The steak thing isn't a callback to Poltergeist. In the past, they used to use cold or frozen steaks to ice bruises and abrasions. It was said to reduce swelling. This is a common gag in old cartoons and tv shows, even up through the 90s. This isn't unique to Insidious/Poltergeist. You can literally find hundreds of examples of this from Looney Toons to The Nanny.
@@koDaffiThere’s an old wives tale about the iron or something specific to steak and why they believed it helped promote healing, though it was more likely just the frozen block reducing swelling 😹
I really like Insidious, and the bride in black is so creepy. But I felt the second one kind of ruined his character and made him less scary by telling his backstory. Same with Michael Myers in Rob Zombies Halloween. Sometimes it’s scarier not knowing the reasons why.
9:38 This shot is of Dakota Johnson from the 2018 Suspiria remake, not the original ‘77 Argento version. Just pointing it out in case anyone looks for it and has trouble finding it. Both are excellent. Love everything you do CZ and thank you for making great content for us all to enjoy!!
I've been waiting for this. Thank you. You know what I never got? When Josh finally realizes what is happening to Dalton, he sees the photos in his room, but thats a new house they moved into. One of Daltons parents set his room up and had to have hung those photos for him in the order of what was happening. They didn't realize? Anyway, just a thought. I can't wait for your next video 🥰
The metronome isn't a reference to Giallo or actually Italian, those Italian terms are standard in classical music and represent both the tempo (speed) and the character of the piece. For example, allegro is a fast pace starting at roughly 120 bpm, played brightly. Not all metronomes are marked with writing - mine isn't, it just has markings and some numbers - but those are standardised terms used worldwide so they'd be the same no matter where it was made. I think the steak is a pretty big stretch. It used to be an extremely common trope to use a steak or bag of peas to ice bruises that originated before the common household use of ice packs. I think it was meant as a bit of a sight gag considering the comical way it was placed and the fact it was done with a somewhat comedic character. Still a very fun video, I'm not trying to be super critical.
I'm not even a horror fan and I'm STILL a subscriber. Fantastic job with all the breakdowns, so much admiring your obvious passion and knowledge base of the subject. Thank you!
The Shirt is absolutely everything!!! Thank you so very much for covering this! I never even heard of this until I showed up to a movie theater and my boyfriend just picked something. It scared me greatly, which means: I LOVE IT & to be scared by a movie.
10:13 those words are indeed Italian but they are simply used to signify tempo in classical music (the number next to them is bpm) it doesn't necessarily mean metronome itself is Italian made.
The metronome isn’t an Italian product. Those words are just tempo markings, they give musicians a general idea of how slow or fast a piece of music should be performed, if there isn’t a specific tempo marked.
I found your channel from a really old smosh comment from 12 years ago 😂 was surprised to see your still active and thriving ! Big horror fan so you’ve got a new sub 👍🏾 was meant to be lol
The Italian on the metronome are actually music phrases that describe the pace of the music, Largo is very slow, so I doubt it’s an Italian product just a normal music metronome.
To be fair in regards to the Conjuring ghosts having better backstories: the writers had something to work with since there’s a speck of truth deep down behind Ed & Lorraine’s stories. With Insidious they just had to start from scratch
CZ: "But there is another plane of existence, an infinite realm where these details are collected and analyzed by a mysterious entity with a goatee." Me: is it Malthus? I think it's Malthus.

Hypnotized is a method that does work and is use today. I grew up with a girl back in 90s all through high school. We go to the same church until she married a man from Maine and so she moved away. There were new cheap rural homes built in my town. Many of our church goers bought those houses for which many still live there today. Later we all found out that it the land once was occupied by a cemetery. Many things paranormal occurred or nightmare dreams would follow about a little girl dressed in white asking us kids to play with her. The girl I grew up with became friends with her. It gotten to the point where they have to bless their house and a hypnosis had to be enforced on her so she would forget this girl that haunts us kids. To this day, no know speaks of it near her. Some kids at church would be mean and tease her about her ghost friend but she would have no clue what they were saying. My scariest experience was when we all were playing hide and seek in that neighborhood at night, I counted 9 kids, but when we all started to separate to our homes, I saw 10 of us. So it was something that would alway stay in my mind to this day.
Lets go more things you missed and as someone who watches movies who aren't as well known (Also I have never watched a single insidious movie) I don't care for spoilers when it comes to this series it is that good. So thanks Zac
Starline is the name of the famed Celebrity Homes and City Sightseeing tour company in Hollywood. The company was founded in 1935. Given the outfits of the couple in the shot, I'm more inclined to think it's just an ad in the paper for that.
really interesting video. The only feedback I have is the assumption that the metronome is Italian based on words to describe tempo ranges. Adagio, Larghetto, and Largo are lower bpm ranges, indicated by the numbers that follow.
In russian adaptation the movie was called just "The Astral" instead of Insidious, because the word sounded a little out of place and disguiding, but the word astral did good for me to watch all movies!
Hey, cool video, but the Italian terms on the metronome aren't a nod to anything. Italian terms are used near-universally in Western art music to notate tempos, articulation, or stylistic things and you'll see Italian terms everywhere, even on music and tools made outside of Italy.
Anyone else notice that Leigh Wanell literally married a double Saw reference? Corbett, S.A.M.F Jeff and Lynn Denlon's daughter from Chapter 3, and Tuck as in Jill Tuck, Jigsaw's wife
Isn’t the little boy who is hidden and scares Renee just the red faces demon in disguise? Before you see the boy running around the music changes to tiptoe thru the tulips ((writing this before finishing video))
SPOILER ALLERT In one of the films, Specs & Elise are watching something and the door slams and they’re like “wtf?” Lol. Anyway, when they door slammed my first thought was, “lol, game over”
That the metronome had its tempo markings written in Italian does not necessarily indicate that it was an Italian product. Italian words like "larghetto" and "adagio" are pretty much regarded as the universal musical standard.

Even outside of cartoons it's always been said if you get punched to put a cold steak on it to prevent a black eye etc. Crazy
