to find this leak, or were there other reasons to drop the transmission? Thanks for sharing.

      this is a very difficult leak to see because it is on the back of the motor and there are many things in the way. Even with a small mirror we were not able to see the actual leak. We could see that it wasn't one of the hoses. So, while we had the trans off to fix the leak I thought people might want to see what it is back there. It is a common problem with these engines.

    My old Nissan 720 pickup does the same after an engine rebuilt. It looks like it's the gasket between the back of the engine and the transmission. It leaks a small dip of coolant every 30-60 seconds.

    • @WarrenAutomotive

      I don't know how you could get at this without removing the transmission. It's right up against the firewall. Had to use a remote camera just to find the leak.

    is there a video of the process mine is leaking from same area and is the hole hose or a gasket

    • @WarrenAutomotive
      @WarrenAutomotive  2 года назад +1

      It's a gasket. because I can put the vehicle up on a lift it's not to hard to remove the transmission to unbolt this crossover pipe and replace the gaskets. That is also why I can show where the leak is coming from in the video. Trying to find the leak from the top, even with a mirror, was very difficult. You can see from the video how close the back of the engine is to the firewall. With the trans off, I could tilt the engine back a little to get at the bolt pretty easy. Still, it's a hassle...
