Those PCC cars were extensively modified to run on the then-new light-rail system and were called the 4000 Series. As I recall they were going to rebuild a bunch of them but the program cost more than anticipated so they only rebuilt 16 of them.

Did not know this existed at the time but then again I was only born in the early 80s and would've been way too young to recall it even if I could

Thanks for the comment. I'm unfamiliar with present-day Pittsburgh; I know that this station is long gone.

It does not appear to be a push-pull operation. Where did they reverse the train?

It was indeed push pull. 4:51 that’s a cab control car on the rear.

They actually had 2 PaTrains running for a while; this one and a set of BuddLiners. I always thought this one was way cooler, and saved up money to ride it once. Good times...

I never saw the Budds; I'll have to look that up. Thanks for the comment.

Budd cars were gone by the early 1980s. Two push pull sets each with an F unit and rebuilt former C&O intercity coaches rail til 1989, then sold to Connecticut.

I used to commute daily in these and the Budd Liners to and from Pittsburgh.

The colors also remind me of IC's City of New Orleans. They were probably trying to make it as colorful as their PCCs.

I was told it was due to low ridership

Of course, it didn't help that there was no good connection to the light rail...

It was politics . Costing the Allegheny county too much money.

They were averaging about 1500 passengers a day until the late 70's. Then the economy of the Pittsburgh area nosedived.
