This touches a deep nerve in me. My parents called it the Anniversary Waltz and it always makes me think of them, who are long gone and long for a world long gone.
I always listen to this beautiful music with tears in my eyes, remembering my very happy childhood (I was born in 1932 in Bucharest).. We were delighted by this music when with my parents we spent our summer vacations ( the last one in 1939 when World War 2 started) at the beach in Southern Basarabia, called also Buceag, land of the leader Steven the Great (1457-1502), defender of the Christianity against the Ottoman Empire.. That land was stolen by Stalin and now kept by Ukraine, for who "we feel so sorry and blame Russia"I was very happy listening to this great melody in my new country, USA. And btw Timisoara, the place of birth of Iosif Ivanovici, must be also respected as being the place where the so-called Romanian Revolution (1989) begun, unfortunately not achieving its ideals. As far as the brotherhood between Serbia and Romania, I totally agree! My heart was broken during the barbarians bombardments against the Serbians ordered by our President at the end of the last century. A big nonsense I will never understand. Too bad, all these memories relate to the beautiful music. Bravo, we can hear it also in America!
@@MD-qz6gk He was born in Timisoara, but at the time Timisoara was part of the Austrian Empire. However, he did fight in the Romanian army and had reached the rank of officer.
I remember a lovely old movie with Marlene Dietrich, "Dishonored" (1931): an Austrian "femme perdue" becomes a spy, but for her love of of a Russian officer that she should denounce, she is finally sentenced to be shot. All this, with "Waves of the Danube" as a leitmotiv. Thank you, Adam, for this upload!
+Otto Von Bismark I agree with you an before when I showed my cousins they called me gay and I told them"What, you rather like high screeching noises and people saying cust words in rap?" so yeah and only my sister's understand me and like this.
This is not a Viennese waltz, although it sounds like one! Iosif (Joseph) Ivanovici, of Serbian origin, was an officer in the Romanian army and military musical band conductor.
This song was also very popular in the USSR after WWII. It was performed by Leonid Utyosov and his orchestra. In that version the narrator (a soldier) was looking back at the liberation of the Danubian territories and his comrades.
I see this song just like Dragostei Din Tei. Made by talented people living in Romania who were born in neighboring countries. There is no reason that both Romania and Moldova/Serbia cannot be proud of their people's work
He was baptized in a Romanian church in Timișoara as Ioan… (they could have done it in a Serbian one, however his parents didn’t), and lived most of his life in Galați. He was the son of Axinte and Persida Ivanovici…

szeressük egymást, hisz tovaszáll a nyár.
Lenn a kék Dunán várlak babám
Csolnakunk rinva-reng, a lelkünk elmereng, vágy ég szívünkbe benn.
Oly csodás az éj: telis-tele édes álmokkal
Holdfény kísér, ring a csolnakunk a vágyakkal

Lelkünkben ég tiszta-tűzű szenvedély.
