Horn & Leatherworking - Making a Viking Blowing Horn

- Bought this big ol' horn a while back and finally got around to making something of it. I was originally gonna make very simple and plain leather straps but decided that was a bit too boring, so I did some more decorative work as well.
Thanks for watching!

I actually really like your non weapon builds. Because with those the process is basically the same, but seeing a unique process to build something I never considered to build before is very interesting. Good job on the horn man :)
WOW! No unnecessary noisy background music, no stupid explanation of how to use a hammer... Just the process. This video is not just like all the other "tutorials". This is beautifull!
And now to raid the neighbor's backyard! Glory or Valhalla!
A final view of the reclamation site reveals it to be a Borg Cube.

Why RUclips not recommend this to me.
It's good to see this that someone thinks like me.
Awesome video.
very nice work mate thanks for sharing
This is first time I see your face. You are not so much older then me, I would say, but looks like you are true master
in craftsmanship.
make n create? hi, my name is oliver zimble, I'm the head and CEO of oz design in los angeles california, i just wanna say congrats to making a viking blowing horn, I've been loving viking horns for many many years, so, god slimy, that means my goodness in british, I've learned some british words for 10 years and ah, well close to 10 years and gotten a lot of practice on that, so. fantastic.
Oliver Zimble it’s called English not British
I have a tip for you. I grew up on my grandfather’s cattle ranch and one day I decided to make a powder horn. I was cutting off the scale and crud with a knife as you did, scraping with the edge of the knife. My grandfather, who grew up in the 1880s back woods northern Pennsylvania and hunted squirrels with a muzzle loading rifle (and a cow horn powder horn), saw what I was doing and said, “Let me show you something.” He broke a thick walled glass bottle (Coke I think) and with a sharp edge began to scrape the horn. The glass was much sharper and harder than the blade of my knife and the broken bottle provided more “blades” if I needed them. The job went a lot faster than if I had continued to use the knife. Grandpa had one final tip. He showed me that I could carve a little cartouche shape in the horn and with an altered bit of sharp glass very carefully shave a window in the cartouche so thin that I could easily see the level of the powder I still had in my horn. There was nothing special about the cartouche shape, it merely provided an artistic defined border and a bit of edge thickening and reinforcement for my semitransparent “window” so I didn’t accidentally poke my hunger through it.
THANK YOU! I wanted to see a video of someone making this thing and actually using it for a long time.
That was some pretty awesome leather carving. Nice job.
I was impressed before you even started carving the leather, now you're just showing off :) Amazing work.
As always, that's wonderful! You're an great talented artist! Thank you!
Thank you!
Yeah not surprised the mouthpiece didn't work out. Old French horn and trumpet player and they is all kinds of geometry goin on inside a mouthpiece! When I did one of these I carved the mouthpiece into the horn. Worked like a champ.
As I was typing this you were carving it into the horn!
Ack!!! That tooling method gave me a heart attack!!! I love the result, but I’d have gone a different way.
Amazing work as always! Been a huge fan for a long time!
Thank you, appreciate it!

I can safely say this is not in Saxon runes.
What I translated:
Blæekw mij
Its elder futhark, it says: Blaes mig,
Translated to "Blow me"
@@ParaTrooper996 knew it would be, its cool to see how they are simmilar, if i was more read on them all i would have seen it. thank you for telling me, Freond.
@@sandrojones8068 hahaha nice, I got bored one day and now i can read and write in elder futhark,
its really fun and not that hard. :)
@@ParaTrooper996 I know! I've been trying to learn eald englisç and runes. It is surprisingly not as hard as expected.

Great project, beautiful finishing..... Sounds pretty good too....
Very creative, wonderful leather work, be proud, did good. See ya later. Bye
The ruler tattoo is always a good sign in my book
Awesome video dude, I just forged my 1st folded hawk, learned a lot from your vid, many thanks, I might need a viking horn too now...
Glad to hear it!
wow that was all ASMR
Jesus you seem young. What's up with all of these super talented under-30yo craftsmen on RUclips? Alec Steele, this channel, etc. You all have the sage of men twice your age. Damned impressive!
Jeeze... what can't you do.. Blacksmith, artist, leather worker, historic creator.. and all at an amazing level! Subbed here.
These videos are making me realize just how important factories really are.
Oh hey, this vid was posted on my birthday! I just wanted to tell you that you really inspire me! I've been looking around to see if there is a way that I can learn how to forge and stuff. Thank you so much for your videos!
02:14 I think he always forgets the ruler, if he wants to make something.
And that's the reason he tattooed the arms with a ruler motif🤣😂😅
It's as stupid as his choice of elder futhark, the most ahistorical runeset for the era. Although judging from your comment you're a bit low on the IQ scale yourself so you probably think it's a great idea.
@@bashkillszombies dude do you need help?
@@bashkillszombies You good?
I love your video, got me into making. But as a tip I would suggest burnishing the edges of the leather

Jesus bro. Metal, wood and leather work, you're great in. Very cool!
Fantastic! So young and already shows a great artist. Congratulations...
The leatherwork is really quite beautiful. Interesting and unusual video, not run of the mill. I'm sick of seeing hundreds of the same thing being churned out across RUclips - this was really something different and unique.
Thank you very much! That's what I try to do :)
Thanks for this video. Good job bro!
Love these videos and please dont buy a power hammer i know it would be easier but I like your channel because you keep everything nice and old fashioned and simple
P.S. the only reason I'm saying this is because you Instagram story
P.P.S love your vids keep up the good work
I bought it lol. Don't worry it's not a modern one but an older danish made spring hammer, It'll fit right in with the channel and will mostly be used for production so I can start selling stuff. Will still be forging knives and whatnot with hand hammer.
@@MakeNCreate what will you be selling on?
Fine craftsmanship
That's badass.
I love your tattoo bro! Because sometimes people who see me working an art they say my Arms have a ruler can draw a straight line with the perfect measure!.😉😂✌
I just saw one thing on this video:
The tattoo
Then I need to watch twice to enjoy for all 😅
He’ll never need a ruler again
Beautiful

I love how you put a design on the leather it must have taken forever. Love your vids and do designs if you want not if we want 😁😁
That looks absolutely beautiful great job.
You sir must have been the most talented person out there.
Awsome, "The Horn of Gondor"
The horn of Gondor was White
Excellent work, great video.
What type/Breed of bovine did you get that horn from? It is shorter but yet wider than what I'm used to seeing from the West USA. Beautiful and difficult leatherwork, by the way.
Wow what an awesome project.
Hey great Job! I'm about to make a similar blowing horn. My priority is as clean a sound as possible and I might carve the mouthpiece right into the horn or buy a french horn mouthpiece to insert into the hold. Do you have any suggestions? What would you differently if you were making another? Thanks!
Nice work, and your free hand drawing skills are excellent!
great job
Absolutely Beautiful you are very skilled!!! Please keep them coming!!!
this guy is in 3070 the guy has the most useful tattoo I’ve ever seen
I always forget how young you are. Great work, keep it up.

that's really awesone dude thanks you!
Looks awesome men!
Aaaah I remember the lovelly smell from the White thing inside the horns lol
God damn son!!! You got some serious skills!!! II have an uncle that would probably pay $2,000 for that horn!.., especially if he watched you make it on this video.. obviously the horn wasn't that big of a deal, but your leather working skills and artistic talent are amazing to watch!!
Very nice, it is very satisfying to see it shine up on the buffing wheel. Doesn't it sound a lot better without the straps?
Thank you. I was worried too that this would be the case but it's does not seem to dampen it at all.
Nothing like some viking horn building asmr?
nice work man B)
Lol blow me gave me a chuckle
Awesome horn, I found one knocking around at my work, too small to make anything that would be in any way loud so I think I'll go for a drinking horn 😁
In Israel they are called "Shofar." the sound at 3:52 is perfect.
Awesome job!
Thank you!
Pleas bring back the woodworking side of the Chanel
Beautiful leather work :)
This is amazing, good work
Nice work man. Probably takes practice just like blowing a bugle or trumpet.
Well done! 😉
